| babies first shoes Posted: 6/18/2008 2:33:49 AM | On Lorraine Kelly this morning, someone showed her a pair of shoes meant for a tiny baby girl, they were bright pink with a high heel (although it was a soft one) from a company called Heelarious..http://www.heelarious.com/ it was agreed that this was a terrible product. Do you think that this is a step too far (pardon the pun) in making our little girls look like young women or just a novelty item? | |

i think its disgusting | |

| babies first shoes Posted: 6/18/2008 4:07:46 AM | I didn't see the programme or the shoes. Generally speaking It knocks me sick when I see little girls aged around 7 wearing mini-skirts, boots, jewellery and make -up that are in my opinion meant to be worn by girls in there mid- late teens. I appreciate little girls want to dress up etc... but what I'm talking about is a whole different thing altogether. Children that age group should be left to children and dressed accordingly. The innocence of childhood is being eroded further. God knows what goes through these evil sickos minds when they see a child dressed provocatively. I think Its disgusting and wrong. | |

| babies first shoes Posted: 6/18/2008 4:43:34 AM | My daughter is 6 and has one pair of sandals with a little wedge heel, she adores them but they are most definitely play or occassionally party shoes ... They are not normal footwear .... I cannot even begin to imagine the reasoning behind heeled shoes for babies.... I remember writing a letter to Next when my daughter was new born, I had gone shopping and there on the shelf, in the newborn section, was a T shirt with 'So many boys so little time' emblazoned across the front... I was horrified .... The T shirt was withdrawn so obviously I was not alone in my thinking... Sometimes these people really do screw up .... | |

| babies first shoes Posted: 6/18/2008 5:16:40 AM | i dont mind kids IN THE HOUSE dressing up .. and this includes clip clopping about in mums heels long dresses and a bit of make-up.. as well as boys in dad work clothes/overalls .. or similar... but anything that intentionally sexualises, little girls in particular, is wrong as far as im concerned.... teen clothes should be kept for teens, and not worn by 4-12 yrs old... ive seen dresses tops shoes in scaled down versions of adult styles for children as young as 4yrs..
it has to beg the question why on earth do you want your children to look like mini adults, little girl dresses are far more appropriate ..

I agree, there simply isnt enough heeled shoes for young children at the mo!!! :P.
But seriously, its just a sign of the times, I always wonder what parents are thinking when I see a baby with pierced ears, but hey, each to their own. I can't see it doing any real long term harm, or is that just me?

i think its disgusting I also agreee with this statement...i think the high street stores ought to be banned from selling any kind of clothing/shoes/underwear meant for teenage/young women in a smaller version for wee girls!
I have a 6yr old girl and a 5 yr old girl and they would break their wee legs if they tried to wear such shoes. I simply would not allow them to wear them, and any parent that does allow this, should be ashamed of their lives....is it any wonder why there is so many paedophiles in the world right now.....seeing a little girl dressed up in such clothes/shoes is a dream come true for these b*stards!
Just last week my girls stayed with my friend over night while i was away, and this woman has a 13 year old girl. Next morning when my girls returned, my youngest daughter (5) had a flippin bra on her....a padded bra mind you, not a bikini top a bra with adjusters on it....a bra her daughter got from America, with age 7-8 on the label. I was absoulutely horrified and through it straight in the bin. This is the way our world is headed, but its our responsibility as parents to protect our wee ones from this by refusing to buy this stuff.....they cant buy them on their own!!

| babies first shoes Posted: 6/18/2008 7:12:52 AM | I saw it this morning, and was thinking 'Why do we have to make children more grown up than they are?' Children go through the normal milestone of borrowing 'mums or dads shoes' and pretend play anyway at a young age, but usually it's contained within a house, nursery etc....
I thought the product was tacky and if i had more children, i wouldn't make them wear them. Hell i'm funny about my 9 year old (nearly 10) wearing make up, and wearing short skirts or high heels on her shoes (like her mates). Always telling her to wipe it off her face (although don't mind lip gloss) and wear a longer skirt or leggings before going outside. I don't buy her high heeled shoes.
Think the people with no taste or the celebrities would buy these just to make a fashion statement of 'Yes i got the latest thing'

| babies first shoes Posted: 6/18/2008 7:25:31 AM | I suspect it is for the mums that treat their children as fashion accessories.
Little Chantelle must trot out as a little replica of mum, so they can be more like sisters than mother/daughter. Pierced ears on a pre-pubescent child = Chav tag.

| babies first shoes Posted: 6/18/2008 7:27:53 AM | | i couldnt believe it when i saw it, babys feet are soft and not fully formed, god only knows what damage they will do? our feet are bad enough for wearing this type of shoe, my grandaughter for one wont be getting a pair, | |
|
| babies first shoes Posted: 6/18/2008 8:15:04 AM | I think its going to far,it can ruin a childs feet also they cant walk in them. I remember having fun with my mums shoe's and getting my first real shoe's with a heel when i got older and it was kinda special and part of growing up,if we let babies and infants wear heels then they wont experience it. | |

| babies first shoes Posted: 6/18/2008 2:52:31 PM | It sounds ridiculous - not to mention very bad for the babies feet
there is absolutely no reason for a baby to wear shoes until they are walking. Even badly fitting socks can restrict their little feet and cause problems.
|
| babies first shoes Posted: 6/18/2008 2:57:05 PM | | I absolutely agree. I also agree with msg 4. I recently saw "bras" and THONGS for 4yr olds. What is going on?? | |
|
| babies first shoes Posted: 6/18/2008 6:20:49 PM | | It's just so wrong. We should let our kids be kids. There's plenty of time for them to experience the 'joy' of adulthood, why hurry it along prematurely? | |
|
| babies first shoes Posted: 6/19/2008 3:30:27 AM | great to see so many of you care about kids feet
I coach gymnastics from pre -school to teens, and in the last 15 years have noticed a massive difference in kids development..........and feet !
Too much of anything isnt good, high heels , fine if its a play in mums shoes round the house [but mind any stairs] it can actually strenghten the ankles, legs, arches, ect
proper fitted shoes, again not all the time, they can fit and support feet so well that the muscles ect dont have to work at all, can result in flat feet and weak ankles.
Should never be in shoes before they can walk !!!
Let the feet have as much time BARE to develope normally

Absolutely a novelty item.
Not particularly funny really in the way adult clothes for prepubescent children is perceived.
But it just reminds me of a similar situation. I was waiting somewhere with my son, flicking thru a magazine, saw a picture of a baby (3-6 months) in a wheel chair. I laughed out loud (lol!!!!), he said whats that? I told him, there's a pic of a baby in a wheelchair. Yick, he said, you're laughing at a disabled baby? Thats sick mum..!!! No, sonna, babies dont sit in wheelchairs, they dont usually walk til they're 12 months old and usually have a pram or pushchair. Similar here? The baby cannot use the heels....!
To me it's just taking the piss out of the parents who will buy this stuff regardless.....

| babies first shoes Posted: 6/21/2008 4:01:36 PM | The bones in a baby's feet are so soft, they shouldn't wear any shoes at all till they have been walking for a while. Loose socks and padders till then :-) | |
