I just watch this documentary on Front Line. One of the people who was profiled, a rap artists met a girl on line, chatted away; she wanted to come and see him, he sent her money and she didn't show up. He appeared in the film throughout humiliated because he was scammed. Well, what the heck. The con job is a real world wide situation! My Little China Doll! It was an excellent documentary. Please watch. PBS/Frontline.

Thank you for posting this topic, Enigma! I saw it, too. Frontline has got to be one of the top programs ever produced on American television! Yes, everybody can watch the program online here: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/youngchina/ We have lived over the past eight years in a country whose people and leaders had little understanding of other cultures in this wide world, to our great detriment. We should realize that Americans MUST make the effort to learn about the experiences and perspectives of others. We should also realize how our own culture has been exported throughout the globe and what effects have occurred. Another thread here asks our "opinion" on globalization. We first must understand that it is an inevitable force. We can either try to understand it, engage and adapt, or bury our heads in the sand or build fences and walls as the rest of the world evolves around us.

Thank you Wherefore . . . . Yes, PBS, NPR are in my will. No shock here. Knowledge is a lifelong experience; learning about other cultures is important--always; look how much of the western culture they have adopted from the film! The horror of the documentary was the polution problem with the river!

Wanted to resurrect this thread to note another really great documentary about China--"China from the Inside"--will be rebroadcast, at least here in Pittsburgh. Don't know about other station markets. (?) I saw this last year and found it to be wonderfully informative. I'll be sitting on the couch for the rebroadcast here in Pittsburgh, starting this Thursday at 10 pm. There are four episodes in the series. You can go to the PBS national site here: http://www.pbs.org/kqed/chinainside/ You'd have to check your local affiliate station's schedule to see if you'll receive it and if the time slot is the same. With the Beijing Olympics around the corner I suspect there will be rebroadcasts nationwide. Well worth the time, this program!
