| Songs that strike a personal chord.... Posted: 6/21/2008 7:57:24 AM | John Fogerty's recent "Deja Vu (all over again)"....strikes a chord for me as it spans like 40 years....John was in the US army, played at Woodstock and of course was a key member of Creedence Clearwater Revival.... I remember the B&W daily US newscasts and reports from Viet Nam...the song speaks about how Iraq is the same story all over again....
Deja Vu (all over again)
Did you hear 'em talkin' 'bout it on the radio Did you try to read the writing on the wall Did that voice inside you say I've heard it all before It's like Deja Vu all over again
Day by day I hear the voices rising Started with a whisper like it did before Day by day we count the dead and dying Ship the bodies home while the networks all keep score
Did you hear 'em talkin' 'bout it on the radio Could your eyes believe the writing on the wall Did that voice inside you say I've heard it all before It's like Deja Vu all over again
One by one I see the old ghosts rising Stumblin' 'cross Big Muddy Where the light gets dim Day after day another Momma's crying She's lost her precious child To a war that has no end
Did you hear 'em talkin' 'bout it on the radio Did you stop to read the writing at The Wall Did that voice inside you say I've seen this all before It's like Deja Vu all over again It's like Deja Vu all over again

| Songs that strike a personal chord.... Posted: 6/21/2008 1:54:14 PM | Very moving song, thanks for posting it. It looks like we can not post a You Tube link around here. (?) Here is my contribution - a song by John Mann "When I played around with knives" Played a game in my younger life, a lot like twister but with a knife Threw the point into the ground to bend my brother's body round No one bled and if they did, didn't cry
Don't recall a watchful eye But I think we led safer lives when we played around with knives
Left the house for hours on end, home to eat then out again Raced around the monkey trails with my back step breaks that never failed
I road through the woods alone, out of sight and far from home But I think I got the richer life on my rusted no speed bike
Patience broke and I was pulled from my room I took it on the ass with the same wooden spoon That beat the cookie dough
No kid ever disappeared and if they did we'd never hear The sordid details of their deaths never landed on my doorstep I was taught to be polite, how to eat and sit upright But I was left alone to fight and figure out if that felt right I think we got the richer lives when we played around with knives I think we led safer lives when we played around with knives

| Songs that strike a personal chord.... Posted: 6/21/2008 2:12:59 PM | My Sad Song....the one I played over and over... cried everytime....
I have run out of tears now...took me a while. I still think of him...but I had to let go.
Norah Jone's - Don't Know Why.
I waited 'til I saw the sun I don't know why I didn't come I left you by the house of fun I don't know why I didn't come I don't know why I didn't come
When I saw the break of day I wished that I could fly away Instead of kneeling in the sand Catching teardrops in my hand
My heart is drenched in wine But you'll be on my mind Forever
Out across the endless sea I would die in ecstasy But I'll be a bag of bones Driving down the road along
My heart is drenched in wine But you'll be on my mind Forever
Something has to make you run I don't know why I didn't come I feel as empty as a drum I don't know why I didn't come I don't know why I didn't come I don't know why I didn't come

I was Only Joking - Rod Stewart
Ever since I was a kid at school I messed around with all the rules Apologised then realised Im not different after all
Me and the boys thought we had it sussed Valentinos all of us My dad said we looked ridiculous But boy we broke some hearts In and out of jobs, running free Waging war with society Dumb blank faces stare back at me But nothing ever changed
Promises made in the heat of the night Creeping home before it got too light I wasted all that precious time And blamed it on the wine
I was only joking my dear Looking for a way to hide my fear What kind of fool was i I could never win
Never found a compromise Collected lovers like butterflies Illusions of that grand first prize Are slowly wearing thin Oh ladies you were good to me Giving love unselfishly But you took it all too seriously I guess it had to end
Now you ask me if Im sincere Thats the question that I always fear Verse seven is never clear But Ill tell you what you want to hear I try to give you all you want But giving love is not my strongest point If thats the case its pointless going on Id rather be alone cause what Im doing must be wrong Pouring my heart out in a song Owning up for prosperity For the whole damn world to see
Quietly now while I turn a page Act one is over without costume change The principal would like to leave the stage The crowd dont understand

One of my all time favs, which always brings me back to a family picnic when I was a kid, is Sweet Caroline, by Neil Diamond. Awesome childhood memories come back, taking me to a wonderful time in my life. And recently, with Neil Diamond coming in September, they are playing lots of his songs on radio. Mmmmm. Wish we had tickets.

| Songs that strike a personal chord.... Posted: 7/3/2008 4:56:51 AM | There are times I can relate to Hoyt Axton's song "Boney Fingers"
See the rain comin' down and the roof won't hold 'er Lost my job and I feel a little older Car won't run and our love's grown colder But maybe things'll get a little better, in the mornin' Maybe things'll get a little better.
Oh! the clothes need washin' and the fire won't start Kids all cryin' and you're breakin' my heart Whole darn place is fallin' apart Maybe things'll get a little better, in the mornin' Maybe things'll get a little better.
Refrain: Work your fingers to the bone - whadda ya get? ( Whoo-whoo ) Boney Fingers - Boney Fing-gers.
Yea! I've been broke as long as I remember Get a little money and I gotta run and spend 'er When I try to save it, pretty woman come and take it Sayin' maybe things'll get a little better, in the mornin' Maybe things'll get a little better.
Refrain:
Yea! the grass won't grow and the sun's too hot The whole darn world is goin' to pot Might as well like it 'cause you're all that I've got But, maybe things'll get a little better, in the mornin' Maybe things'll get a little better.
Refrain: --------------

| Songs that strike a personal chord.... Posted: 7/3/2008 10:11:42 AM | This song used to always get to me as a kid when the friend of the family would bring the guitar over at the camp and while everyone was drinking.
Too Old to Die Young-Moe Bandy http://sharebee.com/8dac6a23
If life is like a candle bright death must be the wind You can close your window tight and it still comes flowing in So I will climb the highest hill and watch the rising sun And I pray that I don’t feel the chill till I’m too old to die young
CHORUS Let me watch my children grow to see what they become Oh Lord don’t let that cold wind blow till I’m too old to die young
Now I have had some dear sweet friends I thought would never die Now the only thing that’s left of them is the teardrops in my eyes If I could have one wish today and know it would be done Well I would say everyone could stay till they’re too old to die young
REPEAT CHORUS TWICE | |

| Songs that strike a personal chord.... Posted: 7/19/2008 11:23:25 PM | I tried to think of something completely badass, but nothing moved me as much as this one did, so.... Sappy romance, it is.
Sappy romance a la Jeff Buckley...good, good, magical stuff.
My favorite bit: It's never over, my kingdom for a kiss upon her shoulder It's never over, all my riches for her smiles when i slept so soft against her It's never over, all my blood for the sweetness of her laughter It's never over, she's the tear that hangs inside my soul forever
"Lover, You Should've Come Over"
Looking out the door i see the rain fall upon the funeral mourners Parading in a wake of sad relations as their shoes fill up with water And maybe i'm too young to keep good love from going wrong But tonight you're on my mind so you never know
When i'm broken down and hungry for your love with no way to feed it Where are you tonight, child you know how much i need it Too young to hold on and too old to just break free and run
Sometimes a man gets carried away, when he feels like he should be having his fun And much too blind to see the damage he's done Sometimes a man must awake to find that really, he has no-one
So i'll wait for you... and i'll burn Will I ever see your sweet return Oh will I ever learn
Oh lover, you should've come over 'Cause it's not too late
Lonely is the room, the bed is made, the open window lets the rain in Burning in the corner is the only one who dreams he had you with him My body turns and yearns for a sleep that will never come
It's never over, my kingdom for a kiss upon her shoulder It's never over, all my riches for her smiles when i slept so soft against her It's never over, all my blood for the sweetness of her laughter It's never over, she's the tear that hangs inside my soul forever
Well maybe i'm just too young To keep good love from going wrong
Oh... lover, you should've come over 'Cause it's not too late
Well I feel too young to hold on And i'm much too old to break free and run Too deaf, dumb, and blind to see the damage i've done Sweet lover, you should've come over Oh, love well i'm waiting for you
Lover, you should've come over 'Cause it's not too late To keep good love from going wrong
Oh... lover, you should've come over 'Cause it's not too late
Well I feel too young to hold on And i'm much too old to break free and run Too deaf, dumb, and blind to see the damage i've done Sweet lover, you should've come over Oh, love well i'm waiting for you
Lover, you should've come over 'Cause it's not too late

You belong among the wildflowers You belong in a boat out at sea Sail away, kill off the hours You belong somewhere you feel free
Run away, find you a lover Go away somewhere all bright and new I have seen no other Who compares with you
You belong among the wildflowers You belong in a boat out at sea You belong with your love on your arm You belong somewhere you feel free
Run away, go find a lover Run away, let your heart be your guide You deserve the deepest of cover You belong in that home by and by
You belong among the wildflowers You belong somewhere close to me Far away from your trouble and worry You belong somewhere you feel free You belong somewhere you feel free

| Songs that strike a personal chord.... Posted: 7/20/2008 12:26:12 AM | November Rain by Guns N' Roses
When I look into your eyes I can see a love restrained But darlin' when I hold you Don't you know I feel the same
'Cause nothin' lasts forever And we both know hearts can change And it's hard to hold a candle In the cold November rain
We've been through this such a long long time Just tryin' to kill the pain
But lovers always come and lovers always go An no one's really sure who's lettin' go today Walking away
If we could take the time to lay it on the line I could rest my head Just knowin' that you were mine All mine So if you want to love me then darlin' don't refrain Or I'll just end up walkin' In the cold November rain
Do you need some time...on your own Do you need some time...all alone Everybody needs some time... on their own Don't you know you need some time...all alone
I know it's hard to keep an open heart When even friends seem out to harm you But if you could heal a broken heart Wouldn't time be out to charm you
Sometimes I need some time...on my own Sometimes I need some time...all alone Everybody needs some time... on their own Don't you know you need some time...all alone
And when your fears subside And shadows still remain I know that you can love me When there's no one left to blame So never mind the darkness We still can find a way 'Cause nothin' lasts forever Even cold November rain
Don't ya think that you need somebody Don't ya think that you need someone Everybody needs somebody You're not the only one You're not the only one

I been sittin' here staring at the clock on the wall and i been layin here praying praying she won't call it's just another call from home and you'll get it and be gone and i'll be crying and i'll be beggin you baby beg you not to leave but i'll be left here waiting with my heart on my sleeve oh for the next time we'll be here seems like a million years and i think i'm dying
what do i have to do to make you see she can't love you like me
why dont you stay im down on my knees im so tired of being lonely don't i give you what you need when she calls you will go there is one thing you should know we dont have to live this way baby why dont you stay
you keep telling me baby there will come a time when you will leave her arms and forever be in mine but i don't think that's the truth and i don't like being used and i'm tired of waiting it's too much pain to have to bear to love a man you have to share
why dont you stay im down on my knees im so tired of being lonely don't i give you what you need when she calls you will go there is one thing you should know we dont have to live this way baby why dont you stay
i can't take it any longer but my will is getting stronger and i think i know just what i have to do i can't waste another minute after all that i've put in it i've given you my best why does she get the best of you so the next time you find you wanna leave her bed for mine
why dont you stay im up off my knees im so tired of being lonely you cant give me what i need when she begs you not to go there is one thing you should know i dont have to live this way baby why dont you stay

Angry Anymore ~ Ani Difranco
growing up it was just me and my mom against the world and all my sympathies were with her when i was a little girl but now i've seen both my parents play out the hands they were dealt and as each year goes by i know more about how my father must have felt
i just want you to understand that i know what all the fighting was for and i just want you to understand that i'm not angry anymore i'm not angry anymore
she taught me how to wage a cold war with quiet charm but i just want to walk through my life unarmed to accept and just get by like my father learned to do but without all the acceptance and getting by that got my father through
night falls like people into love we generate our own light to compensate for the lack of light from above every time we fight a cold wind blows our way
but we learn like the trees how to bend how to sway and say
i, i think i understand what all this fighting is for and baby, i just want you to understand that i'm not angry anymore no, i'm not angry anymore

| Songs that strike a personal chord.... Posted: 7/20/2008 9:22:02 AM | Artist: Sting Song: Fragile
If blood will flow when fresh and steel are one Drying in the colour of the evening sun Tomorrow's rain will wash the stains away But something in our minds will always stay Perhaps this final act was meant To clinch a lifetime's argument That nothing comes from violence and nothing ever could For all those born beneath an angry star Lest we forget how fragile we are
On and on the rain will fall Like tears from a star like tears from a star On and on the rain will say How fragile we are how fragile we are
On and on the rain will fall Like tears from a star like tears from a star On and on the rain will say How fragile we are how fragile we are How fragile we are how fragile we are
I like lines 8 and 9. Line 9 expands on "Lest we forget," which we here a lot around November 11th. The lines are worth repeating: "For all those born beneath an angry star Lest we forget how fragile we are"

| Songs that strike a personal chord.... Posted: 11/2/2008 11:03:01 AM | Even at my age I can relate to this song, more than I want to:
I hung up the phone tonight Something happened for the first time deep inside It was a rush, what a rush
'Cause the possibility That you would ever feel the same way about me It's just too much, just too much
Why do I keep running from the truth? All I ever think about is you You got me hypnotized, so mesmerized And I've just got to know
Do you ever think when you're all alone All that we can be, where this thing can go? Am I crazy or falling in love? Is it real or just another crush?
Do you catch a breath when I look at you? Are you holding back like the way I do? 'Cause I'm trying and trying to walk away But I know this crush ain't goin' away-ay-ay-ay-ayy Goin' away-ay-ay-ay-ayy
Has it ever crossed your mind When we're hanging, spending time girl, are we just friends? Is there more, is there more?
See it's a chance we've gotta take 'Cause I believe that we can make this into something that will last Last forever, forever
'Cause I'm trying and trying to walk away But I know this crush ain't goin' away-ay-ay-ay-ayy This crush ain't goin' away-ay-ay-ay-ayy Goin' away-ay-ay-ay-ayy Goin' away-ay-ay-ay-ayy Goin' away-ay-ay-ay-ayy at my age I can relate.....

I'm giving up I know for sure I don't wanna be the reason for your love no more (Bye, bye) I'm checkin' out, I'm signin' off I don't want to be the loser and I've had enough
I don't wanna be your fool In this game for two So I'm leaving you behind Bye, bye, bye I don't wanna make it tough But I've had enough and it ain't no lie, bye-bye
(Bye)I don't want to be a fool for you Just another player in your game for two You may hate me but it ain't no lie Bye, bye, bye (Bye)I don't really want to make it tough I just wanna tell you that I had enough Might sound crazy but it ain't no lie Bye, bye, bye

| Songs that strike a personal chord.... Posted: 11/2/2008 9:03:24 PM | I now it's sappy but when I think about a certain person this song comes to mind .
Heart What about love ?
I've been lonely I've been waiting for you I'm pretending and that's all i can do The love i'm sending Ain't making it through to your heart You've been hiding, never letting it show Always trying to keep it under control You got it down and you're well On the way to the top But there's something that you forgot
What about love Don't you want someone to care about you What about love Don't let it slip away What about love I only want to share it with you You might need it someday
I can't tell you what you're feeling inside I can't sell you what you don't want to buy Something's missing and you got to Look back on your life You know something here just ain't right

| Songs that strike a personal chord.... Posted: 11/3/2008 7:27:14 AM | there's a few amazing grace; played at both parents and grandmother's funeral jeff healy's while my guitar gently weeps; i was literally listening to it a when my dad tells me my mom has taken her last breath on her bed
and finally ..
If i can't make you love me - Bonnie Raitt Turn down the lights, turn down the bed Turn down these voices inside my head Lay down with me, tell me no lies Just hold me close, dont patronize - dont patronize me
cause I cant make you love me if you dont You cant make your heart feel something it wont Here in the dark, in these lonely hours I will lay down my heart and Ill feel the power But you wont, no you wont cause I cant make you love me, if you dont
Ill close my eyes, then I wont see The love you dont feel when youre holding me Morning will come and Ill do whats right Just give me till then to give up this fight And I will give up this fight
cause I cant make you love me if you dont You cant make your heart feel something it wont Here in the dark, in these lonely hours I will lay down my heart and Ill feel the power But you wont, no you wont cause I cant make you love me, if you dont

| Songs that strike a personal chord.... Posted: 10/1/2009 1:42:41 PM | B.B. KIng "When Love Came to Town"
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
I was a sailor, I was lost in sea I was under the waves, before love rescued me I was a fighter I could turn on threat Now I stand accused of things I've said
Love comes to town, I'm gonna jump that train When love comes to town, I'm gonna catch that flame Maybe I was wrong to ever let you down, But I did what I did before love came to town
Used to make love under the red sunset, I was making promises I that were soon to forget She was pale as the lace of her wedding gown, But I left her standing before love came to town
Ran into a juke joint when I heard a guitar scream, The notes were turning blue as days as a little dream As the music played I saw my life turn around, That was the day before love came to town
Love comes to town, I'm gonna jump that train When love comes to town, I'm gonna catch that flame Maybe I was wrong to ever let you down, But I did what I did before love came to town
I was there when they crucified my Lord I held the scabbard when the soldier drew his sword I threw the dice as they pierced his side, But I've seen love conquer the great divide
Yeah, Yeah, Yeah

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M82t3K7VDPI
In the silence of the side street In the whisper of the night From the darkness of the empty hours To the early morning light From the hustle down on main street With all it's lights so bright To the trucker on the highway Pressing through the night
I can hear you heartbeat I can hear you heartbeat Girl, the sound of you is so sweet To me
And i'm sailing on your wind song Oh, i can feel the summer breeze You've got me walking on my tiptoes You've got me standing on my knees From the mills way down in pittsburgh To the clubs of gay paris Ah, no matter where i roam, girl, You can always get to me
I can hear you heartbeat I can hear you heartbeat Girl, the sound of you is so sweet To me
We got freezing coca-cola We got anything you want I moving on that back beat Girl, but it's you that sings the song
'cos i can hear you heartbeat I can hear you heartbeat The sound of you is so sweet To me
Oh i still hear your heartbeat Yea i still hear your heartbeat Girl, the sound of you is so sweet, To me
