My sister wanted names that no one else had....she certainly achieved that

My Niece was named after an Australian band called Midnight blue, she's called Midnite Electra...........

My Nephew was named after a level in Tomb Raider the playstation game, he's called Karnak Malachai.........

They don't seem bothered by their unsual names and after all this time I really don't think about it , until I have to start shouting for one of them

I can't really remember what made us choose the names for our 3 girls - we just liked them at the time I guess.

My daughter's name translates from japanese as "energy"
I called my son the name i did because it went so well with the already "picked" middle names. my father-in-law passed away when i was 5 months pregnant with him, and he would have been his first grandson, so my son inherited both his grandfather's first and middle name.

My son was called Daniel coz his Grandad died a few days before he was born, and My ex hubby was the apple of his eye..

My daughter however was gonna be Tara Louise all the way through if she was a girl.. but when i went into Labour I was up all night as i didnt wanna go into Hosp too quick and be sent home again... I was watching "Eggs and baker" in the early hours of the morning and was watching Cheryl Baker and thought that was a nice name, So i woke my then Hubby and told him i wanted Cheryl, We had an argument all the way to the Hospital aboutit, but hey... I got my way!!

Gimme me classic and normal any day...I always think that people can be cruel and I would hate for my kid to have a name which people took the pee out of (and I hear it a lot at my kids school, from both kids and other parents)...my Mum is called Thirza and tells people she has had a life of misery...mis-spelling, people sayin "what?" and being called Thursday. She's fab tho!!!!!! I called my son the names she was going to call me if I would have been a boy, after both my grandfathers: James William.

When I registered my son, the registrar said "thank god...a nice, solid, normal name" and explained the last people had named their child after a female american rap star, and she couldn't pronoun it again...but whatever floats your boat I suppose.

I would rather be remembered or singled out for something other than my name, but thats just my opinion

Simple his first name means gift or precious one, and that is exactly what he was it was a long hard road to get him

His first two middle names are his Grandfathers names.

His last middle name means "family no one forgotten and no one left behind" It would have been his first name but it would be cruel to give a boy the first name of Ohana, in most people's opinion.

He should, however, count himself lucky as in a drugged induced haze after he was born I insisted to the midwifes that his name was Merry Sunshine, thank god they let you come down off the drugs before you register them...

Well I chose my sons name because of its meaning. . . . . I had a bad car accident and was told I would never have a child normally or by ivf.

So when i was given the happy news i was in the family way I knew what the name was to be Azariah-Mae as it was undoubtly going to be a Girl nothing less!

I was to discover at the 20 week scan that it was one of the Male variety OMG what a blow ! so I spent a whole tear filled weekend trying to understand why i was to have one of thoes irritating never to do as he was told little guys!

I finally excepted that he was ment to be and decided to choose the name Morgan-Tyler as its meaning is '' To be born '' and that was the way fate had made it! Xxxxx

trouble is.. you choose a name... 16 years ago Jordan.. was unusal... now common... I am not into the typical jane and john names... my son was rare... now common... my daughter.. Amber... never heard of it.. My ex husband suggested it and I fell in love with it... a week after she was born.. we had a party for her birth... the land lady was Amber... I was devastated.... but some names are cruel... you have to think of their future....

edit.. also being welsh.. my dad's name is david... the welsh version is Dafydd or Dia... Dia seems a bit gay... so called him ~Dafydd as a middle name... now thanks to little britian my son is ashamed of his name..... to funny...

Spotted on Jersey a year or two ago... a young mum shouting at her kid called "Cosworth" ffs.
Could have been worse I suppose, the dad could have been an RS2000 fan instead...

Some children are just born to be called certain names..typical, unusual, macho, feminine, whichever name that gets chosen by the parents is, I would assume, mostly hopeful with an element of wish fulfillment in the naming of our precious ones...they can be influenced by precious memories shared by mother and father. One of my sisters named her son after a place herself and her husband set up home together in. Me..I've always loved what I deem to be very strong masculine names and imagined I would call my sons names like - Rory, Ian, Neil, Niall..good celtic hero names...Brian as well but they got robbed by the rest of the family. I wanted to call my daughter Saoirse or Sorcha but a different name called out to me when I saw her first and now that is who she is.

But it is very trendy for people of my generation in Ireland to call their children by Irish names - it was important to me to do that because I really want my children to be proud of their heritage, the world is a big place and I expect they will travel far and wide and I don't want them to forget their origins.

Many a true word and all that... my ex was adamant that our first girl would be called Sapphire to commemorate a little nortyness in said car. He didn't get his way, I may add.

My eldest has a typical Rocker's daughter name - "Kayleigh"... he chose it. I wanted "Scarlet"

Then there's the traditional "Olivia" and "Emily".... we mutually agreed on those names.

And my youngest daughter is called "Aeryn", after the Farscape character, Aeryn Sun. I didn't choose that, she was called "Dave" for 5 weeks til we decided on a name for her... I was later told, after he'd upped and gone, that his then mistress/now wife had chosen her name.
Which was nice of him.
I wanted to call her Ilse or Eva.

I think some of these names are bordering on child abuse!!

My sister has a nice, normal name...but her initials spell H.A.G...unfortunately I'm an E.G.G. and my brother is a P.I.G.

Why don't parents think about this stuff before they saddle their kids with a lifetime of problems??

Ok my first born was named after a pop star i fancied at the time.....his middle name was the name of an actor - Jordan Kyle
My second child i just loved the name Bradley - his middle was Rhys - didn't want it spelt the original way (Reece). Just named him that because i liked that (my x wasn't around at the time as split from him). Although i did think about calling him Jack Daniel - as this was my dads favourite tipple lol
My daughter is named Holly as it was the only name me and my partner at the time could agree on - even though she was born in January people think because of her name it was because of christmas, which it wasn't. Her middle name is Marie after my ex's cousin. Her initials are H.M.S. Oh boy when she gets older she might get some stick for that though!

If i have another child and it's a girl would love the name Scarlett, as love the colour red.
If a boy, my son would have the middle name - Bradley - in tribute to my son.

Both of my sons names reflect their heritage and also the literature from the area from which that heritage comes.
