Are there ANY success stories from men on POF?
Posted: 6/22/2008 1:24:40 PM
I'm just curious if others from the Atlantic region that use this site have actually heard of any success stories from men on this site in regards to long term relationships (not the in and out of bed type romances that the usual players are chasing after)?

Is it just another web site where women shop and men waste their time? Interested to hear some feedback.

Can't see why this site would be any different!
I'm sure all of these sites have some success stories. It just appears that there aren't any successes based on ones personal experiences.
I only know of 1 couple that met here at POF events that are still together. It's been well over a year or 2 now. I consider it a success...... to date. But there are many that just have a couple months relationship and thus not long term.

I agree, in the sense that it depends on your point of view. There are many men just shopping and many women feeling it's a waste of time.

Well okay I put it differently. Why does each side feel it is a waste of time? Am I the only one who thinks that it seems to be a very elitist process. That people are looking for perfection and not willing to talk to anything that appears less. Especially since a website with a couple pictures or paragraphs is not a good way to make a adequate first impression on anyone.

Yeah, I think people are looking for perfection. Then they don't find it and start complaining about it.
Perfection is great!! Ain't going to happen.

Haven't found anyone that I am happy with.

Many on here are just looking to play mind games and engage in cyber dating. I guess it is easier too live out their sordid fantasies rather than deal with reality. And alas, I have met a few genetic malfunctions on this site but hope springs eternal and so do expectations.

Hmmm.

I think everything comes down to expectations. My figuring is most end up here after a failed relationship and determine the way to avoid another is to pick someone who is perfect for them. I think that applies at a whole quantum level higher for those over forty. Where does that leave us? It leaves people shaking their heads looking at people who are attractive and with great profiles being here for months and months because perfection doesn't exist in the single world. The perfect people are already in very long term relationships and will not be hanging around here looking at us duds.

I have often wondered how some of the "beautiful" people can be single let-alone be single for a long time while active on this site. In my very limited experience, I have seen that beauty and profiles are very shallow and when you get a little more information you get some insight as to how ugly beautiful can really be.

some people are single by choice,....as I have been for over a decade now,...my reason's had been my children,...

I had a neighbor that had been married 4 times when I moved across from her,...she and her first husband had no children but she had a son with the second another with the third and was living with the fourth at the time I met her,...he left a few years later,....her sons were confused with the whole thing,...

they didn't know whether to scratch their watch or wind their butts,...

and they didn't know what to call anyone and never mind the school family tree project,...

I was my children's only parent and that was that,....now they are grown and now I can consider me,....and what it is that I might need,....
for one thing spending time with someone who might see my wrinkles as evidence that I have lived,...and laughed, something that I like to do in the company of other's,....

oh and some might say that beauty is only skin deep but ugly goes right to the bone,...
I prefer to think of it as truly in the eye of the beholder,....

I myself have never been more beautiful, than when I have seen myself reflected in the eyes of someone I love,....that's been a while,....but I can wait

The other thing I would like to mention especially to those of my vintage is this,....

you don't get to be our age without some battle scars, and gravity isn't always as kind as we would like, and some of us may even have some health issues to deal with,...So try looking onto battle scars as evidence that we survived

some of us may even look good for our age but expecting us to be what we once were is both unkind and unfair,....

The perfect people are NOT all in a long term relationship already,...life might have served them a curve ball,....and they just might not have found that other one they were meant to be with yet

It's those kind of expectations that keep us from reaching out and getting to know one another,....who knows what gems you may have missed by taking the attitudes that if at first you don't succeed,...give up,....sheesh!

Now I have been told by men about the sorts of women you have mentioned here,....
and I no longer accept IM's because I don't wish to be greeted by male body parts on parade,....and I know there are many who are here to take advantage of people,...both men and women,.... but there are also very nice people here,...some that I now consider friends and who I might not have met otherwise,....so being careful is being smart,....but not trying,....is giving up,....and I,...for one,...am far too young to give up

and for the money we pay here,...that's not bad,....

I think the fact that we are here is proof that we haven't completely given up. But finding someone at this age isn't as important for some of us, as it was when we were young adults. I know I tend to be a lot more relaxed at this age and don't really spend much time looking for a new mate. I guess if it happens.... it happens.

After you have been single (again) for awhile, you fill up your time with work, special interest groups, hobbies, additional recreational activities, plus you get to spend more time with family and friends -- and then all of a sudden you realize one day that you are leading a very full life. You find yourself asking the question, "Do I really want to make time for a new relationship"? Naturally, a new relationship will take time away from the other things you are already doing.

I think we'll all find what we are looking for, after we figured out what it is....

Regards,
Mac
