what would your reply have been....
Posted: 6/25/2008 11:31:05 AM
I was at my local gnc this morning, the cashier a man that looked to be in his 60's , commented on one of my tattoos
" Hummmm , a rose! I quess you got that in you WILD days"
Annoyed by his RUDE comment, being that the tattoo was only a couple months old...I lowered my shirt a bit to show him the OLD TATTOO... u know the one from my wild days (lol).
Thinking that I had stopped the rude comments...... he then replys with a ...
" i would never have sex with a woman that had tattoos "
Ummmmmm i know i should respect my elders, but WTF?!?!?!?
I just "THANKED" him and walked out....

Best is to ignore. Just because somebody else has no class, diplomacy or is just plain rude doesn't mean you have to be too. It's fun sometimes to shred some fool who has the mistaken belief that their sexual or societal preferences should be everybody's but if you're not that quick at the instant decimating retort it is best to just walk away with an ugly look on your face and leave them wondering if it was something they said.

If I were you I would have retorted with, "the boys down at the trailer park like them just fine, thank you very much", turned my nose up like some elitest and stormed out, bag in hand.

The smart a$$ in me would have said pretty much what 69 said.... but I'd have picked out something about him (lack of hair, weight, height, whatever I thought he'd be sensative about) and said.. "Cool, we're even then. I wouldn't have sex with a (bald) guy! Have a great day!"

I am not sure it would have bothered me per say, but his rudeness/ lack of tact would have definately brought out my sarcastic, smart a$$ side!

BTW--Helle fellow Marylander!!

At the point you actually lowered your shirt to reveal tattoos in your breast area, you pretty much were opening yourself to anything he felt like saying. If you were uncomfortable with his initial comment to you, which wasn't that severe... silence would have been the appropriate reaction, followed by the simple thank you.

kmb... Hey :D marylander
Mustbpatient... i didnt say i showed him my boobs .. i wouldnt want to give old man a heart attack!!! I didnt say i was "uncomfortable " either, you are just a prime example of a man that thinks he can say what ever is on his mind to any woman.... there is a matter of RESPECT... i come to a place of buisness to buy a product... i waited patiently while he chat on the phone to pay for my product... and STILL used my manners, please , thank you , etc... for him to be so rude and disrespectful! Guess this day and age RESPECT is a term of the past!

Part of getting a tatt. used to be that you were a rebel. They have been so widely accepted that they have are trendy. You should have smiled said, "thanks pops" and headed out the door IMO. You aren't a rebel I take it...

Uhmm... and I never implied that you DID say you showed him your boobs? And by commenting that you if were "uncomfortable" with his initial comment... substitute whatever word of your choice for that. Call it "offended", or "taken aback", call it whatever the hell you like.

Reading comprehension, it's a grand thing... try to practice it sometime.

I agree. **sholes should know that they are **sholes, and people can still be **sholes even if they're old....

but either way, your not wrong for rolling your eyes and walking out either, some **sholes just aren't worth it...

I wouldn't have shown him my other in the first place. You could have given him a heart attack, and even though he was rude you wouldn't want that on your conscience, second thoughts, I'm not sure about that one

At the risk of sounding like a rat or a stool or a cry baby, you could also have reported him.

He had NO right whatsoever to make any kind of sexual comment to a customer.

Personally, I would have reported his sorry a$$! Creep.

Well I complemented a young salesgirl on her appearance once in a respectful way, saying "That outfit looks good on you". She cracked her gum, looked at me, and said, "Get lost, Gramps" I just laughed and walked away. A friend of mine used to say, "There are a**holes wherever you go, so it is better to ignore them then let one spoil even a single minute of your day."

But if you are looking for a snappy comeback, I suggest "Gramps, the only place you would ever get a chance to do that is in your monthly wet dream!"

Sometimes the best reply is nothing at all-gives great meaning to the old addage 'some things are better off not said' - or my version of this old addage 'old folks should be seen and not heard'..LOL.

I know a few self-imposed important people who make lot's of off-handed remarks to which all I do is smile. You did the right thing-kudo's to you!!

I don't have any tattoos but if I did I cannot imagine showing them to some nosy, rude cashier. So I guess I wouldn't have needed to say anything to him other than bye.

Even if the comment had started out harmless, the ending comment is considered harrassment and he could get fired for it. If you like flashing people your body parts in public, you will be leaving yourself open to ridicule. IJS

How about...

Him - " Hummmm , a rose! I quess you got that in you WILD days"
Me - "I'm not done yet!!! Enjoy your day." *Big smile*

Then walked out like you did. I wouldn't have shown him anymore as he already had pre-judged you based on the one he COULD see.
