"Online community launches in Canada with 'strict ban on ugliness'"
TORONTO - An online community is launching in Canada today for the exclusive use of attractive people, complete with a "strict ban on ugliness."
Prospective members of beautifulpeople.net submit a photo and profile in hopes of being deemed attractive enough to be a member by those who have already passed the subjective voting process.
Some people may not like the sounds of it, but the founder defends the BeautifulPeople Network as honest.
The site is already in 15 other countries, and Greg Hodge, the managing director, says Canada was chosen because "there are many gorgeous people in this country," though he adds "there are also many uglies."
Hodge says the website "separates the wheat from the chaff."
Robert Hintze, the site's founder, says its appeal is that good-looking people can network without "traipsing through numerous unattractive profiles."
I think people are now pushing the envelope just a tad too far ...JMHO....

Not very often a really attractive gender hooks up with a not so attractive gender,just the way it is.

Look, lets face it ...even if you did have a profile on there, how many would YOU think are your type? Beautiful is relative, what might be gorgeous to one person, might not be to another.
Even if they let me in (lol) Its not a site I'd be even remotely interested in, but I can't say I have a problem with it. Go for it, I say! | |

The only positive about it is that people that consider themselves "hot", "attractive", etc. will only have their egos boosted and their heads swollen.
Maybe it would be for the best if the perfect people stuck together and those of us who are regular folks can get on with our lives.
I dated a guy very briefly who was quite attractive, but he just wasn't my "type". He spent a LOT of time admiring himself in the mirror and was shocked that I would break up with him.
Life is too short to have to spend much of it confirming for someone how hot they are. | |

There's a flaw though - women's currency is their youth and attractiveness; men's is their status and money. So the site really should be beautiful women and rich men. Deny it all you want, but that's generally the way the world works. | |

There is always a little truth in what you say I agree that in this society a woman's currency is closely tied to her appearance. I agree that to a certain extent a man's is to his status and money. None of this makes the beautiful site right.
I guess the problem people have with the site is that it reinforces the notion that both men and women can gain power by being beautiful. I guess people would have a problem with it because it is exclusive.
We need a test person. Someone like yourself, Pip, to apply and them come back to us and report on your experiences.

I cracked up when I heard about this on the news and am 100% in support of it. I believe that water finds it's own level and I fully support creating any exclusive site that someone feels the need to create.
Everyone moans and b!tches about people being picky, choosy, not nice enough, too nice, not kinky enough, too kinky.....who really cares if they want to screen out fugly??? Like it matters to us fugly ones!!! Sheesh.
I do have to giggle though when I think of all the beautiful people deciding that someone got through who doesn' t meet their certain criteria....just imagine the "howwor"!!!!!  | |

And I guess that is where I begin my struggle with the concept of this site. I can understand some sites being soley for the purpose of culture (you are either a certain nationality or your not, pretty clear), a site for over weight people (they can establish a base line weight , again clear guidelines)...but seriously who determines beauty...who I think is beautiful is not going to be the same for someone else...there are no clear guidelines to work with......this reminds me of the old boys club..its who you know and who you are and will be based soley on the tastes of the committe who allows entry.....
Although I have to admit the devil in me would like to give it a shot just because and for no other reason... .....when I feel I have had enough rejection here on this site and I am feeling like I need just a tad more before I enter into life time therapy, I may just apply....

Personally, I don't really care that this beautiful people site exists - my response to it is just mild curiosity.
Plus, beauty isn't really all that subjective. What I think is beautiful you probably also would think is beautiful, as would most people. It's hardwired into us. What is more subjective is style - e.g. some people might think bikers are hot; others would go more for the nerdy type. But if you stripped them naked and stripped off all their tattoos, peircings, etc. we'd all probably agree on their degree of base physical attractiveness. | |
