Should men tear their eyes out or should kids be locked up till 18?

This is what the world is coming to ladies and gentlemen.
Please read the following carefully i have borrowed the story from the
Sydney Morning Herald newspaper dated June 22, 2008.

Thanks to writer Sharri Markson.

PARENTS are furious after being banned from taking photographs of their children at weekend sporting events.

They say the Bill Henson affair has made sports clubs paranoid about allowing them to photograph their children.

Henson was cleared after police seized naked photographs of a 13- year-old girl from an art gallery.

Netball, basketball, rugby league, AFL, cricket, soccer and baseball clubs have imposed rules to prevent photos of young players being taken without the consent of all parents and coaches.

Macarthur junior baseball league president Maud Goldfinch said parents had to sign a form confirming they would not take photographs without permission.

Ms Goldfinch said that as a parent, she did not agree with the policy, which deprived children of happy sporting memories.

"A lot of parents don't agree with what's going on.

"They're quite upset by not being able to take photos of their children _ they see it as an invasion of their privacy.

"The Bill Henson (saga) brought it to a head. It's made people more aware ... and it brings debate around the topic.''

Parents also need to give permission before photographs are uploaded to the club's website.
One father said he was made to feel like a pedophile while photographing his eight-year-old daughter on the netball court.

Michael Bianchino lodged a complaint with the Hills District Netball Association after it forbade him to photograph his daughter, Mia, during an under-nine match at Pennant Hills Park on May 31.

"The way I was treated, I was made to feel like a pedophile,'' Mr Bianchino said.

"I just said: 'I'm taking photos of my daughter - if anyone has a problem with their child being in the image, let me know.'''

Club president Jennie Thompson repeatedly refused to comment on the incident, but said the club's policy was that parents could take photographs only after seeking permission.

"Our stance and our club's stance is that we ask people to obtain permission prior to taking photographs of junior players,'' she said.

Cherrybrook United Netball Club president Debbie Whittle said it was hard to get permission from every parent, so few photographs were taken.

"You want to get these memories for your children to keep.

"It's an important part of their childhood, and you're limited because of all these rulings about getting permission,'' she said.

..And this from yahoo 7...

A Sydney man has lodged a compliant after he was forbidden to photograph his daughter playing netball.

The man was banned from photographing his daughter because he didn't have permission to take photos of other children playing.

The man said he was treated like a pedophile, as if was doing something wrong and that the ban was an invasion of his privacy.

.................................................................................................................

So i was wondering if you are one of these morons who abuses mums and especially dads for wanting a momento of a moment in their kids life?or do you just stare at them and wonder if their hard drive is full of kiddie porn or maybe you stare at the child looking for any little sign that they are being abused? Its amazing to think that people as whole consider themselves level headed and logical but as individuals we see a seedy side to anything we can tag.

I know there are rock spiders out there male and female (go to the mako website if you think there arent female predators) but if we cant take photos of our own children then maybe we shouldnt even look at children...maybe we should make it mandatory for all kids to wear full body dress till they are 18,like the muslim women wear for both genders?

Maybe we should just sterelise the population and in 20 years time it wont be an issue.

Same type of problem (not exactly) going on in the paparazzi world. I've talked to regular mothers from the elite areas of LA, Ca. like Malibu and Beverly Hills and when they go to pick up their children from school the photographers there to get that million dollar shot of a celebrity's kid are swarming the neighborhood.
In Sydney's case I think you summed it up in your first sentence.
A true sign of the times. Sounds like a case of overreaction towards a few ruining it for everyone.
I was in the heart of Sydney just months ago and was taking pictures of my ex girlfriend's boys playing rugby. Guess I'm lucky I'm not still in detention.

Last I heard you can photograph anything in a public place, because there is a reasonable expectation someone might take a photo. What if those security cameras get your kid...are they considered a gateway to porn?

Parental instinct is supreme idiocy and there is nothing that can be done about it.

From what I read, there is nothing stopping the parents from taking photos...all they need do is seek permission to do so, from those organizing the event. It seems reasonable.

In this day and age, a lot of people take the idea of "protecting their child" to an extreme. Some with good reason.

Example...a case where a parent was getting threatening phone calls and generally harassed and odd things sent in the mail...the parents did not want pictures of thier child out there. Especially after one call where the person said they could put a machine gun to the kids head.
Can you blame the parents?
I can't.
I can also see where organizations want to protect themselves. In this manner, nobody can get "lockeroom shots" of the kids or whatever, without violating the organizations rules, so they can dismiss that person.

Its ridiculous and I wish I had millions of dollars to go and fight all these stupid rules in a court somewhere, even though it should even get that far. Common sense, if its a dad or mom of one of the players taking photos, primarily of their own child presumably, then everyone should shut the heck up!!
If its Jon or Jane Pedophile at the park taknig photos of any kid who swings on the monkey bars, as the parent take a look, go over and question the person, get a good look at them, ask for a card if they say they are a pro photographer or mewspaper person. becuase if it is Jon or Jane and you approach asking questions, they are gonna scoot right outta there and then you can lodge a complaint with the police.
When is this worl going to start taking responsability for itself??

People need to learn to practice civil disobedience and just do it anyway. Something that I've learned. There will always be an excuse. People can pass any law or rule they like and always find an excuse. Probably, some parent somewhere didn't want a person taking pictures of a kid. For a personal reason. Then, they pulled some strings and came up with an excuse to pass a new rule. That punishes everyone.

We also need to punish the guilty and stop punishing the population for the crimes of a few.
