Test #1 for Obama Supporters[Thread locked/Not A Valid Topic Format-Game Thread]

THIS IS A TEST.. NOT A DEBATE..
This thread is not about McCain or Bush... if you support Obama then you must know where he stands and what he plans to do if he is elected pertaining the following questions.

Feel free to answer in essay form.. this is not a debate.. I'm gathering this information so we can all become more informed on what Obama's plans are.. Some of us are undecided or unfamiliar with Obama's plans for the future related to my questions.

Please answer in your own words and not direct us to a website. The more you know about your candidate the less need to rely on a website. Rememer, he is interviewing for the highest Job in the United States.. the CIC... also try to get your answers from direct Quotes from Obama and not speculation or opinion quotes. Forget that he is a Democrat during this test.. this is not meant to be Democrat vs. Republican debate.

Lastly, Let's try to keep this thread from being de-railed. Whoever is able to answer all of the questions thoroughly and can enlighten us the most will be the WINNER.

Begin the Test.

Question #1 on Oil
How does Obama plan to lower oil prices? and make gasoline more affordable.. and do you think his plan will work.. and how long will his plan take?

Question #2 on Taxes
Is Obama proposing to raise any taxes? Has he sworn to not raise taxes? How does he feel about the previous tax cuts? Does he propose to raise taxes that you feel comfortable with?

I dont know and dont care. We pay far less for gas than nearly any other country, we burn it like crazy and now we have to SUFFER until we start shutting down production of crappy engines and putting high mileage, more hybrids and electric cars on the road. Cheap gas wont change anything, now or ten years from now.

The rise to riches for the wealthy has been ASTRONOMICAL for the past 7 years and the middle class is crumbling. Obama plans to eliminate the big tax breaks that Bush put into place and reduce the burden on the rest of us. If he does that and that alone, we will all see no change in our tax rates or pay less.

And with disengaging from Iraq and not messing with Iran, those hundreds of billions we spend there can be spent at home for NON-MILITARY costs.

Question #1 on Oil

I am unsure as to what exactly his plan is at this point in time. My guess is he plans to hire intelligent people schooled in these things to help him out. Do I think his plan will work? Maybe, maybe not. But we won't know if anyone's plans will work until we try them, will we? And I have already heard that McCain's desire for offshore drilling won't come to fruition at the pump for at least 10 years, if they started today.

Question #2 on Taxes
Is Obama proposing to raise any taxes? Has he sworn to not raise taxes? How does he feel about the previous tax cuts? Does he propose to raise taxes that you feel comfortable with?

Is he proposing to raise any taxes? Yes, he is. For the top wage earners in the country. He is proposing to cut taxes of the middle class. Has he sworn not to raise taxes? No. And only a fool would believe that any new president, Democrat or Republican, can accomplish much of anything in this economy by not raising taxes. And I'm sure we all remember Bush Sr's "read my lips" speech....which was nothing but a campaign promise he was unable to deliver on. I'd rather not be lied to for my vote thank you.

I hope I passed I hope I passed I hope I passed!

Since I'm one of the few....totally bi-partisan and completely open to both sides type person on these forums...I will take it and then it will give a good cross section of what the American people as a whole believe.

Question 1

Due to the high quality and far reaching reseach for the truth I have determined that The obama doesn't want lower oil prices, as he intends to heavily tax the energy producers taking the profit out of their chosen field of employment. Not grasping the idea that no profit means no production, The obama is simply relying on past failures of the Carter Presidency to shut down the American business machine with unfair and irresponsible tax increase.

The obama bieng a crazed radical don't like or want tax cuts of any kind, feeling instead that massive government is the only salvation for the American people...just as long as the right people are in charge and not the fair-mind such as myself and the poster of this thread.

Question 2

I know some of the wisdom I am espousing to you all is quite uplifting and of course very enlightening...here's more. The obama will raise taxes and has not offered to take the oath of no new or more unfair or irresponsible tax increases. Yes...he could be a real danger to the American economy and it's middle class.

There you have it...a true cross-section of what America thinks.

Question #1 on Oil
How does Obama plan to lower oil prices? and make gasoline more affordable.. and do you think his plan will work.. and how long will his plan take?

He plans to impose a 50% windfall profits tax on the oil companies, which is what I agree with. As much as folks consume gas nowadays, Exxon should easily recoup that.

Question #2 on Taxes
Is Obama proposing to raise any taxes? Has he sworn to not raise taxes? How does he feel about the previous tax cuts? Does he propose to raise taxes that you feel comfortable with?

As stated, Obama will roll back the tax cuts for the wealthy folks and cut them for the middle class folk. Why would he swear not to raise taxes if he's gonna hike them up on wealthy? Besides, it's been known that Obama disagrees with the tax cuts, as they obviously benefit the rich. And finally, Obama has proposed some necessary tax increases (don't know every last one as I haven't had time to read up on them), and AFAIK, those are taxes that help people like Obama(in the wealthy 1% bracket). To know that he plans to raise taxes on people like himself says enough right there.

i think these are both loaded questions.

1. why do we want to keep oil for the next generation? your question assumes that it's a good idea for us to continue to depend on oil and it also assumes that it can be fixed in the near future when it took us 30 years to create this problem.

secondly, no plan that foucses on oil, short of invading saudi arabia or venezuela will provide us with cheap oil. cheap oil is a thing of that past. the only things that can bring the price down to prior levels is 1) improving the value of the dollar, 2) providing alternate sources of energy to compete with oil and drive the price down, or 3) conservation programs which make america more efficient and reduce consumption.

obama has already been clear about investment in renewable energy just like jimmy carter did. jimmy carter had a plan that would:
1) have us derive 50% of our power from solar energy by the year 2000.
2) he succeeded at implementing a national energy conservation program that cut oil consumption by 1/6th.
3) he hired paul volker as his fed chairman. volker immediately cut the money supply and focused on reducing inflation. the value of the dollar improved as did it's buying power against oil.

as soon as reagan got in the price of oil had started to fall so Reagan immeditaely dismantled the solar panels from the white house roof, ignored any conservation programs (the auto mileage standard remained unchanged since last years energy bill) and killed the alternative fuel program that Carter adopted. so there will not be any overnight solutions but oil is not sustainable and a bad idea to leave the fate of our economy up to a whims of a foreign oil cartel that is increasingly hostel to the US and which also has growing customers like india and china that want a piece of American's oil share.

2) Another loaded question. You're asking if Obama will raise taxes as if Bush didn't as if Clinton didn't, as if Bush #1 didn't as if Reagan didn't. THEY ALL RAISED TAXES! Bush's Tax increases on the middle class are still going in through 2010!

Secondly, Bush (and Reagan) created record deficits which have not been paid off and your tax dollars are currently paying interest on those deficits. So why is deficit spending ok but a tax increase is not? you will have to pay increased taxes in some form to pay those deficits eventually. deficits are just deferred tax increases.

The difference is Reagan & Bush raised taxes on the poor and middle class while cutting taxes for corporations and rich and turned in record deficits.

Clinton raised taxes on corporations and rich and turned in a balanced budget without need for future taxes.

Obama's plan is clear, to undo some of what Reagan did by making the Payroll tax less regressive and reinstate the tax cuts that bush made for the rich and corporations. if you recall bush's original excuse for these cuts was that clinton left him with a budget surplus...so he wanted to give it back. well bush turned the surplus into a record deficit his first year in office, so what was he giving back?

we know mccain's plan, SAME AS BUSH. NO PLAN!
drilling in ANWR best case scenario will provide a 2 cent per gallon improvement in gas prices in the year 2025! and he plans to make Bush Tax cut for the rich and Tax increase for the middle clase (Alternative Minimum Tax) permanent and he's going to keep the war in Iraq, so NEW RECORD DEFICITS THAT YOU WILL EVENTUALLY HAVE TO PAY WITH NEW TAXES!

Well it seems that fairmind Americans, like myself of course, don't believe wealth redistribution is a good idea. The obama is showing the bad judgement he's so well known for with that idea. Besides more revenue to the bloated goat of the government coffers means most waste of taxpayer dollars.

http://www.gallup.com/poll/108445/Americans-Oppose-Income-Redistribution-Fix-Economy.aspx

Americans Oppose Income Redistribution to Fix EconomyHalf say the government is doing too much, 43% too little to solve country's problems.

by Dennis Jacobe, Chief Economist
PRINCETON, NJ -- When given a choice about how government should address the numerous economic difficulties facing today's consumer, Americans overwhelmingly -- by 84% to 13% -- prefer that the government focus on improving overall economic conditions and the jobs situation in the United States as opposed to taking steps to distribute wealth more evenly among Americans.

Ok, I know this is not supposed to be a debate thread, we're supposed to turn in our tests and sit quietly with our heads down, but after reading that quoted above a thought just came to me. I wonder if America is so divided as a result of the two party system. I wonder if there were three viable parties to begin with if everything would still be so polarized. I am thinking no.

Thanks to all who have participated thus far.. I know this isn't intended to be a debate thread but I just want to throw out there that the Oil companies.. and I learned this from the Energy/Oil hearings.. the Oil companies only make .07 cents on the dollar so IF we are going to tax them won't they just turn around and raise the price of gas more? this is just a question not intended for argument sake.

LOL ONLY 7 cents on the dollar? Well let's see. I drive a car that gets 27-29 mpg and it costs me usually around $50 to fill up these days. So that's about $7.00 a month from just me and my Malibu. Multiply that times the number of people and the number of vehicles (a lot of whom spend more) and your "only 7 cents on the dollar" can add up to billions. And that's just America.

Nefarious,
since you are fairminded and don't agree with wealth distribution,

did you oppose when Reagan Cut the top rates of the Progressive Taxes (income and corp) and at the same time, paid for it by increasing regressive taxes namely Social Security (payroll tax), excise taxes, cut benefits for social security recipients and increased the retirement age.?

This is wealth redistribution. It's called taking from the poor and elderly and giving to the rich and corporations.

did you oppose when the current president cut taxes primarily for the rich and corporations and paid for it with a tax increase on 30 million middle class Americans by making the alternative minimum tax applicable to people who make as little as 40k a yr?

This is also wealth distribution. From the middle class to the rich and corporations.

Bush and Reagan are like reverse Robin Hoods. Take from the poor, give to the rich!

I'm sure you opposed that strenuously.

Question # 1:
It doesn't take a genius to figure that one out. All he has to do is to remove the threat of war and oil prices will come down by half within the first year alone and he knows it very well.

Also, he will have to support all States that are willing to force the automobile industry to produce zero emission cars (again) as they did in California in the 90’s until the federal government (bushie) decided to get involve to scrap the project by suing the State. Bushie didn’t want electric cars around…I wonder why???

I also believe that he should provide grants for groups working on different alternatives in regards to oil and protect them from any or all possibilities of either being bought out or forced to cease whatever they are doing because some groups (oil companies) will do anything possible to shut them down. There’s been plenty of fantastic ideas in the past 20 years and all just vanished once oil producers got involved.

Question # 2:
Forget all the election promises and bullshit. Someone will have to raise taxes to attack the debt created by the bushie league of terror. Anyone who thinks that he is a miracle worker is a complete fool. He will have a hell of a challenge to deal with and no matter how some may look at it, raising taxes is in part, a way to work on the main problem. People have to pay for electing such a dumbass government….TWICE!

Glamour6, Obama supporters are all individuals and we all have issues that are of the greatest concern to us.

For example I have a child in college who will be there for a while, and with skyrocketing costs his Education plans are at the top of my list of concerns.

I'm also concerned about this war that Bush got us into in Iraq....4000+ have already been killed, tens of thousands injured and Billions of dollars wasted chasing enemies who did not attack us on 9/11. I did not and still do not support us occupying Iraq, therefore his plans to get us out are of interest to me.

His Healthcare Plan is of interest, because in the richest country on earth, 46+ million Americans are without insurance.

Civil Rights and the Economy.....especially this foreclosure crisis is of great concerns to me right now and so on.

It appears that your primary concerns are about oil and taxes, therefore I urge you to take the initiative to learn on your own what Obama's plans are, as well as the other candidates.

Here is a link to Obama's site that will answer some of your concerns.

http://www.barackobama.com/issues/

We all win with Obama as President!! Obama for America 2008!!

PS: How will you be able to determine who the 'winner' is if you are not familiar with Obama's plans???

First of all, Obama will not be lowering the oil prices, his administration will work to do so. The success in passing legislation to get the job done will hinge on whether or not the lobbying done by the oil companies and other special interests can be curtailed to a point where pols can effectively govern without having their agenda usurped by influence.
Since the Opec and Wall Street folks cannot even begin to agree on why the prices are so high, I'll wing it here and try to answer the quiz.

1. Close the Enron loophole that has allowed oil futures to be traded at riculously high levels and re institute futures trading regulation.
2. Take a serious look at alternative fuel sources. Electricity, hydrogen, and natural gas. Currently it is fairly easy to convert vehicles to propane or natural gas usage, but the EPA has a ridiculous stranglehold on the technology to do so. It isn't a market that will be viable anytime soon unless legislation is passed that allows the importation of research from outside the US to be recognized. Propane and natural gas are selling at about half the price of gasoline and they burn much cleaner. Hydrogen is an easily manufactured fuel source, but the problem is supply vs demand. They car companies won't manufacture the engines because there is a lack of fueling stations, and the fueling stations won't be built because there is a lack of cars to fuel.

It all hinges on how hard the oil companies fight to keep their stranglehold on the energy supply.

Is Obama proposing to raise any taxes? Has he sworn to not raise taxes? How does he feel about the previous tax cuts? Does he propose to raise taxes that you feel comfortable with?

From what I've read he proposes to raise and lower taxes. Lower taxes for the middle and lower class incomes, higher taxes for upper incomes, and removal of many corporate tax breaks. Rather than say does he plan raise taxes, I'm more inclined to say he plans to redistribute taxation.

Question #1:

Saudi Arabia has already agreed to ramp up production. Add to that that the skyrocketing costs have essentially lowered demand significantly. Less demand=lowering prices. So, in the short term, gas will go down, or at least stabilize a little.

As for Obama, he will probably put tighter regulations on futures speculation, raise the minimum wage to increase the buying power of those hardest hit, and invest more heavily in alternative fuels. He will require automotive manufacturers to make more fuel-efficient vehicles. I'm not certain, but I think he's also for nuclear power. The way I see it, we are dying of emphezema, and everyone is complaining about the high cost of cigarettes. The US needs more long-term thinking.

Question #2:

Obama will raise income taxes on those making over $230K/year. For everyone below that, taxes will decrease. He will probably increase capital gains and estate taxes as well. Hopefully he will spend way less money on Iraq, no-bid contracts, and companies like Blackwater. His tax hikes and cuts/non-increases in war spending hopefully will help to pay down the debt, so that we don't have to borrow so much from China, print more money, and pay so much in interest on the debt. These things have contributed to the devaluation of the dollar, which has contributed to the high cost of gas. Full circle!

This is a The obama testing thread...changing the subject to a Reagan and Bush thread isn't going to get me an A on this test. Those guys were Presidents and The obama's a wanna-be...besides they cut my tax bill...The obama wants to raise it.

People need to learn to take care of and plan for themselves and quit wanting the government to take care of them...given the choice I would have opted out of Social Security. It's not my job to do their planning for them. I'm nefarious...read my profile. I just joined POF to find a rich terminally ill old lady willing to give me power of attorney and look the other way when it comes to my self-absorbed hedonistic lifestyle. I just hope no sick wealthy old ladies are reading this now it could cut down on my chances.

1) He plans on taxing oil companies’ windfall profits. That way they will be discouraged from making so much money and of course gas. I've never really understood why the Exxon Mobile Company is such a bad thing. Seems to me Exxon is just a company that does care how much money it makes. Oh and he wants to regulate speculators as well. Because ultimately it’s easier blaming a third party for people's suffrage than actually addressing the problem. Only thing that his supporters don't understand is that if they have some kind of retirement mutual fund, or 401K plan. Chances are they are the speculators.

2) I think Obama plans to remove Bush's tax cuts and raise the highest tax bracket back to 39% as it was under the Clinton administration. Which is one of the few things that Obama might actually have right. It's too bad that his other few policies suck so much.

Obamanomics does not understand how business works, he's never ran anything! this is why flip flops on everything he says! He has no clue how to drive oil prices down! he has no clue how to govern with respect to taxs, If you tax the rich the poor will pay the rich control the economy and pass those tax hikes regulation cost increases onto the little guy you and me! If he goes after big oil to take the so called wind fall profits big oil will simply pass the cost onto the consumer! That's economics 101.. most who support obama really have no clue what his agenda is because he doesn't really know him self, each day it changes.
