| Movie Recommendations - seen anything good lately? Posted: 6/29/2008 10:57:09 AM | I haven't been to a theater in ages. Usually just watch movies at home. There's a new movie rental store coming to my area within walking distance, so this is going to be very convenient for me. Normally, I would buy whatever ones I want to see.
The last one I bought was "The Golden Compass." This movie was quite difficult for me to understand various things about it, and I have watched it three or four times to completely digest the controversial storyline. I even watched it once with English subtitles so I could understand the names and certain other words. It reminded me a little bit of "Noah's Ark" at the end. They were supposed to do a sequel to this movie, but it didn't do so well at the box office in the U.S. and maybe they won't now.
How about you? Have you seen any that are worth recommending, past or present? Tell us why you did or did not like the ones you have seen.

I intend to see it soon. | |

We recently saw The Strangers at the movie theater and it stinks...agreed by 2 adults and 2 teens. We may go see The Happening later tonight. Also Reign Over Me with Adam Sandler is on Cinemax. Not a normal Sandler movie and we found it by accident. Great movie if you are going through the guide and see it on.

I'm a little like you ... I don't go to the cinemas as much as I used to. It's just too convenient to either rent a DVD or tune in to a "pay-for-view" selection from the selections available on my cable TV.
However, I did venture out to see the new Indian Jones movie ..."The Temple of the Crystal Skull". If you enjoyed any of the other Indian Jones movies I don't think this one will dissapoint you. I had my doubts that an aging Harrison Ford would be able to pull it off ... with all the action scenes typical of the Indian Jones movies but I felt he was great in it! The other thing I liked is I felt it was a movie that the entire family could enjoy watching 7 that's can be a difficult thing to find now-a-days.
I'm sure there will be those hard-core Indiana Jones fans who have a problem with the introduction of the UFO/Alien twist as a departure from the past movies in the series but it all seemed to work for me.

"I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry" is hilarious as well as "Ready to Rumble". "A Home of Our Own" with Kathy Bates is pretty interesting as well. burtorange.com has some reviews every once in awhile.

In the past month I have seen these NEW movies(remember I have a 12yr old): Kung foo Panda Wall-e The Incredible Hulk
Kung foo panda was ok, not as good as the disney pixar films. It has some cute moments and a good moral to the story. I would reccomned it for younger children then my own.
Wall-e, I seen this as a double feature over the weekend at the drive in.... Disney ~ Pixar does it again!! This is a great movie, one that I would pay full price to see again. Adults and kids will be laughing out loud throughout the whole movie.
The incredible hulk, was the second feature after Wall-e. I thought the last hulk movie was horrible! This one was actually pretty good. Action and a story line that wasnt too far fetched. Even if you dont remember the series or have ever read the comic, you will enjoy this one! (there is even a cameo of the original hulk ~ for those of us old enough to remember!)

Iron Man was the first one and Incredible Hulk was the second. Incredible Hulk wasn't too bad, but it was kind of ruined for us because we saw Iron Man first. Now Iron Man was an excellent movie, we all loved it. Robert Downey Jr. does a fantastic job in this movie. It had drama, action, comedy and even a little bit of romance. I like a movie that does not get slow throughout the whole thing and keeps your interest...that was this one. And as an added bonus for us ladies, Downey is dirty, sexy hot plus kind of charming. Probably the best movie I have seen in the theaters so far this year.

Posted: 7/1/2008 11:06:02 AM | Speed Racer - perhaps the worst theatrical release movie ever...and I liked the original cartoon, and every character in the movie did a great job. The morphing between real and animation was constant and disconcerting.
Sex and the City - what you'd expect.
The Bucket List - very good, predictable, but there's something about Morgan Freeman's voice narrating parts that feels like The Shawshank Redemption all over again.

THE LOST CITY is also worth watching. Ladies you will like Andy Garcia in this film. Summer movies for the most part are just that. sad to think we are watching movies about comic book heros. LITTLE ATHENS was very interesting.
I have that on my 'to see' list, but can't find it at my local video store/library.... must have seen the previews because I noted it.

We have to drive like 25 minutes just to get there and then the cost of the ticket. It just isn't worth it. I did take my son and his girlfriend to the movies a couple of weeks ago though. They saw Love Guru which my son didn't really like, but his girlfriend and her friends thought it was really good. I saw The Happening (I couldn't go to the same movie as my 17 year old son and his girlfriend, but I did send my 13 year old nephew in with them lol). It was actually pretty good. Some of it is pretty gory though, but I actually liked it. The last one I saw in a theatre before that one was 21 which was a really good movie.
I liked The Bucket List also but it does sort of bring back memories from Shawshank with Morgan Freeman narrating. That's okay though. I loved Shawshank and watch it several times a year. It is definitely one of my favorites.
My son saw The Strangers and said it was not really that great. He also saw The Eye and said it scared the crap out of him.
We get movies from Blockbuster online, mailed right to our door. I have seen a lot of really good movies lately with that.
Fool's Gold was okay. It was funny but not the best movie I have ever seen.
