I'm listening to the Verve right now and I'm amazed at how they got away with the riff in this song... it's a Latvian folk tune I used to dance to over 50 years ago and they still do it today.... all they did was put their own words to it!
What a nerve.... !!!!

Actually no! I really enjoyed it but then it dawned on me, surly there should be some royalties going to the Latvian community... or whatever!

Had it been an old English folk song... I bet there would have been a massive court case of infringement of copyright... or something of the like!

Never a young or old hippy. Still neither. But Deeply Vale was an 'old fashioned' festival.
It was brilliant. Och maybe still a young punky/rocky/reggae effer/heifer.

I will never forget Deeply Vale. The Ruts, The Buzzcocks et al. Anyone that was there will remember some of the bands and the fun.

Liam Gallagher was slating Jay-Z in public saying there was no place for his type at Glastonbury, so Jay-Z came on stage and started singing an oasis song, (you're my wonderwall) with people on guitars too, and the whole crowd was singing along, classic!

Bet Liam hates the "I am Jay-Z and I am fucking amazing" prick even more now!

From the little I saw of it Amy Winehouse was her usual awful self with her legs having a constant seizure and her lack of vocal talent shining through. No idea what the rest of the acts were like.

The only bit I managed to catch was last night - a whole hour of Eddie Grant and I thought he was awesome. I so wanted to be in that crowd basking in the glorious sunshine and singing along

I enjoyed watching some of it, pigeon dectives where good and a band called goldfrap, amy whinehouse was utter shit,, she shouldnt be allowed on stage, most of the songs where slurred, couldnt understand a word when she introduced her band, she just wails and whines (like her name) it would have been better if the organisers had put another act in her place ,something decent!

I have just returned from Worthy Farm, and I can tell you that the festival was really good this year.
Even the weather (after Thursday night's downpour) was kind. Any underfoot mud dried up very quickly - I even got slightly burned shoulders.....
I didn't see Jay Z, but can tell you that there was PLENTY of other stuff to enjoy!

I thought it was an incredible festival this year; loved it all but highlights were definitely The Verve just a magical performance (I also though Jay Z blew away the critics with his performance)

Love that place

But what is it exactly that the festivals do nothing for you? If you like concerts then why not festivals....Its just a massive outdoor concert but with heaps of bands/solo artists/Poets/storytellers/comedy........You know you can have a little luxury these days by hiring campervans/caravans and even massive tippee's so no rough sleeping if you dont want?

and come on babe...younger days....aren't you still young now??? you're not exactly drawing your pension yet are you?????!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The music just sets you free

Jayzee completley ruined Wonderwall in my opinion and did make him look like a bad kareeokee ( or however you spell it) at a cheap wedding reception.

Gladstonbury isn't what it used to be anyhow so you can't say no artist has a place there, but it was different to have a (c)rap artist . Rap's got realy borring lately.
I would sue him for deffamation and ruining a decent fookin song if I was the Gallagers

Go Amy Winehouse she's still standing even with everyone's judgemental crap, I love her stuff. But please gal put some weight on I'm worried.

^^Jay Z was actualy taking the piss out Oasis with his version of wonderwall
because Noel Gallagher said a Hip Hop artist shouldnt be the headline act.......
His one hour set which I watched on BBC3 blew his critics away and shut them up!
If you think it was meant to be a serious version of wonderwall your completely mistaken!!

As for Amy Winehouse her performance was awful and she should have stayed
in hospital...She looked like she was drunk,or stoned, forgot her lines or slurred them and
punched a member of the audience and this is meant to be a role model for young people?

"do you also watch footy on the tv.....is it better!!!"
depends, modern stadia leave me cold, Ive turned down numerous free tickets to watch, prefer to stand and scream rather than sit and watch, TV is marginally better these days

"do you watch porn on tv...................is it better!!"
no, pretty daft question really

Im not into the 'festival' experience, it just does nothing for me sorry.

Phoenix.....What do you mean 'do you also watch footy on the tv etc etc...Or am I missing something???

Misself....Since 'rave' got people o/s and then it all disppeared into clubs thanks to the Criminal Justice Act of 1994. The festival scene really took off some 12 odd years ago as people wanted to go o/s again...Of course it will get commercial but there are many festivals around the country that are not...

gladitsummer....You still have really described exactly why the festivals are not your scene...Was it a bad encounter at one? Or something else.....???? You also now say you don't like going to 'modern stadia'. They leave you cold......Perhaps it's something deeper and I shouldn't ask??? But i have anyway.....Great debate by the way x

bad encounter??? no

something else? been at festivals when younger, and to me that is who they are for, sounds a bit ageist but the reason for going was the buzz, being a bit younger and carefree, no deep psychological trauma and also I cant be arsed to use those pastic tardis type toilets and be ripped off at every turn for the most basic of foods and drink etc.
Just a viewpoint

oh and as for football stadia, big souless concrete arenas that have not a fraction of the atmosphere that older grounds with less people used to have
