| Who was your hero/ your big crush. Posted: 6/30/2008 7:25:23 AM | Growing up, who was your hero and who did you have a crush on?
Looking back, how much of an influence were they and did they influence your choices of partners?
My daddy was my hero. Tall, handsome, muscles, sporty and kind. Daddy wasn't book smart but he's very honest, has integrity, was a hard working family man. He hasn't changed much apart from going grey. I'm proud when people say I'm my father's daughter.
My other hero was Raelene Boyle. I cried when she was disqualified at the Monteal Olympics. I honestly believe she was drug free too, in a time when the public was naive to blood doping and steroids. Raelene Boyle rocks!
I had a crush on Bodie from The Professionals , Han Solo and Indiana Jones. And that's why I've had some grief in love. Oh well. Daddy is still the awesomest.

In the 1990s , Cathy Hood the woman who started UnderCoverwear Party Plan in Australia. She was also a breast cancer victim, and became a well known icon who helped The NSW Cancer Council with fundraising for the Nurses who helped Breast Cancer Patients cope with life after surgery. It was one of the companies I have worked for in the past, and I still purchase some of their range each year.
Richard Gere, The first movie I ever saw him in was Gigalo, because one of my cousins, used to hire it at the video store everytime her partner went east in his truck... We had to buy her , her own copy in the end as she wore, out the one at the shop so much so they wouldnt let her hire it out.. Tom Selleck was another , as when we lived in Northam , the only way you could view GWN was if you owned a video, as it was channel 55 in those days! But Audie Murphy was aparticular favourite when I was in my teens, as you guessed it Tv wasn`t the best in the country areas, so we had to rely on *walkins* or the Drive-in to see films. Of course some of you girls would not have remembered him he enlisted in the US Army when he was 16 to go fight in the war.....like some Australians did..

| Who was your hero/ your big crush. Posted: 6/30/2008 9:18:05 AM | | My dad sounds a bit like yours OP, and he was definitely my hero, and I do tend to be attracted to men who display the same values and characteristics. He's passed away now bless him, but when I think of a strong man I always think of him. My mother was my heroin, she was pretty, intelligent, wise and loving. She loved us unconditionally and she was always there to pick us up when we needed it. As for my first crush Hannibal Haze and Kid Curry, though I can't remember how to spell it or their real names. Now I'm in love with Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Gerard Depardieu and Marco Pierre White. | |

| Who was your hero/ your big crush. Posted: 6/30/2008 12:12:51 PM | Hmm, I didn't really have a crush growing up. Or rather if I did I can't remember them.
As for heroes... I guess that would've been ... nah. I'm drawing a blank. I was the black sheep of my family so I grew up drawing strength and inspiration from multiple people. If I had to narrow it down, there's only two people who come close: Heather& Michael. Heather I have never met in my life but have known her for around 11 years, maybe 12. Michael I have known for about 17 years. He's essentially my brother.
So I guess when I never really felt like part of my family I found my own in people who were in similar situations. And it is these people who you can consider my heroes.

| Who was your hero/ your big crush. Posted: 6/30/2008 6:35:03 PM | Has anyone seen that TV ad that says "rethink your hero's"...., ???? It is basically depicting (quite rightly in my opinion) volunteers as in ambo drivers and other vollies (selfless types) as the real 'Hero's'.
As for big crush...., well maybe if im very lucky I'll get to tell her in person !

I also remember idolising a woman who was a friend of my parents. She seemed somehow special in various ways...perhaps what some people call an aura. Whenever they'd have get togethers, she was the only adult who drank softdrink rather than wine or beer. Strange thing for a kid to notice, but every time I heard her ask for a lemonade it kind of made me realise that you could be an adult and still like what kids like, or at least, not necessarily do what other adults do. (There might have been more to her story, but that's all I registered as a kid.)
And my Grade 7 teacher. He had a wicked sense of humour and seemed this absolute font of knowledge. He could come across as stern, but he still seemed "cool"...and the boys were all in awe cos he rode a motorbike. I think everyone in his classes craved his respect.

| Who was your hero/ your big crush. Posted: 6/30/2008 8:28:17 PM | I have a heroine, surpasses all idols/hero's Ive ever had.
Teenage relative basically my sister. Lives in a broken home, one side of her family want nothing to do with her, they sought court access once but mistreated her and she knows the difference between right and wrong and told them promptly to bugger off Her other side of her family is drug effected and subjected to very small minded behaviors/attitudes. lives in poverty This heroine of mine has rosen above all that' , is a quality student and whatever she turns her hand to she succeeds, highly competitive and successful at whatever sport she plays. has a mature rational head on her shoulders, knows what right and wrong is and is completely fair and compassionate and most of all she s copmpletely respectful.
still does what kids do, not missing out on childhood, those who know this person all are impacted on.
makes me realise that with how her world s against her and how she shrugs it off, we can all pick ourselves up from very low ebbs.

| Who was your hero/ your big crush. Posted: 6/30/2008 9:31:04 PM | My heroes have always been the men and women of our Police Force. I recall seeing on the news one evening way back when I was in primary school a story about a Police Officer being assaulted whilst trying to stop a brawl amongst teenage boys. It sickened me even then. My son wants to join the force in two years or so and I really admire him for that although it worries the crap out of me.
My crush is a little embarrassing, I was sooooo in love with David Cassidy
Oh and Jamie Redfern (but please keep that quiet).

| Who was your hero/ your big crush. Posted: 7/1/2008 3:37:03 AM | in 1973-4, it was David Bowie. Call me simple, but his songs and haircut were so left of centre! So I got a friend to help me cut my hair like Bowie on Heroes, and hid it from my mum for months! no gel or wax then, had to use soap to keep the spikes up. Of course I got sprung, cos we lived in a country town, and it's just not done, and had a mum cut to punish me........ yet she doesn't blink these days if I have purple spikes or if my son has a bizarre emo cut - But I'll never forget.
love you Mr Bowie! | |

| Who was your hero/ your big crush. Posted: 7/2/2008 1:34:00 AM | Johnny Rotten was alway one of my heroes as a teenager...bit of an angry young man I was. 'I wanna destroy the passer by'... Love that line ...I think a lot of my heroes were people that questioned conventional social norms.
As for real life heroes, as in people that I actually knew, they all eventually let me down. I believe this is a good thing and a healthy part of growing up, it’s good to see people we have raised to the level of idols come back down to our level and be just human.
As for crushes I’ll never stop believing that one day I will eventually get Suzi Quatro’s phone number…them Runaways were pretty hot too.

Yeah I know thats a bit strange but I would like to point out it was definately hero worship, not an actually crush and I was only 10. A crush would make me plain weird and a bit naughty!

In my last year of primary school and into high school my whole world was David Cassidy. Wasn't he gorgeous! I never missed an episode of the Partridge Family. I also had a crush on Sidney Pointier. He always seemed so poised and dignified.

And they say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
