Have you ever dated a hearing-impaired woman before?
Posted: 7/1/2008 1:07:35 PM
Hi guys!

I'm fairly new to online dating and I'm hearing-impaired. I realized that online dating has its limits for me, but I'm alway looking for ways to get around them. Luckily for me, IM, text message, and e-mail makes communicating with friends much easier.

While I have many positive and negative experience with dating regular guys, I would like to hear about your experience (good or bad) with dating a hearing-impaired woman. If you haven't date one before, would you still date a woman who wears a hearing aid?

I would appreciate your honest input about your experience with a hearing-impaired person.

Thanks!!!

I would be comfortable dating a woman with a hearing impairment. I really would not give it a second thought.

Are you still able to communicate and express yourself? As long as there's some way of communicating (it doesn't necessarily have to be verbal) then I see no issues with it.

Thanks, Davo, for your kind comment!

Although I'm able to communicate verbally, I tend to show flirtatious gestures to my date. In fact, I'm more of a flirty lovebird than a talking parrot!

I tried but she wouldn't hear of it. Ha ha. No, really, there was a woman on here once saying this and that about how guys never contacted her and how when she contacted them they didn't even reply. So I looked at her profile and we were not that far apart in age or location or interests. I sent her an email. She deleted it without replying. Now I judge all women with hearing impairment through that experience. And brunettes, while I'm at it, because she was one of them too.

I haven't dated a hearing impaired women before but would have no problems doing so. I am actually very good friends with a married couple where she is deaf and she and I got along great, even began learning some sign language. Granted it has it's barriers, but they can be easily overcome and the right guy should be more than willing to do what it takes to make it work. Oops, I saw by your profile you're looking for a woman? Well then disregard what I said previously about the right guy if this is the case. Still, you'll do fine, whatever yo're looking for.

I lost half my hearing at birth due to some defect. Women turn the other way when I tell them about it. They act like I am a nobody when I tell them because I am not "mr. perfect". They can kiss my union butt. I would welcome the chance to date a woman with a hearing impairment. At least we will have something in common.

It would make no difference to me.

I thought all women were hearing impaired. They just don't listen. But seriously, i have. She also had a speech problem due to her hearing loss. But i thought i could make the most of it by moving in closer to her. But i think our signals got crossed. And she dumped me. How rude.

I haven't, but I certainly would. I know it sounds weird, but I like the way they talk. It does something for me. Shelley Beattie (RIP), and Marlee Matlin

Hearing impaired shouldn't be confused with deaf. Someone posted about the way *she* spoke.... ala Marlee Matlin.....

Those with a hearing impairment or those of us that are hard of hearing, (HoH) don't always have a speech impediment. I'm losing my hearing due to a disorder that can't be cured, and wear a hearing aid on occasion. I tell guys up front that there's the possibility that I could be cold stone deaf one day, but in the meanwhile, I need a guy that has more patience than most.

The HoH group can become frustrated early and tired quick because we expend so much energy trying to figure out what people are saying. And those of us that don't read lips well are twice as tired as the next after a "normal" conversation.

So it takes a special guy... he has to know his own limitations and be honest about them. Otherwise you end up with TWO frustrated individuals.

I play the drums. I have drums in my basement, and I play in a band. God, please give me a hearing-impaired woman who won't complain about the noise....

OK, seriously, we all have our health issues. Hearing-impaired is not too bad compared to a lot.

OP: Well, I never have... although that's more likely due to a lack of interest on their part.

I did once meet a woman I was interested in, and I'll admit that it did feel rather strange when she asked to trade seats with me so she could use her 'good ear'... but that's just because it was the sort of thing my mother always did. Being attracted to a woman who reminds me - in any way - of my mother is just creepy.

That said... I still don't think I'd have a major problem, depending on the severity of the hearing loss. If it was partial and not localized to one side (thus eliminating the similarity mentioned above) then no problem.

And I don't think many guys would turn down Marlee Matlin.

Op, I'd date a woman with no legs (though that limits the sexual positions a bit, but there are advantages too!)

So, unless being hearing impaired limits which sexual positions you be put into, I don't see it as a problem.

Sides, that just means I can play my 'crappy' music that nobody seems to like in the car with you!

You forgot that it also means you can say things and she won't hear them. Ya know sort of like when you call her the ball and chain or old battle axe and she looks at you and asks what did you say? And you can turn around and be like oh I was just commenting on how much I love you.

Tried it once years ago. It didn't matter (her hearing aid.) Wouldn't have known about her hearing loss if she hadn't mentioned it. I just thought she had a speech impediment it wasn't that bad. She had her head up her own ass, probably from being on the receiving end of too many sexual advances from too many guys. Her conversation revealed that she was a nutcase. Left her alone very quickly. The end.

People are people.

Curing a common misconception...

A battle-axe wasn't a weapon of midieval times. They weren't using gunpowder in medieval times and a battle-axe is an axe/firearm. One shot muzzleloader then you still have something to hack at the enemy with instead of the gun becomming a club.

battle-axe pistol : A 16th-17th century muzzleloading firearm
midwayusa.com/guntecdictionary.exe/catbrowse?CodeID=140414&Path=1.139352

The heavy axes of the middle ages weren't called battle-axes... until after the firearm showed up and people started using the label for other stuff.

you can have a fake eye, one leg, one arm, hell none at all. Physical, and I use this word loosely because cant think of anything off the top of my head, "deformities" dont affect how I view someone, they can be hearing impaired, blind, it dont matter. I'll treat and love them the same. I know you asked specifically on hearing-impaired, but just stating.

My guy friend wears hearing aids and is somewhat insecure about it. keeps his hair long to cover them up etc. I told them if your ok with them, others will be too. Which is true because he has an adoring girlfriend.

so with me babbling on, I'm completely fine with it =)
