I guess it did not work so well! Now these same politicians are blaming Bush - How does this happen?
The Democratic Congress promised many things - and has delivered nothing.

She said House Democrats are "working diligently" on legislation to address global warming challenges, and they expect to unveil their proposals by July 4, which she called "Energy Independence Day." Speaking at a League of Conservation Voters' dinner in Washington Wednesday evening, Pelosi said future generations "must be first and foremost in our minds as we consider the conclusions of the scientific community: the planet is warming, human activity is responsible, and the effects are already evident around us." She said the House will lead by example: "It is time for Congress to act on its own carbon footprint," she said, applauding Sen. Barbara Boxer for getting key offices to switch to energy efficient lighting and introducing legislation that will promote energy efficiency in federal buildings. "Just last week, I was proud to join other House leaders in announcing a 'Green the Capitol Initiative,' which will result in us operating the House in a carbon neutral manner at the earliest possible date, but certainly by the end of the 110th Congress," Pelosi said. "We will adopt innovative solutions, such as purchasing 100 percent renewable electric power, ensuring wood for our furniture is sustainably harvested, and conducting a comprehensive review of our recycling initiative," Pelosi said. She said Democrats want to convert the Capitol Power Plant to a combined heat and power system and improve the House office building ventilation system. She did not give a cost estimate. "It is so exciting to stand before you as Speaker of the House and know that because of all our hard work together, we have elected a Congress that takes real action on behalf of our beautiful planet," Pelosi said. "The days of rejecting the science of global warming are over, as are the days of standing idly by." Pelosi concluded with a reference to the Old Testament: "To minister to the needs of God's creation is an act of worship. To ignore those needs is to dishonor the God who made us." Some critics have accused liberal Democrats of putting global warming on a par with religion, just as Pelosi did on Wednesday. Rep. Ed Markey (D-Mass.), who chairs a new House Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming, said last week that climate change is a national security issue. At the inaugural hearing of the panel he chairs, Markey urged forceful action to "curb our dangerous dependence on imported oil and reduce our emissions of global warming pollution." But Rep. James Sensenbrenner, the ranking Republican on the select committee, has urged a "common-sense" approach to "big questions" about mankind's contribution to recent climate fluctuations. "I believe we should continue to foster a healthy economic climate, and at the same time, make responsible decisions and seek innovations to lessen our impact on the global climate," Sensenbrenner said in news release last month. "'Let's Be Responsible' may not grab headlines like 'The Sky is Falling,' but it has the virtue of being correct. It also recognizes that there are two climates this panel, and Congress, have to be concerned with. One is environmental, and the other is economic." Sen. James Inhofe (R-Okla.), a leading skeptic of the nation that human activity is impacting the climate, has called global warming the most "media-hyped environmental issue of all time." | |

Over 32,ooo Scientist have signed a petition calling the man made Global Warming a Hoax....It's the new Dem religeon to scare it's followers into believing that man and the USA is responsible for Global Warming when in fact Global warming is as real as the Boogie man! Does the planet from time to time change weather patterns of course it does, in the 70's it was the Ice Age the Global alarmist were screaming about, not it's warming! I wish they would make up their mind one way or another! It's getting old the same old scare tactics yet none of these people talking about Global warming seem to be chaning anything they do, with the exception of a token here or there, it's mainly another tax grab and a way to sell Carbon Foot Prints..another scam! it's makes as much sense as ant's at the bottem of a mountain digging a hole means the mountain will fall, man is but a spec on this earth even at 6 to 10 billion people were nothing more the ants. it's important to keep the earth clean and try to keep the waters clean but to say we are impacting the solar sytem is bizzar! did you somehow forget that when the Democrats threatened a filibuster in the past, the Republican threatened the "Nuclear Option". Now the Republicans prevent cloture on bills on a regular basis.
So, to answer your question, the Republicans have shut down any action so they can point at how ineffective the Democratic Congress is.

Now the Republicans prevent cloture on bills on a regular basis. WOW - then they should stop promising anything and just whine like the spineless babies that they are - I mean they just passed the FISA Bill after whining for years - EXACTLY LIKE BUSH WANTED the Bill to be written. the FISA bill, although not everything the Democrats wanted, is nothing like what Bush wanted.
Some Democrats have accepted a compromise because that's what you do when you negotiate. When the Republicans controlled both houses and committees, they would actually not invite the Democrats to committee meetings. Democrats had to search the halls of congress to find the meeting rooms, and if they did the meetings were adjourned.

That's a lie. Are you purposely lying or actually uninformed? We want to drill and they don't want to. Good legislation has been put aside by the Speaker. She's running the congress like a typical post-menopausal grandmother runs her home. She and the Democrats are holding the congress business. All she has done and with Reid, majority leader, in the senate is partisan maneuvers to keep oil prices higher. Higher prices at the pump is more sale taxes for them. Four times the revenue compared to if gas prices were at $1.50, where it is supposed to be and not $4.00. | |

So best case scenario we will save about a dollar per barrel in the year 2025. right now oil is $144 per barrell. So if you figure $1 saving per barrel, that's about TWO CENTS PER GALLON OF GAS IN 20 YEARS!
However, since ANWR has less than 1% of world oil, OPEC could simply reduce their production slightly and eliminate ANY BENEFIT from drilling in ANWR.
There's no need to expand Oil Drilling in the lower 48 because oil companies are only drilling on about 14% of their government subsidized land leases.

Asthma, especially childhood asthma has been around for decades.. my oldest son had "childhood asthma" and it resolved after 10 years.. so how does he and others like him fit into the increased asthma study? they don't.. because these children aren't taken into consideration when these "studies" are performed. Also Asthma is associated with second-hand smoke so that also needs to be taken into consideration when doing studies and there could be many other contributing factors other than fossil fuels/autos/carbon emissions that exacerbate asthma...ie.. mold, pollen..etc.. | |

Is it anything like that guest singer chic today the news was talking about... at the Mayor's Convention held in Colorado... where she, without warning just sang a version of the National Anthem which is known as the Black version of it. Yes, she is African American. She defended her position of singing the version she did. I watched the video of it and the shocked looks on the Attendees' faces ... but, they still put their hands over their hearts and got through it. Then, the backlash began. Even from other African Americans.
This is all getting friggin out of hand. Totally. Are we soon to have a hundred different 'official' versions of Independence Day... National Anthem, Pledge of Allegiance, etc. etc. I hope not!! | |

That's pathetic and not right. BBQ killing kids. This is something out of whackos begetting whackos. The thread is about Pelosi oil independence not the Iraq war withdrawal promised by Democrats in 2006. If not for filibustering, we would have been defeated in Iraq. The crazy notion that oil is responsible for bad genes on your part is preposterous.
Try leaving the planet to another where there are no plants, animals and atmosphere that triggers asthma. Don't drive and place your kid in a car. Keep him indoors and never take him during Spring and Autumn. Make sure he does not go out in the Winter. Don't use heat and electricity, it's run by oil. Go live with the Amish. They do and do not whine. They live in the pefect oil free environment and do not hinder the rest of us. But, they love God and I know you do not but they will still welcome you.
We have all kinds of viruses, pollen and food that triggers asthma. But we are not going back to the dark ages because of bad genes. We love oil. It makes life better for the entire world. It will be around forever. It makes the world function. It's all we have and there is no other fuel that will replace oil in the near future. You are stuck with it, accept it and live with it as you have been doing thus far.
Don't forget the President's veto if the Dems got their way back then. History doesn't stand still, we're not in 2006 anymore. Democrats are coming face to face with the fact that there's a war on and that Americans prefer success to failure. If the choice is between stalemate and withdrawal, as it seemed to be in November 2006, they may favor withdrawal. They pressed hard to get the Republican votes they needed to block a filibuster in the Senate and were cheered when some Republicans seemed to lean their way. Then the news out of Iraq started to get better.
The surge strategy was producing results. Anbar province, given up for lost in 2006, turned peaceful and cooperative in 2007. U.S. casualties and Iraqi civilian casualties were down.
The congressional Democrats got ready for one more push. But the testimony of General David Petraeus and Ambassador Ryan Crocker cut the ground from under their feet. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (who declared that the war was lost) and Speaker Nancy Pelosi seem to have thrown in the towel. The Democratic Congress will not use its power to appropriate to end the surge or to bring the soldiers home.
Key antiwar Democrats are now saying they would not recommend a complete withdrawal from Iraq, but would keep a residual force there to prevent Al Qaeda from using it as a safe haven. | |
