The top 5 Radio Talk Hosts are also Conservatives -
I don't think most will deny that. The Internet is dominated by Liberals. Talk Radio is the outlet for Conservatives. Pretty much a known factor.

I can't pretend that I understand why anyone with a brain would listen to this guy To hear what so many are buying into these days-- particularly while being surrounded by the current failures of the Republican party. Personally, I prefer Hannity-- all the sophistry and selective facts without the annoying delivery and futile attempts at comedy.

| Talk Radio the new media outlet Posted: 7/2/2008 5:26:42 PM | Well if that made you soit coffe maybe this will cause you to spill it all over your key board.......
NEW YORK — Fox News is poised to reclaim the title of the most-watched cable news network in the key advertising demographic in the second quarter of 2008.
The cable channel attracted the most 25- to 54-year-old viewers in prime-time this quarter, according to preliminary Nielsen Media Research data, drawing an average of 346,000 in that age group through Tuesday.
CNN, which was buoyed to first place last quarter by the presidential primaries, is back in second place with an average of 301,000 viewers in the demographic most sought after by advertisers. MSNBC is in third with 269,000. (Final numbers will be available next week.)
CNN’s win in the key demographic in the first quarter of 2008 marked the first such victory for the cable news network in more than six years, and its success with political coverage animated executives.
Bill Shine, Fox News’ senior vice president for programming, said his network regained the top spot in the second quarter because “we do better television than anybody else.”
“In the first quarter, CNN benefited from an intense Democratic race, but I think in the second quarter, after they spent millions and millions on sets and talent and graphics, it wasn’t enough for them,” he said.
Still, CNN’s viewership in the second quarter was up 24% in the key demographic, compared with the same period last year, while Fox News was down 1%. MSNBC’s audience was also up, spiking 46% year-to-year.
“The facts say it all: CNN is up 24% in prime-time, while Fox is down,” said CNN spokeswoman Christa Robinson, who added that the network did not build new sets for its political coverage. “The trends are clearly in our favor.”
Fox News rejected the characterization that its audience was eroding, noting that its viewership was essentially flat.
“The only current trend is CNN losing their momentum and battling MSNBC for second place,” Shine said.
Overall, Fox News continues to pull in the largest cable news audience, drawing an average of 1.6 million prime-time viewers so far this quarter. CNN is in second with 977,000, while MSNBC pulled in 690,000.
That's right Conservative thinking is the silent majority that will make their voice known in November.... They don't have to make a scene or protest or cry and call names they just march forward and elect the right person for the job!

I am quite certain your right....Most sites that entertain Political Message Boards tend to have more bloggers that lean left or are far left, but then again most protesters tend to be liberals and democrats, conservatives are less likely to protest or raise cain in public, they tend to make their voice heard at the polls.

I'd rather keep my soul, thanks, but if you want to get rich, all you have to do is lie and spread misinformation, so just let know, you too can be on the evil list!
It's really sad to see so much hate, backed only by more hate! Will the name calling and cheap shots ever stop? I allowed my self to engage in what I deemed as retaliation efforts returning fire if you will.... So I took a break and just read without posting for a short time to collect my better judgement, and I won't continue down that path that is distructive and unproductive! I will how ever continue to state my thoughts but to engage in name calling or school yard antics is something I will remind my self to ignore, So if in the future, I don't respond to certain posts that are engaging in hateful or less then respectful responses that keep it civil, you'll understand why.

| Talk Radio the new media outlet Posted: 7/2/2008 6:16:39 PM | Mr.Chuck,
The top two I listen to are Michael Savage & Neal Boortz usually every night.
Michael Savage is one of the most well informed people I have ever listened to and I have searched high and low to find people who can look at both sides of the issues and then give a clear concise analogy of fact verses rhetoric... Excellent choice!

As far as Fox goes.. If you like garbage, there's only one game in town. They've cornered the market.

Rush is number one for the same reason that Britney Spears was number one. Quantity over quality. I fail to see the connection? unless you mean one sings dances and takes her clothes off...while the other exposes and undresses politicians for what they really are!
As far as Fox goes.. If you like garbage, there's only one game in town. They've cornered the market.
Another interesting concept... they do handle the garbage that politicians seem to think nobody knows about? They do expose them very well it's a shame other news sources don't follow their lead then we could have several outlets that give fair and balanced reporting...

Crowing about Rush and Fox being number one is like crowing about McDonald's serving 50 billion.
It's all garbage. Really ? to who? not to 18 .1 million listeners a day in 2007 who tuned in to hear what Mr.Rush had to say...that's higher numbers then any T.V. or cable news or newspapers numbers in some cases even combined...lol

| Talk Radio the new media outlet Posted: 7/2/2008 7:31:27 PM | Here's a University of Maryland/Program on International Policy Attitudes Study that shows that Fox viewers were most likely to be misinformed about basic facts leading up to the war in Iraq than everyone else. I'm sure Rush's audience is a crossover audience.

So before you gloat about something, you should be sure it's of a quality to gloat about.

Wow someone needs to tell the Democrats in Congress what station to watch since the majority voted for the war! It would seem then they are tuned to Fox and Rush as well....

The best informed? Those who frequent PBS & NPR. WHAT ARE THEIR RATINGS?
Here's another study by Pew Research about which audiences know the most: http://people-press.org/report/319/public-knowledge-of-current-affairs-little-changed-by-news-and-information-revolutions
The audiences of comedy shows, The Colbert Report and the Daily Show placed highest, and News Hour with Jim Lehrer (PBS) placed near the top and both above Rush and O'Reilly.
Fox placed almost at the bottom. Gee, who do you think Republicans frequent?
So before you gloat about something, you should be sure it's of a quality to gloat about.

| Talk Radio the new media outlet Posted: 7/2/2008 9:19:51 PM | | Wish I had time to listen to talk radio I'd like to be able to tell my grand kids someday that I listened to the number one talk radio host in America. Whatever Rush is doing is working for him.. gotta admire someone who is successful like that even if you don't agree with him. I listened to Dr. Laura a long, long time ago always liked it when she told women to get rid of the loser! I imagine Rush is telling it like it is and funny thing is people don't like to hear it. | |
|
| Talk Radio the new media outlet Posted: 7/2/2008 9:43:30 PM | | I'm not surprised Rush is as popular as he is. There are a lot of people who find comfort in having someone tell them what to think. Saves them from having to do the thinking themselves. | |
|
| Talk Radio the new media outlet Posted: 7/2/2008 10:45:30 PM | | My question is how much pain pills does 400 million buy? No, but seriosuly I don't understand how people like Rush Limbaugh or even people on the left making that much can speak for the average Americain. | |
|
| Talk Radio the new media outlet Posted: 7/2/2008 11:19:00 PM | Can you give one example
Sure:
For example, liberals become indignant when you question their patriotism, but simultaneously work overtime to give terrorists a cushion for the next attack and laugh at dumb Americans who love their country and hate the enemy. And taxes are like abortion, and not just because both are grotesque procedures supported by liberals. You're for them or against them.Taxes go up or down, government raises taxes or lowers them. But liberals will not let the words "abortion" or "tax hikes" pass their lips. Why is this? It's also a worldwide leftists mantra, why? Same egg?
I use to listen to Rush - I considered him an entertainer and comedian. The above is exactly the same amusing absurdest commentary Rush so often repeated. I finally go bored with it, so I stopped listening. It never occurred to me at the time that people would take the things he said seriously. I figured he was just joking.
Yikes...more insults to a fine topic. Why is this? It's true what the poster at top says about such people. Anger, hostility, insults and arrogance, what a shame. Kindergartners behave a lot more mature.
Anger, hostility, insults and arrogance. Here are some of Rush's bits (from wikipedia):
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jargon_of_The_Rush_Limbaugh_Show
Addadictomy: Slang for phalloplasty (genital surgery sometimes performed on female-to-male transsexuals).
Algore: Former Vice President Al Gore. This nickname was originally used in a parody of Count Dracula involving "Count Taxula" (voiced so as to sound like Bill Clinton) and his loyal servant "Algore" (as in Igor). The nickname "Algore" was used extensively on the show during the U.S. presidential campaign in 2000.
Atlanta Urinal-Constipation: The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Baba Wawa: Barbara Walters. Originated in an early Saturday Night Live sketch in which Gilda Radner impersonated Walters, exaggerating Walters' distinctive vocal style.
Barbara Streisand: A replacement for the phrase, "BS," itself a replacement for the phrase, "Bull Shit." Typical usage: "That's a bunch of Barbara Streisand."
Battered Liberal Syndrome: Analogous to battered person syndrome, a phenomenon in which lower-class people and racial minorities continue to overwhelmingly support liberals and Democrats despite their long history of failing to effect meaningful change for those constituents.
Bella Pelosi: Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA). The term is a takeoff on Bella Abzug, a prominent feminist, as well as Bela Lugosi, the late actor best known for his portrayal of Count Dracula.
Ben Affliction: Ben Affleck......
.........This list goes on and on and on. I only got to the B's before I got bored with it. Lots of childish name-calling. Andy Kaufman was a lot funnier than Limbaugh - in my opinion, anyway.

| Talk Radio the new media outlet Posted: 7/2/2008 11:27:17 PM | That's funny and witty Hank. I should listen to Limbaugh more often. I'm missing out at some good stuff there. | |

This is a sidenote on Citations from Wiki. The news this week had on a story about a study out of Scotland which stated that sites like Wiki (which can be edited by the public) are causing students to have falling grades. Many are suggesting that we go back to using real books, i.e. the Encyclopedias, etc.
Edit:
But, I'm not defending Rush L. He is outspoken for sure. As are most TV/Radio/Internet Commentators. There will be those who are offended by any and/or all of them. That's the way it goes.

Perhaps. However, the thread topic doesn't justify any further research other than a click on Wiki. I've listen to the show many times and have read one of his books. The partial list I posted is accurate.

| Talk Radio the new media outlet Posted: 7/2/2008 11:45:09 PM | | I have no problem seeing Rush land the deal he did. Let the free market determine what he's worth and if he has an audience to support it more power to him. He is no different from a famous athlete, famous singer, or movie star commanding large salaries. They all have audiences that will fill their stadiums, fill their concerts, or watch their movies. Rush's audience just happens to be through a radio. | |

That's impossible because that statement came from me today and it's a succinctly description and not absurd of liberals. You are not being truthful and lost creditability by giving Rush credit for something I thought of and posted.
Perhaps I wasn't clear (though, to me, I was). I wasn't inferring the quote was Rush's. I was inferring the quote was the same type of comedic commentary Rush often makes to entertain his audience. I assume Rush Limbaugh was pretty amused when he first realized people were buying into his extremist rhetoric. Of course, in time, he himself bought into it.
Thanks for sharing Rush's funny and sweet descriptions of some of our out-whacked Democrats.
So, when Conservatives make up childish names it's funny and sweet. But if Liberals do it...
Anger, hostility, insults and arrogance, what a shame. Kindergartners behave a lot more mature.
What was it Rush once said? Something about taking on the liberals with half his brain tied behind his back. I need only an eighth of my brain to respond to these comments. As usual in these threads, conservatives are so easy that I'm bored now...
