Rumours abound the former Prime Minister may have passed away tonight. I believe this will cause some strange and wildly differening reactions.

Although I don't hold any ill will against the Lady and if the rumours are true then RIP and condolences to her family and friendds. I would have to say that much of what she did during her time in office was against what I believe the principles of this country should be about.

I was one of Maggies millions for a while, even though I had done exactly what she lectured us upon, I got some qualifications but still her policies had virtually bankrupt this country.

On top of that she stole the countries assets and sold them at well below market worth, we are now all suffering from that with the continual missmanagement and profiteering from Gas, Electricity, the Rail Service etec etc. yes they were also missmanaged when in public ownership but the profits went to the people not the shareholders.......

So RIP Margeret Thatcher but I for one will not be shedding a tear.

WTF are u talking about, the UK would not be what is is today without her.

We would still be bending over for the unions and the UK's financial place in the World would also not exist.

Take a look at what Blair has done with his fat mate Brown and the current economic state it's in. Trust me lady when inflation hits 25% by Xmas u will eat your words!!

It is a sad day today.

It was on a Press Association wire allegedly earlier this evening then withdrawn prompto.

As I said rumours abound and have seen it on several forums, so who knows but can't understand why they would hush that particular news up.

Oh and the Gent a few posts above. I don't disagree about the Unions in most respects but do about the manner in which it was achieved. Scargill was an egotistical pratt though and a money grabbing git who was paid throughout the strike! Additionally our worldwide financial activities would still be fine, the financial establishments would have ensured that.

vvvvv No it was definitely Thatcher, not Major, I asked Edwina.

Maybe they were doing the practice thing - where they pretend something major like this has happens and they have to time their responses with regards to output on commentary, obits, views, etc.., but it went live rather than just practice? Have searched few areas - cannot find anything... tis odd.

I'd rather Mrs Thatcher be back in charge, she wasn't scared to make a decision & was a tough tough woman.

These idiots in charge now & previously (Blair as you've twisted my arm to name names) helped ruin the great work that Mrs Thatcher put in to make this country what it once was.

If theses rumours are untrue then, she could still do a better job than the labour party.

If the news is true, then R.I.P. & God rest your soul Mrs T. This country was a better place while you were charrge.

Reguardless of your politics she was one remarkable and formidable women who had no hidden agenda or corrupt thoughts other than what she thought was for the benifit in the long term for this country, but in the short term for the conservatives.
Which is quite a contradictory statement in a politically understandable and exceptable way!

Without doubt there are going to be people happy and people sad at this news, thats because we are a democracy. You love her or you hate her. But one thing I think cannot be denied of Mrs Thatcher was that she made us believe again.

We believed we could share in the wealth and power we thought only few people had access to. And we do.

She gave us all the ability and desire to own our own homes and most of us now do. It is our own greed which has led to the severe over valuing and our children not being able to afford to buy. Myself I liked the council having homes that young families could afford to rent knowing that they had a good landlord and had a great sense of community and togetherness. Or was that just the estate I grew up on?

She gave us the chance to own shares in the large companies we saw as money making machines and thought we could share that wealth too, and we do or rather did. It was our short term greed which cashed them in and gave the ownership right back to the large financial institutions again. We let the fat cats get fatter.

She also made us believe we could be an empire again with the ridiculous war in the Falklands. Crowds cheered as the fleet sailed just as they did when they returned. Just like when we had an empire. The fact that so many people were killed unecessarily didn't matter becasue we won. We were so grateful we re-elected her when she had been so far behind in the poles she was going to lose for what she had done to our civil liberties and our unions. Unions who represent our best interests and not the bosses or the government and policemen in helmets with trunchions not stab vests and AK47's.

Ah well, money always wins in the end.

RIP Mrs Thatcher.

the other left.... glad its not just me.. i am quite shocked at the joy anothers death seems to be bringing some of the people on here...

i could understand a little better if she had authorised the execution and torture of thousands...not about to name drop , but you now what "great" leaders i am talking about surely ...

but hell... she is someones daughter..wife..niece..mother..grandma..etc etc... i will remain neutral in political debates ...

but to be joyous of someones death.. ouch

Never have I disagreed with a comment so completly, IF she is dead then this is a tragic lose to the nation as she was probably the best prime minister this country has seen since churchill. She stood up for Britain and stood up for our rights, she didn't go crying to the european union and she certainly would have done a lot more to keep this country great instead of the downhill turn we have taking since blair/brown era.
She made this country great again, after the terrible state it was in the 70's, she drove the us all forward, she made sure we were proud to be british....

old enough to remember rubbish piling up in the streets and secondary picketing, like someone goes on strike and all their friends go out, had it sort of explained to me in a comic :)

never been in a union, had some guy tell me about it and then had to admit his union could not help me with anything, but it was a great thing to join....

noticed nu labour did not scrap all these laws, possibly as they worked ?

recall she won a £7 billion rebate from the EU, Tony Bliar gave it all away on the potential promise to look at some stuff, that was looked at and disregarded

As for the poster wanting to dance her on grave, what a miserable old sour puss...

Thatcher did a lot more than Blair and Brown have and are doing! Look at the mess the country is in, since Blair was in power.
At least Thatcher made strict decisions and stuck to them. Much respect to the woman i say!

If Mrs T (or someone with her strength) was in charge of the country, there wouldn't be the mindless murders of youths that are going on today.

We wouldn't have so many illegal immigrants finding their way in to Britain & the NHS wouldn't be in the state it is in

When she was PM she was a tough but a very fair woman & loved the country she was running & still loves to this day. I bet she really hates what the Labour government has done by the way they've just let us fall into the gutter & be washed away by the rains of misery. All because she was more man than the men that have run the place in recent history.

We've had Blair who was a yes sir no sir man to the yanks, Brown who's got more chance of becoming Mr Universe than he has of becoming a good politician & we had old Dr Livingstone, who spent more time lining his own pockets with the congestion charge than he did doing good things for the population of London.

And has for the Mr & Mrs of the cabinet (Yvette Cooper & Ed Balls......these two are more like Cannon & Balls). All she seems to ever do is get her face splashed all over the Pont & Cas express just to satisfy her over-rated ego.

If she's doing a job for the government, then move them out & keep them down there & let someone do a proper job in their constituances.

This country needs more like Mrs Thatcher, Enoch Powell & tough hearted people who love this land, not ones ho want to surrender it at the first opportunity to some scumbag that comes along.

Rant over & off my soapbox.

Oh one last thing.......

WE LOVE YOU MRS. T.

What a mature post, I'm so glad that our country is made up of people with empathy like you. Fortunately our government isn't lead by people like you because you clearly have no clue... :-)

End of the day she's a person, if you want to go and dance on someones grave then tbh, you need to get a life you sad sad people, whats happend in the past is in the past you cannot change that. Forgive and forget, from my understanding, thatcher did both good and bad to this country, but as per usual with all politicians its only the negative that's remembered.

Maggie ..the iron lady...was the personification of the times I grew up in as a teenager. Dead or not ..it's been a laugh being privvy to her domestic troubles, what with her grey hubby, dodgy son Mark and ultimate complainant daughter who wrote a biography of the great one..

Who was that other suspect character in UK politics who slept with whatisname...I think she was fighter for the cause of informing people that they ought not eat raw eggs.....the salmonella lady !!

Maggie Thatcher was a champion..the forebearer of the ilk of ladies who are capable and strong/determined and all that other stuff..fabulous woman/daughter /mother..and wife....Harbinger of the punk ethos..cool lady.
