| how fantastic!!! Posted: 7/14/2008 7:12:06 AM | | lol milly ~ I just couldn't bring myself to watch more than 5 mins ~ it does my head in. Jerry Springer hosting it is quite fitting don't you think?? hahahahaha. On the news flash they said one of the girls had taken a tumble ..... that is earth shattering news apparently!! good loorrddd. | |
|
| how fantastic!!! Posted: 7/14/2008 5:56:31 PM | | Jerry Springer is more suited to hosting figure skating competitions. | |
|
| how fantastic!!! Posted: 7/14/2008 7:56:35 PM | Ive never watched it...., If I had seen it, I think I would be distracted for a short while..., enough to walk away shaking my head. It,s likely to be...., an all a#se about 'The Beauty Myth' meets the worst excesses of 'the cult of celebrity' meets 'media hype'...., I would call it a 'Cluster F#ck' (up).
Could there ever be a 'genuine person' (male and/or female) who wins..., Mr. and/or M(r)s. Universe ??? It would'nt work ....., no networks would buy it....., because it would be assumed that the public would'nt buy it...., or would they??
Now theres a forum topic ...., a reality TV contest for ordinary, genuine 'nice people'...., appealing on the inside ??

| how fantastic!!! Posted: 7/15/2008 2:03:22 PM | apparently the whole thing was filmed like at 10.00am in the morning so that it would go live to the US - enough said! those women are freaks (meant in the nicest possible way of course)!! | |
|
| how fantastic!!! Posted: 7/15/2008 8:08:09 PM | | How can you be so cruel? Those beautiful girls all hoping for "World Peace" and "being kind to our environment" and they just happen to be drop dead gorgeous and look hot in a tiny bikini. | |
|
| how fantastic!!! Posted: 7/15/2008 9:27:49 PM | | Being a woman myself. I am not agreeing with the drop dead gorfeous thing..well..not with all of them anyway.. but i love to look at their gowns . not so much there swim suits. there bodies i thought were average. its just that when a man see s a woman being slim he goes over board with that.. but looking through a womans eyes..i guess that society says that they can wear them because they are slim..all women who can keep there weight down are the lucky ones .. because that is what men prefer.. so why dont they with any woman.. i think that every woman is beautiful..but i think that to understand that you would have to be female.. in my opinion.. | |

| how fantastic!!! Posted: 7/16/2008 1:39:57 AM | Ridiculous.
All the girls are pretty, but they are not the best looking, the brightest, the most academic, the most sporting gifted, the most of anything really. It is a publicity/marketing thing. Good for them, but it holds no deeper meaning.

Pardon? The contestants in Miss Universe have average bodies? Well thats the rest of us totally screwed then I would imagine. Maybe I have my eyes in my head backwards and cant see the average about them.
About to go and change my profile to average!

| how fantastic!!! Posted: 7/16/2008 2:00:18 AM | I haven't seen it for years but I do have a soft spot for the Miss Universe pagaent. When I was a kid, my Mum and I used to watch it together. It was always on quite late at night but I'd be let stay up so Mum and I could have a girlie night admiring the dresses and guessing who would win. I know it's corny...but I kinda like it.
I've heard it said that it sets the women's movement back several decades...but I think women should be able to be whatever type of woman they choose, and if they choose to parade their stuff in pretty frocks and 'kinis, give a speech about world peace, and raise some charity bucks for a chance to win a treasure trove of prizes...then more power to 'em.
|
| how fantastic!!! Posted: 7/16/2008 3:04:45 AM | No problems with it,i don't watch it.Who wants to watch girls parade around in bikini's and pretty dresses.
Can't believe i just said that:meno: give myself a swift uppercut.I must be getting old or something.

| how fantastic!!! Posted: 7/16/2008 4:52:38 AM | I couldnt care less hehehehehe maybe thats my attitude atm.
As for the women being average some of them are quite pretty facially without the slimness and others well not so pretty faces still slim nice bods tho.
Hey Roses I could be slim too - if I could be ass-ed to do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
|
| how fantastic!!! Posted: 7/16/2008 5:22:05 AM | We are more interested in what Angelina Jolie does for charity than Princess Anne. Beauty sells.
The 'beauty' standards of the times is reflected in pageants. In the 60s women were a bit 'chunkier'. Women in pageants now though, are expected to be more than just a pretty face.
I'd love to be as tall as some contestants so I could eat more!
|
| how fantastic!!! Posted: 7/20/2008 2:16:14 AM | I'm with Hilly on this one!!!
Those girls have far from average bodies!!!
I don't even own a cossi, let alone spray hairspray on my butt to make sure it doesn't ride up my ass!
They may not be bright, but if I woke tomorrow and had a body like that, I'd quit my job!!!
|
| how fantastic!!! Posted: 7/20/2008 8:38:48 PM | I watched a little of it. Most of them had nice bodies, though a few (Australia's contestant being a good example) were far too thin. Some of the girls were stunning, but not all. There were quite a few that I found not only average but unattractive. And a few that looked ordinary on the catwalk but really good when being photographed. Most women look better smiling, but not all, so a few shone better in more serious expressions.
My favourite was Spain. She was the only one who was trying to be "sexy" and seemed to be having fun, rather than just pasting on a fake smile. Also, I'm pretty sure she used to be a man. :D

| how fantastic!!! Posted: 7/21/2008 12:40:51 AM | | I reckon the miss universe contest would make a fortune if you ever got people at home to send in there thoughts on what the girls are wearing and make up, etc. You could put all the respondents into a draw and someone wins a holiday with plenty of money left over for the organizers out of it. Just think how many people there would be at home criticizing everything about them so may as well cash in i say. | |

| how fantastic!!! Posted: 7/21/2008 5:56:41 AM | I flicked the tv across a couple of times. Just caught the USA girl falling flat on her 'ass'. too bad that. I wondered how many of the girls didn't have implants, not too many I suspect looking at the still pics. (I prefer natural) I mean do they expect us to take it seriously with Springer? Why even do the show in overseas if you have American hosts and stage it at 10am for ratings in the USA. Might as well do it there. Just remember though, no matter how hot the girl looks, somewhere in the world she's a pain in the ass to someone. | |
