Posted: 7/14/2008 8:14:57 PM | LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- Los Angeles County District Attorney Steve Cooley has asked the California parole board to deny Charles Manson follower Susan Atkins' request for compassionate release from prison. Susan Atkins, Califorina's longest-serving female inmate, who was convicted of eight 1969 murders, is terminally ill. Cooley says Atkins' crimes alone warrant denial of the request. The district attorney notes that Atkins personally stabbed pregnant actress Sharon Tate, tasted her blood and used it to write the word "Pig" on the victim's door. The parole board meets Tuesday.
As long as I live I will never forget this case........I lived in the area at the time. IMHO there are some crimes commited that do not deserve compassion to the perp`s.............What say you?

When she committed the murders, she was terminally ill also.......... mentally if in no other way. She is exactly where she should be and will get people to give her compassion that are like her in a great many ways... I say leave her where she is, then leave her roting body till it turns to dust then vacume it up and put it in a pile of doggie poop and set it on fire!

| Manson follower wants compassion........................... Posted: 7/14/2008 10:17:50 PM | Let's put this into perspective.
In 1969, what southeast Asian country was being bombed to shit by the US? During that time, how many pregnant women were blown to bits and burned alive?
Of course none of the mayhem is good. I'm just saying.
For the past 7 years the US has been occupying what Mideast nation, in the course fo which occupation many thousands of civilians have been maimed and killed?
I would never excuse one crime in light of another. But I am slower to condemn, somehow it seems odd, that the same people who would gladly support the insanity of unjust and illegal war get upset by the occasional murder in the suburbs.
OK, lets put it back out of proportion again.

Former prosecutor Stephen R. Kay opposes Atkins' release. Kay, 65, said he had attended about 60 parole hearings related to the killings over the years and spent a lot of time with the victims' families, witnessing their suffering.
"Because of Susan Atkins' actions, I just can't see her being released," he said. "I haven't really seen that she has actual remorse for the victims' families."

Cooley argues that Atkins "has failed to demonstrate genuine remorse and lacks insight and understanding of the gravity of her crimes."
Now she asking for mercy when at the time she did not show mercy.

Actress Sharon Tate, 8 1/2 months pregnant with the son of director Roman Polanski, begged one of the knife-wielding killers to spare her life. The attacker was Susan Atkins, and her response was cold and unequivocal.
"She asked me to let her baby live," Atkins told parole officials in 1993. "I told her I didn't have mercy for her." Almost 40 years later, it's Atkins who is asking for mercy.
Why show mercy to a person now? Just because she has a terminal illness?
Atkins' death sentence was automatically commuted to a life term after the state Supreme Court overturned capital punishment in 1972.
She is getting suport from the system to allow this parole. It all just because she is terminal ill. Everyone is felling sorry for her in her condition.
Her condition should play no role in her parole.

By your thinking, you could have a very valid point.... Let's send her over seas to let's say......... a country that we are at war with and bomb the first and last place she steps!
Oh wait... or we could send her there with an unloaded gun and give her 40 days to make peace or let the enemy have her!
Good thought.. yeah those thoughts are exactly why we have horrific murders on our homeland and feel sorry for the criminals... ohhhhhh good points there buddy!
Heck, lets send all the murders over seas to live... we can withdraw our troops and see just how long they are loved and compassion is felt for them for a real crime of being................ DIFFERENT and having different beliefs! Wonder what kind of compassion and forgiveness they will have when they take over our country?
Sure do like the way you think!!! That was 40 years ago, and she sure can't be as evil and angry and willing to do those types of things again for Manson... or yet another terrorist....... Hell, lets just let all the murders and such go and fill the jails with flowers!!! now there's a thought.......

She will have to find it elsewhere as far as I am concerned. My father was against the death penalty, he always said that perpetrators should spend their lives making little rocks out of big rocks. I am the survivor of a violent crime that left my husband dead and I can tell you......you NEVER EVER forget.

Sharon Tate might be a grandmother by now. And as has been posted, I think there has only been one of the Manson Family to have shown remorse all this time, and it wasn't Susan Atkins. (I think it was Squeaky Fromme?)

| Manson follower wants compassion........................... Posted: 7/15/2008 3:25:56 AM | Let the **** rot. I can only hope that the cancer is painful.
She showed no mercy to her victim, killing both Sharon and her unborn baby. How does a person stab a pregnant woman? What goes on inside your head to do this?
This woman deserves no sympathy from anyone on earth. I truly hope there is a heaven and hell because if there is, there probably exists a special place in hell for the likes of her.
She might be unhappy in life, but perhaps it will be worse in death for her. I hope so anyway.
God bless to Sharon Tate and her baby.

I wonder if the state just doesn't want to bear the cost of treatment for her??
It strikes me that by releasing her, she's not going to get hired anywhere, she won't have medical insurance, and would probably die VERY quickly...the only question in my mind is How Many would she try to take With Her?

| Manson follower wants compassion........................... Posted: 7/15/2008 10:16:24 AM | ^^^^Yep!
Shes terminally ill. She made a mistake almost 40 years ago. Rage, anger and revenge solve nothing. Forgiveness is an oft neglected virtue. Terminally ill? I'd agree with that. Terminally mentally deranged. Nope, sorry ~ I might be a civil rights freak, but her rights were terminated when she choose to commit some of the most brutal crimes of that time-frame. She's right where she is supposed to be and she should be there until she isn't. This is karma ~ a slow, lonely death.

If Californian's weren't such wimps none of the Manson Family would still be alive. Not all of us are wimps. The majority of fellow Californians I know believe that this whole "family" should have fried years ago instead of supporting their heinous arses.
This is karma ~ a slow, lonely death. Exactly.
She has a husband and if she's released, she will live in my area.

| Manson follower wants compassion........................... Posted: 7/15/2008 1:32:26 PM | She was spared the death penalty!
She was allowed to marry in prison!
She was allowed conjucal visits in prison!
Yep I'd say she has gotten ALOT more compassion than Sharon Tate so I hope she enjoys the rest of her days in prison before her final journey to Hell!

| Manson follower wants compassion........................... Posted: 7/15/2008 2:09:23 PM | I can't see that some compassion can't be administered here. Do we need to stoop to her level? Or do we rise above it and set the example? She is either going to stay in a prison hospital and get the treatment to extend her life, at taxpayers expense, or get out and probably not get any treatment or very little, and pass away faster. Either way it is a death sentance. Of course they could set her up in Charlies cell and he could watch his "follower" pass away before his eyes. | |

| Manson follower wants compassion........................... Posted: 7/15/2008 2:33:17 PM | | Oh well for her. Maybe she shouldn't have assisted in the murders of eight people. She certainly showed no compassion then and given the nature of the crimes coupled with what must be an inherent flaw in her brain , I'd say that she's exactly where she belongs. For those that say "an eye for an eye and the whole world is blind" or something along those lines...okay, she can go and live in your house. Just remember that she probably has admirers of her crimes that might stop by. | |
