Anybody tried this?

http://www.perfectpullup.com/

I have "The Perfect Pushup" bars, and I love them.

I was wondering if anyone on here has, or has tried "The Perfect Pullup?" What did you think about it? I'm really considering getting it.

I fail to see why it would be any more effective than simply using the bar to do pullups in the regular way.

I can see these being helpful for just some general upper body strength, but if you want to focus on particular muscles, you won't be able to because the handles will be rotating to the position you find easiest, which kinda defeats the purpose.

.............................................................................................

I made a rollerboard in the back yard a few years ago and use it periodically. Basically you lay on your back
on a 4 foot long trolly, and pull yourself up the board with a couple of rubber handles that are attached to the top
with rope and a couple of snaps.

The end of the board used to be attached to the fence, but now is attached it to a post for convenience. In either case
it is adjustable to quite a few heights, the greater the angle the more difficult. If you wish, you can calculate the weight
you are lifting by multiplying the grade (rise over the run) times your body weight and the weight of the trolley.

A few days ago I did 74 pullups on it, going a steady pace in 5 minutes. This morning I did 20 slow ones in 5 minutes.
I like it a lot and it's great fun to use. You can do very strict pullups and do them at any pace that you like.

High quality steel construction
supports up to 300lbs

Ooh! Sounds like the ideal device! No hang on... when I do pullups with a 20kg plate I would break it. I think I am going to pass on this latest fad device.

Frankly, not many people out of the general population can do pullups. Silly devices like this are not going to change it, either you are going to do them or you are not. Same goes for any other garden contruction efforts from people that lift weights when running cross country.

If you want to do an exercise, go and do it. Do not look for fancy tv gadgets, do not look for excuses, do not look for 'ideal energy levels', just go and do the exercise.

I know that "Perfect Pullup" looks really gimicky, but like I said, I have those "Perfect Pushup" bars and I absolutely love them.

My fencing coach used to make us do pushups until we were practically blue in the face. I thought regular pushups on the floor were bad. When I got those "Perfect Pushup" bars, I thought I'd died and gone straight to He - LL. While they make the push up itself more difficult, they make it much, much easier on the wrists.

Don't know how many pullups I can do, because I've not had access to a pullup bar since elementary school. I remember pullups sucking even more than pushups, but because I love my "Perfect Pushup" bars so much, I'm intrigued as heck by that "Perfect Pullup" bar.

I do knuckle pushups, I thought about getting perfect pushups but I don't know. I don't see much advantage using Perfect Pushups if I am doing knuckle pushups.

Or instead of looking for fancy ways to do them, then all kinds of excuses as to why you are not doing them, you could always just go and do pushups. Crazy, I know, but I have heard rumours it works.

Just wait a couple more months, these are going to be joining their perfect Pushup cousins on the shelves of stores. (Fitness Depot) You say you love your Pushups, well, even if they are a gimmick to some, you like them and they have you doing pushups. I think that alone is a plus then. Give the Pullups a try when you can get them at a store, if you don't care for them, take them back then. You'll know at least in the first 2 weeks you got them. They'er doing the TV rounds right now, after a few months they hit some stores. But, as I think, if something can get you excited and wanting to do it, isn't that worth it alone? A gimmick maybe, but it also got you out doing it. That's no gimmick.

I don't see how this helps. The rotation was decent (though ineffective) with the perfect pushup.... but with the perfect pullup it's seemingly useless.

For $40 the "Perfect Pushup" is a bit of a rip-off. They're just like regular pushup bars that you can get for $10. The "rotating action" does have some merit in that it targets a wider set of muscles, but it's not as effective as using different pushup variations.

Pushup bars are great because they lift your upper body a bit further off the ground, and give you a better range of motion. I used my pushup bars for a bit and they helped my regular pushups a LOT (no more dead spots).

I'd recommend a regular pullup bar.

agreed- If its a fitness product with the "As seen on TV" logo, its probably about as effective as the Gazelle or that ab belt that uses electrical shocks to "melt the fat away and build abdominal muscle"

I work with Fitness Depot and I really do hope we don't start to carry this. We do sell the Perfect Pushup, and I don't believe in it which is why I don't sell it to people. When customers come in for the pushup...I typically get them to buy a pair of dumbbells for half the price so they can do elevated pushups + a wide range of other exercises.

The solution to all of your problems, gymnastic rings:

http://www.ringtraining.com/

That's not the only place to get them. I bought myself a set of rings a couple of years ago - best investment in fitness equipment ever. You can set them low and do push ups, put them higher to do dips, even higher and do pull ups, muscle ups, L-sits, etc etc.

Exactly.

That could mean that it's the pull-up bar in that advert... y'know, with the "Someone does something clever/someone does something stupid to balance it out." one, where the dude puts the pull-up bar in a door frame and bangs his head. Tried to find it to show you, but I can't remember what it was advertising.
