CAMPING...WHOS UP FOR IT?
Posted: 7/16/2008 7:05:58 AM
I Would really like to get a bunch of us together here on POF and head out for a weekend of Camping, Maybe some hiking and Canoeing!
I haven't camped now in 3 yrs..this being my 3rd summer not getting out there and ruffing it for a few dayz..So I'm determined to get away this summer.
All my Friends do the Cottage thing, They graduated..lol..I , However still ache for the
fresh air, moist ground and flicking frogs off my tent in the morning and nothing beats Baileys and coffee first thing in the morning!HMMMMMMMMM...lol
I just wanted to see what kind of Interest there would be out there for a weekend get- away!
Surely there are some peeps on here that are like myself..craving the great outdoors?

What I thought would be Awesome , would be to see first what kind of Interest we can muster up here..Then once we get a group together, pick a weekend in Aug and head out..No destination in mind..just hit the road and where ever we end up that will be
our great POF CAMPING ADVENTURE!
Anyone GAME?

Think About it..We may not know one Another but one thing we would all share in common is the LOVE FOR THE GREAT OUTDOORS!

If I was to go to a PofF event, this is the kind I would join in.

It has been a while since I have slept outside.

Nothing beats camping I find. Last year spent a week in luxury hotels in New York City and Quebec City. Was OK, but the following week my son , daughter and I took the tent and headed for the Pinery. Remember thinking the first night, having a beer and watching the sun set on Lake Huron, this is so much more fun!

Sounds like a great week end, type of POF meeting that I would enjoy. Just bought a supply of Moose Head left over from a stag and doe too, I hear the green bottles don't give it a long shelf life, lol, be a way of making sure it doesn't waste.

I work a lot of week ends though, so it depends on which one. Last week , I have booked up at Pan Cake Bay, Lake Superior , labour day week end will be the Lemans Race at Mosport. So probably will miss it.

Great idea though!

Ive spoken to a mod and I'm in the process now of getting a camping weekend event hosted...I'm thinking Aug 15,16, 17, and 18th...
So keep these dates open on your calendar...

It would be Awesome to get 20 or so of us together..Total Strangers enjoying the great outdoors!...Nothing beets watching the sunset with the fire crackling and a cold brewskie in ur hand!
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH....
Tag this post so you can keep track of the updates in the days to follow..
First I gotta figure out how to create the event page( might take awhile!...lol)

I'm Going to do some checking around tomorrow and find a campsite..
I would prefer to just wing it and pitch a tent anywhere but we may end up trespassing on someones land, and a fistful of other things too could go wrong...so to be safe , I will locate a campground and when I do I will post details...Mrstrygurl..Thanks for info
I will look into that campground as well tomorrow!

I'm going camping to Algonquin Park with some friends at the end of August (Labour Day weekend). If you haven't been up that way, I highly recommend it. It's about 3+ hours from the GTA, but well worth the trip. Carpool with some people to save on gas. Go for a couple of nights, you shouldn't have to pack too much.

This year will be my 18th year same weekend in Algonquin Park. I love it up there.

I love camping. I haven't done it in years but I really do enjoy spending the day swimming mostly, or playing volleyball or hiking and then helping to get a great dinner together. I have a gorgeous, portable netted gazebo I set up. Voila! Instant kitchen!
Night time by the fire, laughing and telling stories...roasting marshmallows...waking up early and catching a sunrise. Yeah, that's sounds like a great idea, Bones.
Looks as though most of you are not near me, so it appears that I'm geographically challenged.
I'll have to raise a glass of Bailey's one of those mornings, in your honour!
Enjoy!

It depends on what some call roughing it.I used to go on Crownland up past Temagami. Its afew hours drive but well worth it.If anyone likes fishing theres lots of fishing and wilderness. A beach for those that like to go swimming. And if your lucky you might see a moose early in the morning or even the odd black bear,Loon`s can be called in within picture range.A sight to see thats for sure. And nothing like camping on the Canadian Shield.

Pinehurse WOW. now that brings back memories. We used to go there every weekend in the summer with the Dutch/Canadian club. Even had my first "real" kiss there

If I can get Woods to replace my tent by then, that would be fun. I'll keep checking the post!

Pinehurst , I had a seasonal there about 10 years ago. Met a lot of great people there, went there just this week for a night. Also camped for the first time at Long Point on Lake Erie this week , great beach and fun time , {not including one of my kids who enjoyed telling people he was an Australian ( great accent he does!), his best line was checking out the base ball game in tonono, watched the Blue Robins,, play, sheesh, brat ! )

Tried to get reservations for tomorrow, found the Provincial availability site showed most Parks in S. Ontario had very little vacancies. Rhondeau ( excuse my spelling) shows a lot of sites available, so think I will head there. Have not camped there since I was a kid.

just got back from bracebridge, was camping from tuesday til today... wonderful time - even with two thunderstorm filled nights and the resultant unplanned for *indoor (canvas) pool*..

there's nothing like the outdoors to renew and refresh (and provide dot-to-dot activities on flesh with bug-bites, hehe ;))

i love it!

Camping and thunderstorms. Wild. I love it. Nothing like trying to sleep at 3a.m. comfortable in your tent, and you can hear a storm approaching, but don't know if it's going to pass or not. Then all of a sudden, a cloud opens up and unleashes its fury. Like I said, wild.
