| The "Holding up a Beer/Cheers" Photos.... Posted: 7/19/2008 7:38:12 PM | Does anyone else find the pics of someone holding up an alcoholic beverage to be a bit.......bleh? Should they be subtitled "Come wreck your life with me!" at the bottom? I mean, I live straight-edge, that is, I dont do the alkey-hall anyway. But even when I DID drink, I drank responsibly, and when I saw pics like this....I thought, "You drink, well fine.....but is there really the need to advertise?" I keep lookin for a pic of someone hunched over the Bemis but nobody has THOSE pics in their prof's. Nobody holding up Big Macs in both hands. Nobody holding up a fat stogie, or a pack of Bratwurst. Whats with the beer props? I'm gonna take a pic holding up a can of Tahitian Treat and throw it in the profile....

| The Holding up a Beer/Cheers Photos.... Posted: 7/19/2008 8:04:21 PM | Some people found alcohol to be the social lubricant of life and therefore have the most fun when drinking in groups.
Some people are barflies but believe they are too good for the people in the bar.
Some people are alcoholics or are only able to open up and have fun when drinking.
I would make sure they are holding up a beer in the photo. They may be attending a "Urine for the time of your life" get together.

| The Holding up a Beer/Cheers Photos.... Posted: 7/19/2008 8:11:42 PM | Depends on the guy. If you like going out and drinking, you're going to love a photo like that, because it shows she's into something you like to do.
If you're like me, you don't drink, and you don't want a woman who does, then it keeps you from even having to click on the profile.

| The Holding up a Beer/Cheers Photos.... Posted: 7/19/2008 8:24:42 PM | I find it off putting. I'm not sure why. I've nothing against drink but it seems a little two dimensional. Tends to go with "I like the usual things..." which assumes that clubbing, shopping and getting out of your skull is usual.
I certainly don't see it as a "plus" as the main picture, or as a feature of all pictures!
[grins] Maybe I'm turning into an Olde Pharte (tm)...

| The Holding up a Beer/Cheers Photos.... Posted: 7/19/2008 8:30:36 PM | the gals think it what the guy wants i guess, i just won't date a party animal. i've seen the end result on a couple, some turn out all good, the others well not so good.
only plus side is that we can someone figure what they drink for alcohol

| The Holding up a Beer/Cheers Photos.... Posted: 7/19/2008 8:34:19 PM | | Yeah I find those drinking pictures a bit of a turnoff as well. I mean if someone wants to drink I am certainly not going to tell them not to, nor do I see anything wrong with drinking. However if you can't find any better pictures of yourself to put on a dating site then that's kind of pathetic. | |

Posted: 7/19/2008 10:18:32 PM | | OMFG, this thread is as ridiculuos as the one I read the other day where a poster was complaining of guys taking pics IN their apartments. Sounds like some people have nothing better to do other than complain about others pics and the content, geez, where does it end, if at all.

| The Holding up a Beer/Cheers Photos.... Posted: 7/20/2008 12:21:13 AM | | Damn, people are overthinking this thing! Simple explanations...folks are usually having a few beers at parties. People also bring their cameras along to parties, and take pictures. Most of us don't chronicle our daily lives, so usually when there are pictures taken we're at a wedding, or a birthday or some other celebration where drinks are served. Or on vacation somewhere fun, which might also involve a few drinks. The vast majority of people can control their alcohol intake. For those who can't, I'm sorry that lack of control has been a cause of trouble in your life. But that doesn't mean my attitude should match yours. For instance, the OP states right up front that he no longer drinks, which I'm guessing means he had a problem in the past. By objecting to someone's picture posted with a beer in hand, he is projecting his problem and his disapproval onto someone he doesn't even know, based on his circumstances and perceptions. Seems a narrow way of thinking to me. I'm not arguing in favor of alcohol here, just that if you have a problem with it, don't date people who drink. But don't act superior about it. | |

Even you must need this vent, because you are ****ing about our ****ing....hypocrite So I suppose this means you're on this ****ing and whining bandwagon? It just seems like some people have nothing better to do that whine and complain about the content of others pics. So needing to **** and whine is necessary to enjoy a nice holiday from the frustrations of daily life? Geez, I can surely find lots of other ways to enjoy a holiday or escape the frustrations of the daily life that do not include ****ing or whining or beer. But so what is some people have a pic with them holding a beer, what's next complaining about pics with their pets in them too? Oy! Also, how does me making a statement like this make me a hypocrite?

| The Holding up a Beer/Cheers Photos.... Posted: 7/20/2008 12:54:43 AM | | I have a picture of me holding a Smirnoff ice!, the simple reason i dont live my life with someone forever holding a camera in my face. So i only time i get a picture of myself is when i'm out for a particular reason, this one being a friend's 40th birthday. Certainly no hidden adgenda and i only drink about twice a year...hardly need to call AA yet. | |

| The Holding up a Beer/Cheers Photos.... Posted: 7/20/2008 1:03:45 AM | LOL @ gnuru.......
I agree with a lot of things said here....if it's one pic of a bunch, ok fine. People tend to take the cameras out when there's a group. But yes, when it's ALL the pictures, or the person just looks plastered, you kind of wonder. It's kind of like when people take all of their pictures with their car - sure a pic of you and your car is nice (I love MINE to death), but if it's all over the place you start thinking 'are you defined only by your car?', or in this case 'do you really need to prove you can have a good time?'
Ah well, to each their own. There's a thread ****ing about people showing cleavage in their pictures, and I have a couple like that, so really, I guess the moral of the story is......put up pictures that you think reflect yourself and your personality, and what you want people to know about ya.

Posted: 7/20/2008 3:35:01 AM | Personally I like the martini being held up pictures ..either you or your bartender put a lot of effort into that drink and now is the reward . As I always say to my bartender person , we’ve had enough to drink. Now let’s have too much....

Since when did emoticons lose their efficacy in implying emotion? I was just joking, relax I don't think everyone who uses a beer emoticon, or has a bottle in his or her hand is a drunk. But the people that post it all over their page, and all over their messages give me the indication that they are a hard partier, and I'm over that stage.
ps, If I was a b!tchy person, I would have started b!tching about your b!tching about our b!itching, but alas, I deleted that post in an effort to keep my brain from imploding, thus proving you wrong so there! lol

| The Holding up a Beer/Cheers Photos.... Posted: 7/20/2008 6:38:21 AM | I've wondered about that myself. I see those pics and think, "Yeah, just what turns a woman on -- a guy puking all over her shoes!" Especially if it's his profile pic or if all his pics are boozing pics.
If one pic out of the eight is the guy with a beer, that's another story -- particularly if the picture shows him maybe out on the deck enjoying a barbeque or something. But the Frat Rat Ties One On photos? They tell me that not only is the guy blotto half the time, he's not very bright because he actually thinks being a boozer attracts women.

| The Holding up a Beer/Cheers Photos.... Posted: 7/20/2008 6:42:05 AM | It's okay in one photo, 2 tops...but when their entire collage is all bar shots with him/her drinking...means shes's too much of a party girl for me. lol | |

| The Holding up a Beer/Cheers Photos.... Posted: 7/20/2008 7:34:39 AM | Okay, Okay...for those FEW.....there's prolly a couple....peeps who gave useful answers.....thanks. To the ones who got offended.....um, sorry. That wasn't my intent. Allow me to reply in the strong irish Fat Bass-tard accent, "Ooooooooh, defensive are we?" I never said drinking was a bad thing. The self destructive behavior that stems from it IS. typically, the only sober person in the bar is the designated driver. This is why there ARE designated drivers. I'm sorry, the point of "Well, it was the only pic i had time to take" doesnt work....if thats the case, you spendin' too much time drinkin! I had exactly one hangover in my life. Thats good enough for me.
I guess some people are attracted by that kind of pic......in essence maybe drinkers want to attract drinkers.
"They don't call 'em drankers anymore, baw. That's offensive. They call 'em Inebriated-Americans".

| The Holding up a Beer/Cheers Photos.... Posted: 7/20/2008 8:48:18 AM | Yah I don't like those beer or bar photos either. Frankly those kind of men remind me of the dirty "white trash" lifestyle. There's way too much of it. It's classless. | |

| The Holding up a Beer/Cheers Photos.... Posted: 7/20/2008 9:01:58 AM | | It does nothing for me except seems the person is saying, "Hey...look at me...I am cool.. I conform to society and their rules". (instead of being an individualist) Not my type. I am with you on this one, especially when it comes to guys my age, it is a complete turn off. But if you listen to people talk in any setting...work, school, home, sporting events...society pushes this as the norm. I guess I am just a rebel against society and its rules, if someone says I am supposed to be doing it, I usually do the opposite. Even this site has a beer mug icon.lol | |
