A pill has been devloped that tricks the muscles into thinking they have been working out. Essentially a pill wil get you fit and you won't have to move a muscle.
"It's tricking the muscle into 'believing' it's been exercised daily," says Ronald Evans, a developmental biologist at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies, in La Jolla, Calif., and co-author of a study published in Cell. "It proves you can have a pharmacologic equivalent to exercise."
The pill works by reprogramming muscle cells from sugar-burning to fat-burning, slow-twitch muscle that doesn't fatigue as easily and aids in endurance.
After four weeks of treatment mice ran on treadmills nearly 1.5 times as long as untreated animals.
To discourage cheating among athletes, Evans has developed urine and blood tests to detect the drug.
The possibilities with this drug are endless. No more excuses for being overweight? A nation of Schwarzeneggers?

A second drug, GW1516, produced even better results, but only in conjunction with regular exercise, the journal Cell reports.
After a month of taking that drug and exercising, mice could run 70 per cent further than other mice that had worked out on the treadmill but did not get the drug. 'The dramatic effect of the drug was stunning," said the professor.

They've worked out really well......

| Pill Replaces Exercise Posted: 8/1/2008 2:15:22 AM | If this pill really does work, then why should we worry about an obesity crisis? Just give EVERYONE the pill. I'm suspicious of "miracle" claims, like Seroxat. I think that the side-effects ought to have been checked, BEFORE it was announced. | |

| Pill Replaces Exercise Posted: 8/1/2008 3:43:26 PM | Honestly - don't know how this can do much good. You still need to work your muscles to keep from atrophy. Also, exercise keeps the joints lubricated. Geez, a pill for this and a pill for that. If they can just invent a pill that will fly me to the moon | |

| Pill Replaces Exercise Posted: 8/1/2008 8:38:16 PM | | A few people won't follow the directions and get ill or die and then it will be banned. Nothing that might actually work is going to be around long. If we were all slender and fit, how would drs. and drug companies make any money? | |

| Pill Replaces Exercise Posted: 8/1/2008 8:56:36 PM | | Man, that sounds like just what I need, if only it took no effort to obtain. Do they drop them off at your house? | |

BINGO. He's probably getting death threats already. Expect this to NEVER make it to the shelves.
If big Pharma can BUY FDA approval they can make billion$ before the already-known-about side effects - like DEATH make it into the MSMedia. It seems like the diet pills have a pretty consistent history of doing exactly that!

I guess by now you all have realized it has been so long for me I no longer understand the concept.

| Pill Replaces Exercise Posted: 8/2/2008 10:06:40 AM | this is no good. tricking your body only causes problems in the long run. it kinda sounds like steroids or something.
in the end, you're probably gonna need the m.m program to ween off it and get your body back to normal. or not.
whats wrong with doing the normal and just working out? the FEELING is what counts, not so much the end result. im sure this pill won't help relieve stress or get you outside...

| Pill Replaces Exercise Posted: 8/2/2008 10:13:53 AM | Great news. Now where's that pill that will put tons of money in my purse and I don't have to work for it??? | |
|
| Pill Replaces Exercise Posted: 8/2/2008 10:32:07 AM | Sorry, but I am sure that it will lead to heart attacks, muscle spasms, irregular heart beats, probably speed the heart rate and you would then die at an earlier age, then which you would of,. Because ,the heart muscle wears out over time. and it would probably cause sexual problems, Laziness and vanity will only be cured by, being less vain and by working out, and being less lazy, thousands of products are out there which people use everyday, for a quick fix and none of them work without hurting your body more in the long run, so to all the people that want to change the natural way your body works, go for it but it's not for me. or anyone who has common sense....... I only listed a couple of the obvious things that it would probaly harm but there are many many more. I could of list
here are a couple examples your eyes sexual organs what would be the wear and tear on your ligaments, tendon, pessures on your spinal cord brain joints think of the built up of tumors closing blood flow tears and rips in muscles when doing very hard work that already takes a toll on your body, just think people how much pain and suffering are you willing to endure for vanity........................But I guess to each their own

Do I hear the first Juicer pill? haha.
I'm not too thrilled with this idea. Sounds too good to be true. It also sounds incredibly dangerous. I can only imagine the side effects.
Makes you strong enough to lift a mack truck over your head, but the downside is you die in 4 + 2d4 years.

| Pill Replaces Exercise Posted: 12/30/2008 4:12:48 PM | I'm just going to point out that you know what else often causes an enlarged heart?
Working out. Seriously it's called athletes heart, and it has not been shown to cause any issues.
|
| Pill Replaces Exercise Posted: 12/31/2008 6:49:22 PM | | I read about a pill like that. It's available from only one pharmacy, which is on top of a mountain that you have to climb up to get to. It is said to work for those who are willing to go get one every day. | |

The pill works by reprogramming muscle cells from sugar-burning to fat-burning, slow-twitch muscle that doesn't fatigue as easily and aids in endurance.
This is probably a really stupid question, but here goes. Since the body tends to utilize/burn sugar quicker than most other 'nutrients' (or rather, first, I guess), then if one's muscles are being reprogrammed to burn fat first, what happens to the sugar? Is it still being absorbed and burned as well, or would it be building up in the body? (Since I'm gathering with this pill the body is being tricked into believing it's exercised already, and only burned fat).
Probably a silly question, I just wondered if this might lead to higher levels of natural insulin buildup and blood sugar levels or whatnot, and if the result might be more cases of diabetes? Just asking cause I'm no expert by any means.

My question still stands, because I'm genuinely asking it.
