Have you been looking at the possibility of adding an iPhone app that would make it easier for the thousands of iPhone users to keep linked to POF? I think it would be a great idea. I would hope for a native app instead of a web app but beggars can't be choosers.

Oh yeah, I'd go for that for my iPod Touch, if that could be condensed down for either or that would be wonderful!

Cheers

I think it would be a great idea - there currently is one for the BlackBerry and other devices, as PoF recognizes you are on a mobile device, so an app for iPhone would be great!

Hmm can access it normally on the iPhone by the web... But if ya sending messages to people it seems to go wacko half way through the message and you have to abort... Does this on both my iPhones... So an iPhone app would be aces...

Why aren't people hassling Apple to properly implement WAP, which obviously already works fine with other mobile browsers, rather that hassling people to write code for a limited number of users?

Any progress on this? I would love iPhone-friendly CSS for better browsing using Mobile Safari.

How is POF on the iphone now? I downloaded a emulator and than changed a bunch of stuff to make it somewhat compatible. Who knows if that actually worked though!

I noticed this morning when I logged in via my iPhone that it was redirecting or made reference to a mobile device. It just seemed to make all of the pages fit the screen automatically. i.e. they were very small and needed to be zoomed.

I think there is a huge need for a native iPhone application and I just happen to be a software developer with over 20 years experience. I have playing around with iPhone apps for sometime now. If you are interested in creating an iPhone application I might be the man.

Good luck.

Whatever you did stuffed up logging into mail from an iPhone. I would suggest undoing changes as the old way was perfectly fine compared to not being able to access mail from an iPhone.

Is there a POF iPhone App on the way? Cooooo.

It's been possible to get on the site and use it for some while using the Safari browser - log in is the fiddliest thing. Once beyond that it all seems fine - just requires a lot of zooming in and out. But it's possible to view a profile, send a message, view the forums and make a posting. Full functionality seems to be there and POF scrolls and zooms better than a lot of sites.

So POF works and maybe all that's needed to make it work easily is an iPhone specific login page that the site can launch if it recognises the browser code a users device provides as being iPhone?

I have been a user of this site for a while and I'm also a registered iPhone developer. Over the past few days I've started working on a native iPhone client for PlentyOfFish for personal use (Using the browser on the iPhone is not great for everything). I have working code to view mails and at the moment I'm implementing the "Who's Viewed Me" section, it requires alot of custom code ect so may take a few weeks for a working prototype.

Just wondered if anyone if any one has any ideas or suggestions for it.

I'm documenting the progress of it here - http://gallery.me.com/paul.sneddon#100078

Paul

That would be wonderful. I have an iphone that I am hooked on, but POF is very cumbersome.

I'm not sure what all of you are talking about - the iPhone browses the web quite well and since POF is a fairly basic site I find it's one of the easier sites to use.

Apps are great for some things, but are we really all too lazy to push our fingers around the screen a little? I mean seriously, we have the Internet at our fingertips wherever we are with an iPhone, and it's STILL not convienient enough for you??

Hire someone.

The issue isn't whether we're too lazy to push a finger around a screen - it's a given in any event with mobile browsing.

The issue is the crappy formatting, and the continual miss clicking of the BS ads, making things larger, making thing smaller because in some cases, the fonts are mixed, as way too large and way too small ALL on the same screen (for no apparant reason)

Have a look at some websites that are just fine for home use, and then view them through a phone browser - then look at another site that has also been optimized for a phone browser or has had an app built - night and day.

You can still design an app and have a few carefully placed ads that are visible , but out of the way of misfires. The mobile market is worth tapping into and if you can provide a better experience, there's no downside.

You may as well extend the analogy as to why design a car with 4 wheels, and only provide 3. Sure, you get to point B, but not without annoyances - no need for them.

iPhone Users:
You need to contact Apple and ask them to fix it
-or-
Get a 'User Agent' switcher/changer.
(it will enable your phone to say it's not a mobile device when you request a page and you can get non-mobile formatted web pages)
See Wikipedia for more info:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_agent

Here is a Apple Forum about this issue:

Like trappedonbayst said, you're only using 3 wheels...I guess you could call it an iCar
Ask Apple to give you a 4th
