| Men over 45 and facial hair Posted: 8/17/2008 9:59:53 AM | I am curious as to why so many men over 45 so often have facial hair, more often than younger men. As I am 'looking' again, and looking at men in my age range, I find that most seem to have some facial hair. My preference is for a man without it, so this circumstance has stood out for me.
Basically, I am not criticizing, just wondering.

Seriously?
But it is mustaches too.....They've got either a mustache or both beard and mustache.

| Men over 45 and facial hair Posted: 8/17/2008 10:43:21 AM | vikingpatrick: as I said, it isn't criticism and it isn't a deal breaker, so I wouldn't put it in my profile. I am just curious.
my goodness, your response is extremely negative. I'm not picking and not whitling...just wondering...had no idea it was such a sensitive subject...

| Men over 45 and facial hair Posted: 8/17/2008 10:44:24 AM | I guess if the man is retired, he is just taking a break from shaving everyday. I myself don't care for alot of facial hair. I have seen mens pictures that show them with a nicely groomed gouttee or mustache. Some men look better with it, and I wouldn't have any problem dating a man like that.Yesterday a man contacted me. He lives in the same city I am moving to . When I saw his picture, he not only had a long beard; but, also had the long hair to go with it. Without being rude, I let him know that I wouldn't be interested in dating a"cave-man look". He got very offended, so I went into great depth on why I wouldn't be interested. To me it makes a statement that he is a non-conformist, I'm a con-formastist. He claimed I was judging the book by the cover. lol....I say to each their own, there are many fish in the sea, and I'm sure there are plenty of women out there that like the "cave-man look", I'm just not one of them. | |

| Men over 45 and facial hair Posted: 8/17/2008 10:47:24 AM | Speaking for myself I started wearing a beard because I hate to shave. I started at 13 and hated it until i turned 16 and gave it up. Some of us feel we are more attractive with a beard. My long neck looks better covered up. Lots of reasons I suppose but those are mine | |

| Men over 45 and facial hair Posted: 8/17/2008 10:50:24 AM | I love a soft beard or that "5 o'clock shadow"! I think it all depends on how it looks on a man. If kept trimmed and groomed, it can look pretty hot! Facial hair to me is simply part of what goes with the man that makes him attractive to us. He has it, he doesn't. Not a big deal to me either way. Now to find a man...hmmm....think this could take me a while. bbl! | |

| Men over 45 and facial hair Posted: 8/17/2008 11:01:27 AM | Come now Moonie!!!! You can find a man anytime. Now the right one? That might take some looking. | |

| Men over 45 and facial hair Posted: 8/17/2008 11:08:15 AM | ... Personally, I find facial hair on a man extremely attractive... if its well groomed. Some men just have the facial structure to carry off the look like Sean Connery, Tom Selleck and my favorite guy Kris Kristofferson and there are a few on PoF as well.
I certainly would not pass up the opportunity to get to know someone based upon facial hair or the lack thereof. Attraction is truly in the eye of the beholder.

| Men over 45 and facial hair Posted: 8/17/2008 11:15:55 AM | | I have had a beard since I was nineteen. I am now 62. It didn't occur to me to shave it When I turned 45. Was I supposed to? | |

| Men over 45 and facial hair Posted: 8/17/2008 11:25:59 AM | No Ismene, my responses was not extremely negative, I am sorry you felt that way. You mentioned above that your preference is without, that is why I said put it in your profile. You mentioned it stood out for you after looking and looking...... That's why I said keep whittling.
So what is your question again and why do you bring it up and what do you want to do with that info and why does it matter to you, etc ?
Like I said, I have been on POF for 2 weeks and have seen a lifetime of juvenile crap from supposedly mature people and wonder why they need a forum like this to attack people, answer me that......?
I asked because I have become curious about it. When I say it stands out, it means I have just been noticing it when I didn't before because I wasn't particularly looking. Last time I was looking around at men, most were clean shaven, so it is something new to me. I wonder why older men seem to prefer it. I guess I notice it more because I have a preferenc, but prefernce does not mean to me deal breaker.
If being curious is juvenile, then I am extremely juvenile. Childish/childlike, immature, silly, you name it..foolish? Possibly. If I put up a thread, or make a post, I don't have an agenda and am not looking for any conflict. I just want to know. There is a great line I remember from a novel by William Saroyan, an American Armenian writer of the mid 20th century. The book is The Human Comedy. There was a line in it, something like "he asked the only question he could ask, 'Why?' I read that book more than 30 years ago. That line has always stuck in my mind because it is the way I am. Juvenile? Probably.

| Men over 45 and facial hair Posted: 8/17/2008 11:29:42 AM | Older men are often retired and can do what ever the heck they want to with their hair now. I expect many shaved and made frequent trips to the barber during their careers, to satisfy the "boss." Is it OK with me? You bet it is,, I think whisker burn on my skin just sucks! I'm also good with men who like shorts, t-shirts and flip-flops. Just my opinion, of course.

Well this makes sense for those who are retired.

| Men over 45 and facial hair Posted: 8/17/2008 11:37:31 AM | Perhaps younger men care more than I do to bother with shaving?
Sometimes I shave, sometimes I don't. Most times, I don't give it much thought either way. Except for one time. I had always wanted a handlebar moustache and my ex absolutely wouldn't have it. Any other facial hair, she didn't mind. But she minded the handlebar. Put her foot down about it.
As soon as it was apparent we were getting divorced, I made it a point to grow one.

Dont know about dying out Is, but I have never cut my throat not shaving!
There is nothing more attractive in a man than a good sense of humor. It almost makes up for the facial hair.

| Men over 45 and facial hair Posted: 8/17/2008 11:47:45 AM | Maybe when you get to a certain age, you just get tired of shaving?
Or it's the economy - that's it! the economy! - cost of razors going up?!!

Awe Miss Mae, and here I thought I shaved this mornin! lol You are a cutie ya know that? The same could be said right back at ya!

| Men over 45 and facial hair Posted: 8/17/2008 12:11:16 PM | | I love men with facial hair. I find it very sexy. It wouldn't be a deal breaker if a man didn't have facial hair, but he gets more points on my score card if he does... and hairy chests really go into the bonus points!!! Why shouldn't they have facial hair? If a man wants to grow a mustache, beard, goatee, soul patch or whatever, more power to him. I think men, as they mature, have a tendency to do what they prefer. They realize that they have the right to look as they want, just as women do. You go, Guys!!!! | |
