Posted: 8/17/2008 3:19:10 PM | | I have just watched channel 4's doc, on vaginal surgery. I was shocked and suprised that so many woman have such big hang ups about their vaginas. I am interested to know from males if the size, shape etc of a womans vagina makes a difference to their sexual experiences. Also ladies do you feel that pressure to wax etc etc makes a difference? I do think it is a sad sign of the times when girls of 16 are going under the knife? One final thing, porn birds aka slot birds, really are not a true representation of what is normal and natural,(honestly!!) | |

Now, that is exactly the sort of statement that all young women should know - albeit in a more appropriate way.....
There will always be people who will make someone feel bad but in my experience.... (and am 44!!!! yaaaayyyyy!!!) most men are also interested inthe whole person, not just their labia/s -labii(!!)... Or should us women be bothered by dimensions of men's genitalia....?

Now that's the crux of the whole thing...... as pretty as they all look, the bottom line is they are modified.... and that is what young men, men and older men are watching and wanting. Can you please be more specific on what you are referring to, especially considering not all of us get *channel 4* or saw the same show you just watched.
There are vaginal (internal structure) surgeries to tighten and rejuvenate, as well as reconstruct the hymen. Most 16 yo girls do not need to be tight or rejuvenated.
Then there are labiaplasty that deals with the size and shape of the vulva, or labia (external structures).
I think it's pretty sad when a teenage girl goes under the knife for many reasons.
Without it getting to be too personal here, I like my vagina and my labia just as they are. And more importantly not one of my partners has ever said anything bad about them either. I wax because I like it, not because someone else has made me. | |

Therefore I have decided that they should change theirs to look like mine.

Outside of reconstructive surgery following a trauma...exactly WTF is this being done? For family photos?

The programme covered all aspects of vaginal surgery. It was made to highlight a growing industry. Most of the women were having labia surgery,but Hymen restructuring is taking place, especially in cultures where it is vital a woman is a virgin.
The popular beauty treatment waxing has meant that a lot of women now see their vaginas properly, and the whole "smooth" culture shown in the porn industry, is giving people false impressions of what they should look like.
The presenter decided to put herself through a series of experiences in order to fully understand, why women have this surgery. She had a wax, had a vaginal mould made (An artist took impressions of 200 women to them they were all different (this alone, stoppped one woman from going under the knife) She showed herself to a group of women at a psychotherapy session, aimed at stopping women going for surgery, and was examined by a plastic surgeon.
A girl of 21 had labiaplasty, after her sister told her boyfriends, she had 'beef curtains'
I hope this makes it a bit clearer.
Whilst I have no problem with people wishing to make the best of themselves, I think women, especially young women, should be made aware of the fact that all vaginas look different and change with age.
The programme touched on sex eduation at school and a group of teenage girls said they wished they had been told that all women looked so different, or even shown pictures. That way they would have realised a lot sooner that they were all normal.
For the record, I too am happy with my lot, even after having a quick look during the programme!! | |

I was also stunned that women would consider this except for in extreme circumstances, and this was the point the presenter put across (after having a mould taken of hers, joining the "group" session and having it examined by the cosmetic surgeon!).
In response to your question, some undoubtedly look and feel better than others, but that's it, and it's purely down to personal taste. The overall effect on the sexual experience is minimal. I personally prefer lips which aren't too visible, nicely "curved" rather than "flat", and unshaven. But anything is better than surgery without very good cause! | |
