| | Are you a YouTube junkie?Page 1 of 1 | How many here are YouTube junkies? How often do you watch? I confess I am addicted. I even posted a video the other day and would like to get a better camera and some editing software to make more. I think it would be fun to create these.
Any recommendations on equipment and software to make videos? How-to tips?
I wonder why Plenty Of Fish doesn't include video introductions as well. Now, wouldn't that eliminate the problem of people not posting a current picture? It would also eliminate a lot of wasted time and trouble of first dates!

| Are you a YouTube junkie? Posted: 8/23/2008 1:36:45 PM | I can honestly say I'm not. I know a couple of the ladies in the office tend to watch those at work and sit there laughing. Some peeps send me links to certain ones they think would be of interest to me and I'll watch them but thats the only time I pull them up.
Posting a youtube on here is an interesting thought doc. But my guess is those that show the OLD pics or no pics wouldn't use that function to hide the truth.

| Are you a YouTube junkie? Posted: 8/24/2008 1:59:48 PM | No 'mam. I don't own a TV/DVD player etc. and haven't for years. Why would I want to watch stuff on the internet? | |
|
| Are you a YouTube junkie? Posted: 8/24/2008 6:01:46 PM | Have watched youtube. perhaps at one point in time the format was frsh , new and interesting. Now it is a maze of mostly trash. Really quite boring and mainstream.
I find some of the material disturbing forms of propaganda bordering on facism and I wonder what effect this form of media will have on the future of individuals and the decision process regarding vital issues in the future?

| Are you a YouTube junkie? Posted: 8/25/2008 1:31:25 PM | Once you get acclimated with the site, you realize that there is a wealth of information on there. Need to find out how to do something? Ten to one someone has videotaped the process and has it there for viewing. I'm amazed that there is something on just about any subject you can think of.
There are also old TV programs, music videos, language instruction, and documentaries. For a "nerd" like me, it is heaven. It's quite easy to maneuver around the "trash" which always shows up on sites such as YouTube.
Well, guess there's not many on here then that this speaks to, so this thread will disappear into the quicksand of the forgotten thread pages.

| Are you a YouTube junkie? Posted: 8/25/2008 1:48:20 PM | I don't go there all the time but I do look around there a lot.
It's like searching for anything really... if you know what you're looking for, you'll find it, but if all you do is randomly browse, you're going to run into a myriad of pointless crap. I happen to think some of this pointless crap is just plain hilarious too.
|
| Are you a YouTube junkie? Posted: 8/25/2008 4:46:57 PM | I have never found much point in youtube so I tend to avoid it like the plague. Unless a friend gives me a very good reason to look at something there I won't touch it.
A few of the videos I do enjoy there would be: Fear of Girls WoW (Here Without You) WoW (The internet is for Porn) Dungeon Masters Don't Have Levels Summoner Geeks

| Are you a YouTube junkie? Posted: 8/28/2008 12:34:49 PM | I am a YouTube addict, is there a 12 step program? No, No..I don't want to stop watching!! I love to watch the videos of old songs that you don't hear on the radio anymore.
Did anyone see Christian the Lion? I cried like it was my long lost child coming home!

| Are you a YouTube junkie? Posted: 8/28/2008 3:32:04 PM | debi36, oh yes, I've seen Christian the Lion. That is an awesome video. If you want to see something really cute, search for videos of Pepper, the dancing dog. The newest video is "Pepper performing the bullfight." It is so funny! I don't know how they ever train an animal to do those things.
If there is a 12-step program to stop the addiction to YouTube, I don't want to do it! You can find things on there that are way better than what is on television.

Probably because it would crash most computers?
The new music feature stalls out my machine.... too much, keep it simple.

I wonder why Plenty Of Fish doesn't include video introductions as well. Actually you can include it using imeem (I think that's what it's called, I can't access the profiles area at work).

| Are you a YouTube junkie? Posted: 8/29/2008 3:31:59 PM | Hey while we are at it we can have youtube think for us too. I sense that more people are clones of what they see and hear on youtube. How sad! Creative people are becoming obsolete! Time to rebel against the machine.er.I mean the youtube generation. Arise and rebel. | |

| Are you a YouTube junkie? Posted: 8/29/2008 8:38:09 PM | Believe this.... I have never visited youtube. I think I'll go there now and see what all the hype is about lol.... Thanks Sharon I'll probably be addicted by morning!!!! | |

climbs, I think you are visiting a different YouTube than I've been visiting!
Creativity? Try searching for eggman913 on there and watch his Women in Art video. He has morphed numerous painters' pictures of women's heads together to form a continuous artistic compilation of artwork which you'll probably not find anywhere else. It's brilliant really.
Once you get into finding some really good videos, you can subscribe to channels which are really thought-provoking, creative, and downright entertaining. When I first went there, I, too, was thinking that there were a lot of lunatics with a camcorder on there, but no more. I have a raft of subscriptions where there is no end to really interesting things coming my way.
You might be interested in the TedTalks videos as well. They have their own website with videos, but also have a YouTube channel where they post some of the same videos. TedTalks is a gathering of scientists, philosophers, and well-known people from all walks of life where ideas are put forth and recorded for posterity. Good stuff!

| Are you a YouTube junkie? Posted: 8/30/2008 4:24:41 AM | If it is ture that there is gold in there hills of youtube it is hiding. Than again I have a career that limits the time I have to search for gold. But I will take your word for it that gold exisits at youtube.
Coinsider this. One summer during my break. I once found a youtube video where someone tied a long cloth to the ceiling fan. Of course when the fan was turned on the clolth would spin around 6 feet off the floor. The purpose ,to film the family cat grab the spinning cloth on the ceiling fan. The cat grabbed the spinning cloth, became airborne . The cat was spun around for half a circle some 5 feet off the floor. The frightened cat let go of the spinning cloth and was thrown across the room into the glass door. The cat was injured. The person in question attempted this stunt for one reason and one reason alone. The attention one gains from showing trash on youtube.
I won't argue that gold exists on youtube. I wonder how much more trash exists than gold. I wonder what the effect is on the masses that watch the trash. I imagine you are the exception. The exceptions are not the masses.

This goes far beyond youtube then. People have always tried to do things for attention in all of history. Just watch the news. Bomb threats, random arson, even serial killers... they almost always are done for attention. Streakers, website hackers, etc... the list goes on and on. This isn't something new, it's just a new media and way to do it.

It's really becoming annoying haveing people sticking their "communicators" in my face apparently trying to document something I really don't want documented.
This is crossing the lines of invasion of privacy. I never watched funniest home videos either. As much (or little) as I watch TV, I've never owned a video recording device, I never saw the need for one.... attention, who needs it?? (then again I'm used to being blended into the mundane all my life too, I've had my 15 seconds of fame & it wasn't pleasant.

I've had my 15 seconds of fame & it wasn't pleasant. YOU sir are one of the most famous people here and your words and opinions have been recorded in the forums for all to read.
YOUTUBE hmmm right on some trash some gold. Isn't that pretty normal? You gotta search for treasure through plenty of trash pretty much anywhere you're looking.

YouTube is just like any other creative media, it is an outlet for those that need it and those that enjoy watching it. If you don't like what you see you can always search for another topic. And I for one love the old music videos that are never shown anywhere else anymore, where else can you watch Elvis sweating and grinding?

Trash TV??? I'm assuming most of you are paying $40-60/month for cable, yet you are refering to it as trash..... I don't get it?

| Are you a YouTube junkie? Posted: 9/3/2008 8:13:50 AM | | Does anyone ever use Youtube for the music benefits? For instance,I never got to see the original Lynyrd Skynyrd play live together before we all know what happened to them, but I can see them "live" on Youtube. Or any of your favorites for that matter. I think it's an incredibly useful media tool that you are in charge of,hence the name. You can take from it what You want and leave the rest. Don't be scared. | |
