I recently took a trip to Alaska and had the pleasure of a Halibut trip. Can anyone provide me with some good recipes to use? Being we didnt catch the largest fish I am looking for different recipes to try on Walleye or other fish first. Thanks in advance.

Works with pretty much any white fish as well as salmon. Goes very well with halibut.

1 1/2 cups soy sauce
1/2 medium onion, chopped
2 inches fresh ginger, peeled and sliced
1 tsp black pepper (or to taste)
1/2 cup brown sugar
juice of half a lemon
1/2 tsp sesame oil

Combine all ingredients, stirring to dissolve sugar, and place in a 1/2 gallon Ziploc bag or sealable bowl. Add fish fillets and marinate 1 hour to overnight. Broil fish under high heat until done.

^^That sounds like a mighty fine way to cook fish VB! And you say this works with most white fish? Then I guess tillapia could also be cooked this same way? I am on a tillapia kick these days and am always looking for new ways to cook it. Thanks!

This is so simple and so good...

Make a tin foil "baking" pan for a toaster oven if you have one, if not, use it on a cookie sheet under a broiler.

Season the bottom of the tin foil pan with butter, a bit of Old Bay or other seafood seasoning, and lemon juice. Lay the fish on this and season the top of it the same way. Can also use a little dill, paprika, just don't go overboard with any of it.

Broil until flaky, about 12-15 mins for 1" thick steaks.

If you use enough butter, and you made your "baking" pan fairly small, pour off the remaining pan juices into a cup and use this for dipping. OH YEAH!!

Use this recipe for Halibut, swordfish, tuna, salmon, shark, mahi mahi, etc.

It is as simple and fast as you will ever see, and it takes the flavor of the main ingredient to excellence without changing it or smothering it with stuff you add or sprinkle on it or dip it in.

Halibut is such a wonderful fish I hate to overwhelm it with too much flavor, and my constant fallback is baked in parchment paper with a drizzle of olive oil, lemon juice, garlic, fresh parsley, salt and pepper. but on occasion I will make:

Fish Tacos
Halibut holds very well as fish fingers. I cut into 1 inch slices, coat in flour seasoned with cayenne, salt and pepper, and garlic powder , fry till crisp and just cooked through.
Serve with finely sliced cabbage seasoned lightly with lime juice and little salt,
Jack cheese, chopped tomatoes, tomatillo salsa and warm soft corn or flour tortillas.

If you don’t wish to fry simply bake wrapped in parchment paper with similar combination above ...you can add a little of your salsa to the mix...it’s a great meal to enjoy with friends.

Halibut Pesto
Spread fresh pesto sauce on the filet or steak and bake. Served with garlic noodles and a quick ratatouille of rough chopped tomatoes, garlic, zucchini and peppers or even simpler a green salad.

Crusted
There are so many awesome ideas online and you can crust with ground flaxseed, almonds, pistachios etc. Season your fish with a little salt, combine your nuts with a little mayo or olive oil or butter, lemon juice maybe some Dijon or horseradish and parmesan cheese. Spread on top of the filet of fish and bake. Options are as endless

Almost the perfect fish and for that reason I agree with tropicalgirl. Keep it simple. Broiled and served with lemon wine caper butter. Let the fish be the main event. Not an occasion to show off cooking skills or knowledge of ingredients. Save that for the red snapper.

left over Halibut , turned into taco's with pesto...yummy.
My fav way to cook halibut...is with a boiled dinner... ham & vegies or salt beef(corned beef&cabbage, my fav)...last 10 min of boiling veggies...place halibut on top of pot and let it steam...the flavor of the sweet vegies and salt from the steam is out of this world...don't knock it til you try it...I said YUK at first too lol...Capers and Newfoundlanders will agree with me tho lol its amazing!
