And I felt like a child trying to wear my daddies shoes....#$%^#$&^%&$#! How in the hell are these things gonna stay in my mouth? With glue that tastes like poo...I don't even want them...My dentist truely looked hurt when I said that a tear in his eye as both sets floated and I said "Misapii," for the 85th time..And then came the cotton "Here chew on this he says pretend it's a small piece of food" Not small enough as it got caught in my throat...I looked up dentures before I started this thread and none seemed to deal with getting used to dentures..One was about dating..I'd like to see some eyewitness accounts here..How do you get used to wearing dentures? Do you wear them? Or do you not? Can you really take a big bite into an apple with them? Is gum sex better without thee teeth not that I'll ever get laid again but it's good to dream....Come on I know there's some real pro's out there show your teeth...And don't forget the humor any funny denture stories would help right now....

Oh my gosh that is way too funny. Sorry I can be of no help myself. My Mom had her "going to church teeth", she kept her dentures in her pocket most of the time and got to where she could gum her food fairly well. Wish you well with that - and please let us know of your progress!!!

I don't have any firsthand experience with dentures either, but my father had them since he was in his mid-20's. My sister and I never even knew he had dentures until we were in our 20's. He never allowed himself to be seen without them and he could eat anything. It never even occurred to us that they weren't his natural teeth. I guess it depends on how important it is to you to look like you have a full set of teeth. If it is a priority, then you will do whatever it takes to become acclimated to wearing them. If you don't really care about how you look, then you won't bother. Like everything else in life, it's pretty much up to you and what is important.

My friends who wear them tell me it can be a nightmare if the dentures don't fit properly. Otherwise, it is simply a matter of adjusting to having something in your mouth. I can relate to that. I had to have a tooth crowned and it felt as though I had a huge wad of something stuck on my jaw.

My ex-husband had a partial. I remember that when he said something at the urinal it dropped in. Keep your mouth closed if ya gotta go until you do get used to them.

A friend of mine had just received her new teeth, Big beautiful smile she was ready to go dancing. He walked in the door and was gorgeous. Now they are on the dance floor,oh he's a charmer, very witty. She throws back her head letting her long blond hair flow and laughs. Suddenly both sets flew out of her mouth and she is screaming over the music,Don't step on my teeth,Don't step on my teeth! Cleared the dance floor. He married her.

I had a neighbor with a full set of teeth who said said this one thing about them that sounded like good advice:

"If you believe that they're yours--you'll learn to love them."

When you think about it, they look terrific, very white, perfectly aligned, and there are never any teeth to be filled or pulled.

I still have my teeth, but every few years, there's some pain and a procedure or two to be endured.

I guess I sort of envy you guys with those pefectly white teeth--and no root canals ever again!

I ised to be a dental assistant for a dentist who specialized in dentures and partials. I know that there is a period of time that you need to get used to them. It has to do with tightening your muscles inside the cheeks to hold on to them. Then again, if they don't fit perfectly, not much will help. Take the tip of your tongue and press upward in the roof of your mouth to produce more suction. When you swallow, press your teeth together to keep them seated inplace. Use the adhesive that comes in a thin slab. It seems to have less flavor.
Now, if the op wants to ever get laid again, he will be scrupulous in cleaning them - Soaking them in Polident or something like that , scrubbing them before re-inserting. He will never let them drop down when in the company of a lady. He will not take them out in public. He will visit the dentist whenever they seem to be looser and frequently visit the dentist after he gets them. The gum will adjust to the inside of the dentures and hold them into place. As you chew, the jawbone will actually recede a bit, making it necessary to occasionally re-line them to make them snug again.

Always let a lady know that you have them, before you kiss her. Never take them out, even during love making unless you have her permission. Always wear them because you never know when someone will happen to be at the same place you are. Don't eat with them out when in the company of a lady.
Hope it helps.
For the rest of you who still have your teeth - Brush them! There but for the grace of Crest, go you and I.

A partial post from chinchilla:
"It has to do with tightening your muscles inside the cheeks to hold on to them."

I am so sorry g/f, but that line just JUMPED out at me. Is this where we keep dentures now?? Sorry, can't stop laughing here.

To the OP, yes dentures are a pain but once you get used to them and try the different types of adhesives on the market to help hold them in place (if needed), you'll be fine. I personally don't have dentures, but to be honest I sometimes wish I did. The cost of dentist visits is crazy and it takes me away from my job. With dentures I could just drop them off and do a pick up later

Another post I'm still having visuals about and laughing is the one where the gal's teeth flew out while dancing Thanks for the great laughs this morning folks and not to worry OP, you'll still be just as handsome with your new choppers and bright white smile You sexy devil you

Hey Byrd...Good luck with the dentures. Do whatever it takes to get them to fit right so you'll feel comfortable and confident wearing them. You don't want to end up with them in the drawer and looking like you belong on the Jerry Springer show.

My first wife wore dentures ever since her early 20's. Bad genetics not lack of proper dental hygiene. Anyway...one night she hops into bed to go to sleep and forgot to take them out and put them in the container. So not wanting to get up and put them where they were supposed to be she takes them out and lays them on the night stand. During the night we're woken to loud crunching noises. The dog had gotten them off the night stand and thought they made a good chew toy. There were pearly white teeth all over the bedroom. Spent the whole next day trying to find a place to make a cheap emergency set for her.

Another time a lady that worked for me came into the office one morning and was very quiet. When she talked she was trying to talk like a ventriloquist. Turns out she had been out partying the night before and had WAY too much to drink. Somehow she made it home OK but when she woke up in the morning her teeth were missing. She never did find them or figure out what happened to them?

Byrd, if you've been without teeth for awhile your gums may have shrunk, causing your dentures to be loose. I worked for a dentist years ago and he always popped them in right after the tooth extractions, so the gums could adjust quicker. A friend of mine recently got some new choppers and they look great, as she had really bad teeth. They put them in right after pulling her teeth out and she's had no problems. My ex had an upper partial and the first thing he did when coming home from work was take it out. I guess it's like when women get home from work and take their panty hose off so they can scratch their butts, LOL. If they're really bothering you after you've had them awhile, I'd go back to the doctor to get some adjustments. I don't know anything about the adhesives, but I'm sure some others here do. I've known a couple of people with partials who wore them constantly, except for brushing them.

Reminds me of when my ex and I first started to date. I asked him if his teeth were his teeth! lmao..Of course he replied that yes, they were his. Come to find out, they were false. Huge arguement follows for his not being truthful. Should have taken that as my first clue to things!

OT: I have heard that when your initial teeth have been removed, the plate should be worn immediately thereafter. It must be a very difficult thing to overcome OP. Wish you all the best with them!

Oh BYRD DO I have a story to tell you about dentures well actually a partial.
Now this could be complicated so pay attention! I was married to a man who had also been previously married to a woman who was as dumb as a ROCK . But I was raising her two daughters so I decided to be as tolerant with her as I could be. Again I repeat dumb as a rock.
She called me one night all upset. She was eating something and one of her front teeth fell out of her partial and she swallowed it! Now she is asking me what she could do because she had to go to work in the morning and her pride would not allow others to see her with her front tooth missing.
Well in my Honery Texas manor I told her the only thing I could think about was to get the damn tooth back and glue it back in. She said OH WOW and how do I do that ? I swallowed it! Oh!!! har har har This is gonna be a goodun as we say in Texas! !!
I said well you'll have to give yourself an enema. Look for the tooth and retrieve it!
The rock said An enema?
I said Yep the Only way !!! (har har har)
Then the rock said what is an enema! Oh Lordy this is getting goooood!
SO I explained what she needed to look for and to call me immediately after she gives it to herself. (I sure don't wanna miss this one !!)
She called me to tell me she got the enema and just used it and now what? . (Trying to console myself now) I said wait! Don't move whatever you do don't move!
(Hard not to laugh outloud now)
Then all of a sudden I hear this " OH MY GOD!! I can't do it anymore I am laughing so hard I am crying. I hear nothing but Oh my God in the background. I am hurting now almost peeing my britches. And then silence!! I think uh oh ! At least 5 minutes went by and I hear nothing. Then all of a sudden she came back to the phone to tell me it failed!
She looked and looked but could not find the tooth! I said well Deb all I can say now is when you feel something biting your ass you'll know the tooth is getting ready to come out! The rock said oohhhhh okkkk !!! TRUE STORY!!!
Good luck with your new pearlys!!!!

There is a video on U-Tube of a older woman skydiving, she has someone holding on to her and is laughing and in the middle of it her teeth fall out ...Im sorry but it is about the funniest thing I have ever seen. I keep thinking of being on the ground and getting hit in the head with those teeth!!!!!!!!

Good Luck with your set.

Hey Moonchild.....He may not have been lying? As long as they weren't financed and he owned them free and clear then technically they were his teeth.

Oh I so have to post on this one......
One morning I received a call from my coworker L and she was totally frantic that she lost something and couldn't come in. 5 min. into the conversation I finally understood that she had lost her teeth (I kept thinking she lost her key) and she'd be in once she found them.
Shortly after I composed myself from that call my boss calls me into his office, goes..hey L just called in, I couldn't really understand what she was saying she seemed so upset she could barely talk but I think she said she lost her key and couldn't come in today. It took all I had not to bust out laughing, so just nodded mmmhmmm ok, let me go right now to see what needs to be done, boy I barely made it back to my desk I was laughing so hard.
So, next day we found out L had lost her teeth when she came home drunk, guess they were laying right by a tire by her car. Thank god she didn't go driving off to look for them. Of course our boss had to come over and ask her where she found her key, she goes KEY?????

Unfortunetly I'm not into men they would be having a good time you mean right? I haven't been with a woman for years..I ought to hang a sign, well I'm just not that way..Oh well. Read awhile back a story about a guy and a mouse the mouse ripped off the guys dentures and took them home they were found between the walls later there's a thread about it..That was about the funniest I ever heard..But there's some good ones here to dentures always grossed he out chewed up food a real weakness for me from years of my Sisters tortures..I get them in about a week or so..I almost died one night while having them out they were so bad..They told me I had to wait because of healing because my teeth were so bad..I've always been a jokester with women so I really could not be proper I guess that might cost me my sex life, well it's been six years now, what sex life..? Well the tongue is willing...

Reminds me of the scene in "Red River" when Walter Brennan bets and loses 50% interest in his false teeth to the Indian who had 'three ladies'; then they argue over and trade the teeth back and forth for the rest of the movie....so the lesson is:
NEVER BET YOUR TEETH IN A POKER GAME!
