| The Obama Administration... Posted: 8/28/2008 10:57:12 PM | The Future Obama Administration is looking promising compared to the disastrous Bush Administration of the past 8 years. Obama has surrounded himself by COMPETENT LEADERS which make up for his apparent lack of experience. What do you think of Barack's Future Cabinet?
1. Barack Obama = Commander in Chief/President
2. Michelle Obama = First Lady/Legal Issues/Women's Rights
3. Joe Biden = Vice President/Foreign Policy
4. Hillary Clinton = Universal Health Care
5. Bill Clinton = Economy/Finances
6. John Kerry = Military/War Advisor
7. Al Gore = Environment/Global Warming
8. Bob Casey = Ethics/Morality
9. Bill Richardson = UN Ambassador
10. Tim Kaine = Education Reform
What do you think of this possible future Oval Office? Would it work practically?

Whether you like him or not, you really should watch it.....I think, at least.

| The Obama Administration... Posted: 8/28/2008 11:09:33 PM | | He's a good speaker. I don't agree with his opinions on certain things but he is a good speaker. And Denver was totally silent durring the speach. I know because I had to run an eron for my sick niece. The streets were empty. | |

| The Obama Administration... Posted: 8/28/2008 11:43:38 PM | 84,000 people.....think they'll say they were there for the free Stevie Wonder concert? It was a fabulous night. I heard McCain is having trouble filling 10,000 seats. I just looked at old polls from 2000 and 2004. It's been said many times here that both Kerry and Gore lead in the polls consistently, so we should pay no mind to the polls of this election showing Obama ahead all but twice since March. That is not true. Bush led overall in both of those elections. So maybe those people poo-poohing the polls should find another argument.
The judgment Obama has shown thus far in his political life has been impeccable, I can only imagine that will carry through in his governance. He's run the most impressive campaign I've ever followed, and many are saying it's been the most effective in history. His choice of Joe Biden for a running mate was just as Bill Clinton said, he hit it out of the park. If anyone who was on the fence watched that speech tonight and still has doubts about him, they need to electrify the fence. I for one cannot wait to see America get back on track again under an Obama administration!!!

Well, I agree with the Obama (President) , Biden (VP) , Michelle Obama (First Lady) part....
The actual cabinet is a bit more structured:
Secretary of State Secretary of the Treasury Secretary of Defense Attorney General Secretary of the Interior Secretary of Agriculture Secretary of Commerce Secretary of Labor Secretary of Health and Human Services Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Secretary of Transportation Secretary of Energy Secretary of Education Secretary of Veterans Affairs Secretary of Homeland Security
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Cabinet
As to who to place where, I'd hope we see some Republicans on board. I think that would be a good step forward for the country. I'd also like to see some people that differ with Obama , on some of the main issues.
Yes men/ women are not what's needed in the future.
Hillary as possibly Secretary of Health and Human Services ? - Might work well, if she wants it.
Bill Clinton as Secretary of the Treasury ? Umm.......no.
I'd love to see who he picks.

| The Obama Administration... Posted: 8/29/2008 12:01:14 AM | Well, shucks, I thought I'd be the first to address the OP's question, but MG beat me to it. (I thought it was a great speech too, but there are plenty of other threads focused on that)
The people you list are not so much Cabinet candidates as key advisors. His Cabinet will consist be the folks MG cited. The names you list are solid, high profile people and I think he'll listen to each of them, but I suspect he'll also dig deeper to heed advice not only from political leaders but experts whose names we rarely hear, but have a firmer grasp of the details that can make or break any strategy.
Just to focus on two, there are better military advisors than John Kerry, and better climate change strategists than Al Gore.
But most importantly, I have confidence that Obama will stay true to his ideals while acknowledging the need to seek guidance from those who know more than he does about the particulars of how best to achieve his noble goals. He listens as well as he speaks. He'll seek the best long term solutions to our many challenges, and not just shoot from the hip or rely on old tactics to address new problems.

While unlikely, I'd love to see Kerry and Gore around more.
|
| The Obama Administration... Posted: 8/29/2008 12:31:47 AM | | I would too. But the fact that Hillary didn't achieve this during her husband's administration, whatever the reason, doesn't mean that she lacks expertise and good ideas. Personally, I think Obama would be a fool to exclude her from discussion on health care reform. Whatever committee he appoints on this, HAS to include her. | |

Agreed, it would be a shame to exclude her.
She's got a lot of potential to help fight the battles that need to be fought - and I hope Obama and her can agree on the position where she sees the most benefit for the country from all of her background - and one that satisfies her needs, too.
Only time will tell. | |

| The Obama Administration... Posted: 8/29/2008 12:52:09 AM | Doesn't matter if it's true or not. It's the intent and ability to deliver what he hopes he can that is important. McCain will promise a bunch of stuff same as Obama and then, they will have their debates etc. Which you believe can deliver more will decide your vote unless of course you are already decided.
Myself, I want Obama as I like his fervor and promise but at this time, would vote McCain as it is the devil you know thing going on. Obama needs to avoid the same mistake Kerry made which was to keep his policies close to his chest until end game. Nobody knew him as anything but 'not Bush' until it was too late. They went with the devil they knew.

Is there a law that requires the structure to be the cabinet as listed?
If he wanted to change it could he?
hmmmm.... I know that there wasn't always a cabinet structured as is today (some positions are newer) Hadn't thought about the opportunity to restructure before.
Ah, found information. Warning, it is wiki based so I cannot vouch for validity. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Cabinet#Constitutional_and_legal_basis
It means the direct reports in the organizational structure and consists of the 15 called the cabinet (although not referred to as such in constitution except later times such as when John Kennedy made his brother a Cabinet member they passed the 25th amendment not to allow that anymore). It is an "Executive Level 1 pay grade" position consisting, currently, of the 15 slots Bush has (he had at least some name changes if not position changes) and 6 more that are in cabinet meetings and 3 more (Fed researve, SSN, and Intelligence).
Washington only had 4. Many others have been proposed. Kucinich has a group supporting the idea of a Department of Peace, but they didn't list that.

No way no how no mcCain. 8 is enough ... we can't take more of McSame.
I will leave it to you to call him a devil. I won't dispute that; although I am more likely to agree with Obama that McCain just doesn't get it. Apparently he isn't the only one.

Cynicism. Destructive cynicism.
Dare to DREAM! AND to use your REASON!
And given the difference between 2000 and 2008, I challenge ANYONE to feel comfortable in believing that they "know" McCain.

Yep. Exactly what your founding fathers thought.
"Rebellion....revolution.....are you guys NUTS ? We have it pretty good here, the British aren't THAT bad ? High taxes ? The English pay far more than we do ? Hey.....put DOWN that barrel of tea young man !!!! '
In this case , the Devil you know may be leading you through the gates of Hell.

Thank you for not limiting her to health care. I think she is a very powerful woman and a wonderful resource for the Obama White House. I agree that she should have the opportunity to put forth where her current passions lie. I'm all for her being able to take on health care if she wants. It is a different time and a different readiness and platform for change. She is coming from a more powerful position. Her results might be very different. I also think she should have the right for choosing what she feels will position her in the future for her next run for the White House.
