With fuel prices and supplies on the top of many Americans' lists of concerns, shouldn't we, as ordinary citizens, have an expectation that politicians will get their butts off private and military jets and out of the monster SUV's in which we constantly see them and assume positions as role models for the conservation of energy resources rather than as contributors towards the continuation of the problem?

The domestic drilling push is a ruse, best estimates are $2-3 off a gallon of gas by 2020.

I'd rather see them doing something realistic than playing political games with energy..........who cares what they drive.

Obama made a promise to totally cut off oil dependance on the Middle East by 10 years. How viable is this (especially considering he will only be in office for 8 years)?

You caught that too? He also said something about the foreign leaders he would be dealing with for 10 years or so...I guess once he annexes the 7 or so more states he will either overturn the term limits for the presidency or like Papa Doc and Hugo Chavez simply declare himself president for life!

Oh I remember when I could fill my tank for less than ten bucks. Those were the good old days.

Well, I'm not sure Presidential candidates really should be flying commercial business class. The entire plane would be filled up with Secret Service, staffers, and journalists anyway.

Military planes have to fly anyway, simply for training and regular reasons, so letting them hop on board probably isn't a great problem either.

Those monster SUVs and limos are also far more secure (and logical) than seeing them all driving around in Smart cars - or biking to work. It's also pretty difficult to "up armour" a Prius.

It's a fact of life, sadly.

Maybe the US Government can buy the Popemobile or whatever it was called and the President can just travel around in that. It would seem that that would get some good MPG.
