Joe Biden calls for prosecution of George Bush (maybe)Page 1 of 5    (1, 2, 3, 4, 5)
I picked this up on some lesser known news sources:
Sept 3, 2008
Looking to the future but with one eye on the past, Biden also promised that an Obama-Biden government would go through Bush administration data with "a fine-toothed comb" and pursue criminal charges if necessary.

"If there has been a basis upon which you can pursue someone for a criminal violation," he said, "they will be pursued, not out of vengeance, not out of retribution - out of the need to preserve the notion that no one, no one, no attorney general, no president, no one is above the law."

It's just a return to the rule of law. He's not talking about firing someone for not firing your ex-brother-in-law. He's talking about acting legally, and holding people accountable if they haven't.

Obama might pursue criminal charges against Bush

Democratic vice-presidential nominee Joe Biden said yesterday that he and running mate Barack Obama could pursue criminal charges against the Bush administration if they are elected in November.

Biden's comments, first reported by ABC news, attracted little notice on a day dominated by the drama surrounding his Republican counterpart, Alaska governor Sarah Palin.

But his statements represent the Democrats' strongest vow so far this year to investigate alleged misdeeds committed during the Bush years.

"If there has been a basis upon which you can pursue someone for a criminal violation, they will be pursued," Biden said during a campaign event in Deerfield Beach, Florida, according to ABC.

"[N]ot out of vengeance, not out of retribution," he added, "out of the need to preserve the notion that no one, no attorney general, no president -- no one is above the law."

Obama sounded a similar note in April, vowing that if elected, he would ask his attorney general to initiate a prompt review of Bush-era actions to distinguish between possible "genuine crimes" and "really bad policies".

"[I]f crimes have been committed, they should be investigated," Obama told the Philadelphia Daily News. "You're also right that I would not want my first term consumed by what was perceived on the part of Republicans as a partisan witch hunt, because I think we've got too many problems we've got to solve."

Congressional Democrats have issued a flurry of subpoenas this year to senior Bush administration aides as part of a broad inquiry into the authorisation of torturous interrogation tactics used at the Guantanamo Bay prison camp.

Three veterans of the Bush White House have been held in criminal contempt of Congress for refusing to respond to subpoenas: former counsel Harriet Miers, former political adviser Karl Rove, and current chief of staff Josh Bolten. The contempt battle is currently before a federal court.

If they get into office, I think their priority should be in addressing the nations
problems like immigration reform, providing health care for all, and a cohesive energy policy, not playing partisan political games.

I missed the (maybe) President Bush and his administration should be investigated and the allegations that he fabricated information to invade Iraq proven one way or the other, the world may then look at the USA differently. To allow President Bush to walk away from this mess if it was based on lies and fabrication sets the stage for any leader to do the same thing, Over 3 thousand americans have died and many more will never live totally normal lives not to mention the hundreds of thousands of human beings from other countries whose lives have been lost our forever changed.

I want my grandson to grow up proud of his country and safe both from those who are enemies, not just the obvious enemies but from those that are elected to office

I completely agree. This is not about partisan political games. If the Bush government is involved in criminal acts, why should they get a free pass?

I may not be the most political savvy person around concerning American governement, but this screams of planting the seed of doubt in people's minds as a political ploy.

I doubt very much if the American people are so naive as to trust speculation and conjecture over data and facts and that someone would call for details on this prior to arbitrarily determining that criminal charges are in order...

Oh... don't get me wrong... I'm no fan of G.W. either...

I'm surprised that their first move wouldn't be to ratify the United States position in the International Criminal Court and reinstate their acceptance in the International Court of Justice.

Just think, with recognition and ratification of the ICC and ICJ, they can just send President Bush and Vice President Cheney over to the Hague to be prosecuted as War Criminals. Granted, probably about half of our military personnel would also be shipped over and prosecuted as well, but I guess that is a small price to pay to get the real criminals, right?

Bring it on, please... All presidents/rulers/Governments have to break the law, or at least severely bend it, sometimes overtly, sometimes in a clandestine manner - that much is a given, let us not be naive.

But these guy's have taken the p**** beyond belief, and would most likley faces charges of crimes against humanity/fraud/deception....etc etc

For so many people around the world of all nations, it would be a dream come true if members of the Bush administration were faced with charges...whether they are guilty or not, this issue should really be looked at.

Yes please, go through the current administrations dealings with a fine tooth comb, so that America can redeem itself, both in the eyes of the world, and to prevent a slippery slope whereby the rotten empire begins to decay from within.

Any Pres. can pardon anyone including himself. If they ignore the pardon? They may want to pardon someone someday including themself\ves so O'bama will not overrule a pres. pardon.
And asm uch as I hate Bush's presidensy, lying to the public is not illeagle
International courts are a joke. The leaders of powerful nations are immune. Right or wrong.

I think the desperation of the far Left has become so apparent that they have to throw some red meat to their base. What does Biden think Dennis Kucinich's endless calls for Bush's impeachment are?

Joe Biden needs to remember all the video of his many appearances on Meet the Press saying that Saddam Hussein did have WDM, was a threat to the entire world, that U.S. intelligence was credible, and that HE--unlike Obama--supported the war, etc. If they want to criminalize those actions, Biden will be taken in the trap because he voted with Bush on issues of the war.

It's an extremely foolish man who criminalizes policy differences when he is in office because he will be prosecuted when he leaves office. Obama/Biden need to remember that the Republicans have held the Presidency the majority of the last 60 years so even if they win, they likely will be succeeded by a Republican administration. Do they want that administration to prosecute them for "policy differences" when political winds shift?

The whole basis of liberal democracy is that the process is more important than the results.

This action is not only desirable, but necessary. If the leaders can break the law with impugnity, the whole foundation of "equal before the law" is gone. And you're back to Divine Right of Kings.

It will be a sad day in the United States when a new government is allowed to begin its term of office with a purge of its political enemies. The cure, it would seem, is worse than the disease.

It's not about a "purge of political enemies"

It's about criminal activity up to and including treason. This bunch has commited unconscienable crimes for purely partisan purposes. They need to be held to account, or the very system falls into disrepute.

Well, he did say that, but it was only for the audience he was pandering to at that time. The next morning on a Fox and Friends interview, he denied saying it.

I think Cheney might have to be careful where he travels just like Kissinger in the future. Bush will always have plausible deniability I would guess.

I'm not really sure what you're trying to say by half our Military Ezzee? With all due respect I think you owe a whole of folks an apology cause you're certainly not asking them to desert, right?

For those that serve the thanks of far more than half a nation.

I like Biden alot more now that I read this. Thanks for posting. I'd love to see Bush, Cheney, Rummy and the rest tried for war crimes...
they should pay the price for hundreds of thousands of innocent lives murdered because of their war of lies.

The issue needs to be looked at seriously."Rule of law" needs to be taken seriously as it is a corner stone of democracy.Bush has given more powers to the presidency and given the position immunity.

A Harvard Law professor recently has come out with a book that concludes president Bush has more powers than King George of England .Its time for another revolution.....
Democracy is on the line.....
This is a non-partisan issue.
