| Female MMA Posted: 9/6/2008 2:07:33 AM | Karo Parisyan has been particularly vocal in his opposition to this.
Personally I haven't got a problem with it, especially since as time goes on the quality of the matches are generally getting better.
How about the rest of you?

Female MMA has got him in a state of panic.
My favorite female fighter is Julie Kedzie. She's awesome.

| Female MMA Posted: 9/6/2008 1:32:57 PM | | I love it, personally. They promote a LOT of female fights here at Hook N Shoot, the local event. Some of those women would kick most men's asses. | |
|
| Female MMA Posted: 9/10/2008 10:21:38 PM | | i find only the elite level matches interesting. every female MMA match ive ever seen has been a barnburner. | |
|
| Female MMA Posted: 9/10/2008 10:33:53 PM | | I've seen some euorpean female MMA fights on youtube, but these women were pulling hair trying to drag each other down and put each other into a submission move that way, I'm like WTF is this???? As long as it doesn't turn out like that i'm all for it. | |

Yeah...I don't think they could turn into something like that, considering everything is sanctioned through athletic commissions and they have to follow the same rules as the guys. I've seen some AWESOME female MMA fights though...went to an all woman card and they were some of the best fights I've ever seen.

| Female MMA Posted: 9/12/2008 11:41:55 PM | There is no justifiable position for being against female MMA. All of the arguments I've heard against it are usually just relations of subjective "gut" feelings (ie, "I just couldn't watch that!") or else they rely on shameless stereotypes of women (ie, "They can't fight as well," "They are too beautiful and will look ugly beaten up"). None of it really holds up to any scrutiny.
I'm so progressive, I think women MMA fighters should be able to compete with the men. In general, I can see the purpose of bracketing groups if gender differences affect skill greatly. What I wouldn't like to see is something like we've seen in golf recently, with women moving to the men's league to compete with them. That seems unfair, because if a woman can move up to the men's league, why couldn't a mid-ranking guy in the man's league move over to the women's league where he would be more likely to earn more prize money and achieve a higher rank? Once that is done the dividing line sort of loses its purpose. Either throw them all in together or keep them forever separate.
|
| Female MMA Posted: 9/13/2008 8:35:59 AM | the fact is that women have just as much right to compete as men. My experience watching bodog and Hardcore Championship fighting has been that the women featured really put on a hell of a show.
For the record, I used to referee pro wrestling and the best match I was ever involved in had Beth Phoenix against Sumi Sakai(who spoke NO english)...it was unbelievable!!!
|
| Female MMA Posted: 9/13/2008 8:57:52 AM | | It will be great when other fighters besides Big Gina start getting attention. There are many women fighters who fight more often and are more devoted to the sport. Big Gina is more interested in TV shows. | |
|
| Female MMA Posted: 9/14/2008 7:35:07 AM | | If they want to do it, go for it. I just personally couldn't see myself watching it. | |
|
| Female MMA Posted: 9/14/2008 11:57:57 AM | | I agree...couldn't see myself interested in it whatsoever. | |
|
| Female MMA Posted: 8/12/2009 3:46:33 AM | I would love to see a tuff show for females.. I use to train and you have no idea how hard it is to arrange a fight.. I trained with guys because thats mostly who train..I dont spar with anyone who doesnt want to.. I realize I have breasts and it makes some people uncomfortable esp.. if I'm in full mount or guard..whatever.. But as far as woman fight.. there exciting.. esp now that were getting better... If you look at my pics with Lisa Ward.. Liz poesner and Taral arosa.. these girls rock.. there exciting to watch.. and they kick ass!!! There are all womans cards in spokane and they sell out EVERY time.. as soon as people see there is money to be made.. .. and that woman have skills.. then Danan will open his eyes.. | |

I can't wait for the Carano/Cyborg fight. Gina better bring it! Cyborg is a scary tough chick!
And heres what's great about this one - I think think this fight has more intriuge and anticipation than any womens boxing match in the last ten plus years. No mistake about it, Conviction and the Cyborg are both the real deal.
|
| Female MMA Posted: 8/12/2009 8:32:46 AM | Hey, i am all for this as long as they fight someone like Boy George or Elton John!!! | |
|
| Female MMA Posted: 8/12/2009 10:54:02 AM | This is a topic that is very dear to my heart because I have a few female friends that are amateur and professional fighters. And I'm going to be cage side for Carano/Cyborg, which should be awesome.
My opinion is that athletes are athletes no matter what their gender. Some like tennis and some like punching people. Thats just the way it is.
In complete honesty, I dont think I could ever date a woman who fights, but that is a personal thing and has nothing to do with my belief that women should have similar opportunities.
And to the guy who said that the women put on good shows: there is no doubt about that. The girls really bring it and they are getting more proficient and technical as the days go by.
If you want to see a really tough woman, I suggest checking out Sarah Kaufman. She is freaking awesome.
|
| Female MMA Posted: 8/12/2009 1:57:29 PM | Absolutely, I would give anything to be there for Strikeforce this weekend.
I've got a woman in my BJJ class who's incredibly talented. She's one of my favorite people to roll with, because she's got such a good sense of the way things work. I was one of those guys who had the sort of gut "I couldn't watch that!" thing going but after a few weeks seeing her tap out the guys any concerns I have are looooong gone.
Pumped for Carano/Cyborg, but there aren't that many marketable female fighters right now.
|
| Female MMA Posted: 9/7/2009 4:02:45 AM | | I miss bodog..... Gotta love Tara larosa...any chick with 2 califlour ears and is still in playboy wins my respect. | |
|
| Female MMA Posted: 9/7/2009 5:28:23 PM | This thread starts and ends with the best fighter of the past 25 years.
Lucia Rijker. She has obliterated every opponent she has ever fought. Except Somchai Jaidee...but Jaidee was a pretty solid interim Muay Thai champ. And it's a he.
|
| Female MMA Posted: 9/9/2009 2:29:58 PM | Sarah Kauffman
Unbeatable atm. | |
|
| Female MMA Posted: 9/12/2009 9:01:25 AM | I watch MMA all the time and have never seen the female fighters. No pay per views or programs except for a show called "Girl Fight" on the Oxygen channel and that is the closest I have come to it.
What channels, if any, can I see these on. Mixed Martial Arts is banned in New York.
|
| Female MMA Posted: 9/12/2009 3:34:22 PM | Rijker isn't an mma fighter.
Tho I wish would have got into earlier in her life.
I totally support women's MMA. I think it's great.
And Rijker losing to that guy was nasty. That KO was brutal.
|
| Female MMA Posted: 9/12/2009 4:28:51 PM | Crazy says "I got one name gina carano"
I've got a better one for you "crazything84" CYBORG!!
|
| Female MMA Posted: 9/14/2009 11:15:15 AM | I got one name gina carano
Gina Carano is a paper cut out she wants the fame but doesn't want to work for it she thinks she can get by on her pretty looks.
She had her as.s handed to her Cristiane Santos in the last Strikeforce fight.
Cristiane Santos is the new face of Women's MMA.
