| Are we to fall for FEAR again, or is this the time we finally vote the bums out! Posted: 9/6/2008 2:58:34 PM | Well based on what I seen in the two political conventions, the campaign trail, and here in these forums:
The Republicans have no new ideas, they have nothing new to offer, They don’t even have a credible VP candidate. The Maverick died in 2005, and nobody noticed it because the body that housed the "Maverick" is still walking and talking today. They have put this country, its citizens, its military, its economy, its reputation, and its future on the Rack and stretched it to near breaking points. They have not offered an apology to the people of this country, much less any others who have been adversely affected by OUR foreign policy, but yet they arrogantly sit there and ask for your votes without doing anything to earn it.
The arrogance of these people to tell you to vote for them and their "values", and yet they have no respect for anyone outside of their "values". They don’t even have respect for their political base since they do not even respect the values they tout as their own. Values are being used much like Gay Marriage, and Liberal V. Conservative before it; a divisive tactic to confuse the voter into voting for them to maintain power all the while the serve their real constituents which is big business. We Vote them into Power, and then they decide what power we should have. We Choose to Vote them into Power, and then they vote to take away our freedoms to choose. We Give them the control of the public, they control our right to privacy. We Give them the power to Represent us, then they reprimand us for not blindly following. We give them the power to protect us, They fail miserably and then attempt to scare you into giving them another chance using their failure as the reason.
1. They don’t value the worker, 2. They don’t value your religious freedoms (that includes religions outside of evangelicals or people who don’t subscribe to religion at all), 3. They don’t value the poor, 4. They don’t value the peoples need for healthcare, 5. They don’t value the diversity in ethnicity, religious beliefs, political beliefs. 6. They don’t value our intelligence and individualisms, to see through the rhetoric to get to the real issues. And a good portion of us have made them believe this to be true. They Pander to your fears, prejudices, mistrust, misunderstanding, and promote their own self righteousness. They give you NO plans to reverse the issues that THEY PUT IN PLACE WHICH HURTS YOU. And what’s even more insulting is that they aren’t trying to hide the fact that for them “this election is not about the issues, but the personalities”
They give you political hacks like Sarah Palin who ducks and hides from the people she's a heartbeat away from governing except to deliver "red meat" speeches to attack those who do offer you an alternative to the lives your currently struggling to live. A person with no grasp of the issues foreign or domestic except for what They tell her, and one who has a history of political abuses for which she is currently being investigated for. Someone who’s lack of good financial management left a town in debt, and outright lies about what she did and did not do during her tenure in Alaska are leaving serious questions in the minds of potential voters vis-à-vis her refusal to address these issues.
On one side of the equation you Have Barack Obama and Joe Biden who say that with some sacrifice and personal responsibility as well as hard work and unity, the people can come together, each using their own talents to raise the families, the communities, the states, and the country from the bottom up. Doesn’t that message sound a lot like what the Conservative ideals are supposed to be??
On the other end you have John McCain and Sarah Palin, telling you outright blatant LIES. They contrast a campaign that offers hope for the future, and the ability for the people to fix our own situations, with ruthless baseless attacks day after day. Understandably there will always be a little ribbing of the opponents in a convention and some was offered by the Democrats towards the Republicans as well, but the key difference is: One Campaign talked a little bit about the other side as far as false promises, then got back to the ISSUES. How do we fix the economy, where will the money come from, how we fix our current job situation and at the same time get off of oil as our principle source of energy. How to repair our reputation worldwide, and keep roofs over our heads stateside. One campaign told us to believe in not just the man running for office, but more importantly to believe in OUR ability to fix this country.
On the Other hand the Other Campaign told us who to FEAR, (Remember 9/11 and how scared you were then? remember that, remember that, remember that!), Cue the Video of the 9/11 attacks, show the people so they can remember that Bin Laden is still out there and we must fear him. We must remember that only the Republicans can stop him. (Never mind the fact the almost 7+ years later we are still no closer to catching him, and the Taliban are making a come back in Afghanistan) 1. Fear Taxes on the middle class (but who helped the rich pay less and you pay more? Not to mention who ran up deficits in 3 years to triple that of 50+ years of cold war?), 2. Fear gay marriage, cause they will effect straight marriage (But except for Mass. Being the only state to allow it as recently as less than 4 years ago, Divorce among straight couples has been increasing at record numbers for DECADES!) 3. Fear Job loss (but never mind it was the Grand Old Party majority in the White House, Legislative, and Judiciary branches which allowed the record shipping of jobs overseas). 4. Fear Terrorist, (But never mind our foreign policy which caused people to go from wanting to be like us, to hating our hypocrisy. Turn a blind eye to our medaling with other nation’s leadership, and afflicting their people with puppet dictators under OUR control ……… even if for only a little bit) 5. Fear Losing The War (but never mind that we should not have been there in the first place since Bin Laden is supposed to be the guy who attacked us. Forget about the fact that WE FUNDED AND ARMED BIN LADEN AND THE MUJAHADIN IN THE 80's under R. Reagan. And forget about the fact that not only did Saddam try to warn the United States about the plans of Bin Laden to attack us on 9/11 but he had nothing to do with the attacks what so ever. Additionally none of the other reasons for the war were true i.e. No WMD, No Link to Al-qaeda, and No Iraqi funding or training of Al-qaeda. Never mind the fact that the Iraqis’ want us out of their country) 6. Fear Social Programs they will raise your taxes. (but never mind the 10 billion per month going to Iraq to pay both sides of the sectarian violence to stop fighting, or squandered and conveniently lost... never getting to the innocent people it was supposed to help after we tax payers paid billions to bombed them back to the stone age. Never mind the Iraqi government has an 86 billion dollar oil surplus, has intimate ties to Iran, and now will sell the oil that our soldiers bled for to,…. of all places ....... China!) 7. Fear Government oversight of U.S corporations, and taxing the corporations fairly. (But never mind that while you struggle with the highest fuel costs for home heating, and driving your car. You have this same party giving tax breaks to corporations who are making record profits off your backs. They claim that Obama’s plan to tax corporations will cause them to ship jobs overseas and that small businesses will get slammed and have to close doors cutting jobs as well, but they don’t tell you that Trucking / Aviation / Maritime Shipping transportation of people and goods has suffered drastically with the quadrupling cost of fuel. They don’t tell you about the numbers of Airlines, number of Maritime Shipping companies, and especially the number of Trucking companies that have went bankrupt, closing their doors, and laying off hundreds of thousands of people right here in America.), and yet the jobs are being shipped over seas anyways. 8. Fear The Liberals/Progressives because they hate America first, want to appease the terrorist, want to make everyone gay, gonna use the liberal media to ruin our families and get our teenage daughters pregnant, hate god, hate church, hate freedom, hate corporations that trickle work down to us the peasants. (But what the don’t acknowledge is the fact the Liberals/progressives have fought hard wars, fought for freedom, made hard decisions, don’t own the media [look at who the media big Whigs contribute to the most], go to church, love god, have the same family issues, and are good at protecting the people of this country as well as defending the rights of others abroad. We have stood up to axis powers of WWII [the real Axis, not some made up fear tactic], and the soviet union during the Cuban Missile Crisis. the closest we ever came to actual Nuclear War. We Don’t subscribe to the proven false policies of trickle down since almost 20 years of it being practiced under Reagan, Bush SR., and Bush Jr. and yet the rich keep getting Richer at the expense of the poor and now what used to be Middle Class. We signed into laws the civil rights act to ensure that ALL Americans can achieve the American Dream and Now have an Man of African Heritage, a well spoken, highly articulate, highly educated, intelligent, Christian, Man who lives “family Values” and truly cares for the poor and middle class, not just making political speeches about it. One who lives the Ideals the Conservative leaders can only preach about ……. Nominated as the head of the Democratic Party.)
So this is an Example for you to consider, for yourselves, for your families, your friends, your communities, your states and your nation as a whole.
What have those who offer Fear really have to offer to you? What Promises have they made that you can believe they will keep considering not only the makeup of their campaign managers and advisors and their campaign contributors? What will you say at the end of 2009 going into 2010? Will you either have real change of the abysmal situation we currently find ourselves in, or we have more of the same policies and politics that lead us to the point that we're currently in?
Who can you blame for your situations at that point if you chose not to take a stand now? 1. Will you blame Gay's? 2. Will you blame Minorities? 3. Will you blame Immigrants? 4. Will you blame Liberals/progressives? 5. Will you blame Democrats? 6. Will you blame Social Programs? 7. Will you blame Terrorists? 8. Will you blame The Russians? 9. Will you blame The Chinese? 10. Will you blame Big Oil? 11. Will you blame Corporations? 12. Will you blame Pharmaceuticals? 13. Will you blame Predatory Lenders? 14. Will you blame Evangelicals/Religious Right? 15. Will you blame Clinton/Gore? 16. Will you blame Bush/Cheney? 17. Will you blame McCain/Palin? 18. Will you blame Obama/Biden? 19. Will you blame Conservatives? Truth be told: there are some on this list that have nothing to do with the current situation, some who warned against allowing this situation to happen, some who are a convenient scape goat, some who are antagonists of the situation, Some who designed the destruction of America from the inside, some who followed the plan of destruction out of fear, and some who took complete advantage of situations to get what they wanted.
"But If you’re looking for someone to blame, look no further than your own mirror!" - V. Check out this Link below from “V for Vendetta” and think carefully about how it applies to our country, our times, our situations, decide for yourself what this means for us as we decide to finally stand up and reject the politics of fear. And who wants to control us using that same fear.

After All it is we the people who decide who represent us, it’s we the people who allow the politicians to guide us either up the mountain or into the ditch. It’s We the people who can either go with the new face with the untried way that offers hope for a better future with hard work and sacrifice, or pick the "safe" path in which we don’t expect much of ourselves nor our government and there for cant be too upset when all the rhetoric and the country circles the drain.
“The Republicans have to own their failures, and We have to move forward” - Barack Obama
With that I close with the simple statement from the same movie that rings so true to real life:
"“The People should not fear the Government, The Government should fear the people” –V.
Obama/Biden 2008-2016 Change We Can Believe IN, For A Stronger America. Because 4 to 8 more years of the same is a remedial lesson we can’t afford to learn again.

| Are we to fall for FEAR again, or is this the time we finally vote the bums out! Posted: 9/7/2008 12:34:48 PM | Exactly why I am voting for Obama/Biden in 2008! The Republicans prey on people's fears and the propaganda is fodder for the uninformed and anti-intellectual. More reasons why I am choosing the Democrats: 1. Palin abandoned the Catholic Church and is now a vocal critic of it. She joined the Assembly of God church (Pentecostal) and her views are so extremethat the McCain team won't even mention them on t.v. There was an excellent article in the Wall Street Journal about her beliefs and the beliefs of the church to which she belongs. It makes me frantic when people profess to 'love her' when they don't really anything about her yet. She is a certified 'kookball' . McCain simply chose her for political reasons...so much for 'country first'. 2. Under the Republicans we spent over a trillion dollars on a ridiculous war, money that could have been spent to provide health care to Americans, to repair our infrastructure, improve education, and create new terrorism prevention mechanisms here at home. These are the issues that need to be addressed. I would rather have a billion dollar deficit for these programs for a war that was neither necessary nor appropriate. 3. I believe in achieving the ideals of freedom, equality, and liberty and justice for all not just a select few. I also firmly believe in separation of church and state. We have churches to guide our individual moral choices. We don't need a government doing the same thing. We need a government who governs for ALL the people. 4. John McCain, who has been in Washington for ages now, now paints himself as a 'maverick'. Obama saw a thirst for 'change' and built the momentum in this country. McCain is more of the same. If Palin was so great why didn't the Republicans pull her into Washington in the last 8 years? If she's such a dynamic Republican change agent, why didn't they draw on her experience during the Bush years? He could have used it. 5. McCain's been in Washington for so many years, yet he cannot even pronounce it correctly, he calls it WARshington...could that be because there is war in it? 6. The issue of activist judges shows again the desire for the Republicans to promote legislation that they themselves see fit. At lease Democratic policies are 'inclusive' rather than those of the Republican's whose policies are 'exclusive'. Judges are elected to have the insight to interpret the law - especially in social issues where issues can be colored by politics, religion, or prejudice. Think about the right of women to vote. Women would not have the right to vote had it not been for judges who saw the reality that women should be equal and have that right. If the issue had been put to a public vote prejudice of men would never have approved of the right of women to vote. The same could be said to end Apartheid in America. 7. With regard to blacks classifying themselves as African-American and those people who disapprove of the term. To this I say, it is extremely important to recognize the fact that Africans did not VOLUNTARILY come to this country. The Dutch, Germans, and Portuguese, set up the slave trade. African-Americans did not have the same immigration trend as the Irish, Polish, Germans, etc. In fact, many African-Americans cannot even trace their roots at all. The Republicans damaged this country over the last 8 years, do not reward them with 4 more years of the same old politics as usual. OBAMA/BIDEN 2008 | |

| Are we to fall for FEAR again, or is this the time we finally vote the bums out! Posted: 9/7/2008 12:46:17 PM | | Both sides in this one are using the exact same arguments as have always been used. You have to be young to think any of it is new. Conserve means keep what's good and defend against bad change. Progress means change what's needed and defend against unwise conservatism. These are two sides to the same coin and the arguments never change. You can go back over the history of each perspective and find the same number of mistakes as well as good accomplishments. In this election there are more older people voting and they tend to be more conservative. They also count more racists. The majority of US citizens would favor McCain so it is just a question of who all gets out to vote more. Fear is what conservatives use to inspire voters. Dreams are what liberals use. Fear works better because you need only tap into one fear to bring the voter along, whereas with dreamers, they fight over which dream to follow. So to be effective as a progressive you have to make your message so vague it could represent any and all dreams, while to be effective as a conservative you need only lay out a list of scary things for people to find one that hits home. | |

Which brings me back to my original point, who’s to blame if the republican scare tactics work??
Are we as a nation really that stupid??? Apparently the Republicans think so, and their supporters are not making them feel any different.
"Land of the free, home of the brave" MY ARSE!
Land of the manipulated, home of the scared is much more accurate.

We see their faces in the mirror every day. No need to look any further.
Are we as a nation really that stupid???
Was there ever any doubt? But hopefully, there are signs of an awakening. (But perhaps I'm being overly optimistic. I hope not otherwise, we are screwed big time).
Are we as a nation really that stupid???
Of course. That's a no-brainer.
