Strange and peculiar true animal storiesPage 1 of 1
One of my cats died last week very suddenly. Even the vet was shocked. But I think the cat knew that this was coming. He acted so loving just previous to this. Now that he is gone, the other three cats are acting very oddly. They are sticking to me like glue, sitting on my lap and staying with me through the night. Just a few minutes ago, I discovered one of them lying at my feet under the desk, a place where he would never have hung around in before let alone laid down there. This same cat now stands on my lap and puts his paws over my shoulder, lying across me like this at times as if to comfort me. Animals know so much more than we think.

One of my cousins had a fire in her house years ago. She raised Newfoundland dogs and had a particularly smart one. She and her husband were awakened by this dog when the fire broke out. No telling what would have happened if the dog had not done this.

Got any strange and peculiar true animal stories?

I have several, but I'll start with this one. My Grandfather was a big fan of duck hunting and insisted that we be involved in learning to shoot his guns and also hunt with him. This paticular time it was my turn to go. We loaded up the two springer spaniels and headed out to the lake. This was their first trip to this lake. It was a 4 hour trip. We made it to our cabin and settled in for the night. The next morning at the break of dawn we were out hunting, dogs in tow. Jacob took off chasing something neither of us saw. Anyway long story short the dog got lost. I was soooo sad and insisted we not leave without finding him. We did search and call all that day. The next morning we got up to leave and again searched and called out to Jacob. I think I cried the whole way home. Anyway when we pulled down the long drive there was Jacob wagging his tail and waiting for us. He made it home before we did. He had never made the trip home before and somehow managed to find his way some 250 miles in less than a day!!! No more tears for me lol I was so happy

Debi, that is incredible! I've heard of animals doing that, but not known anyone who experienced it. That must have been horrible leaving without him.

True story - we had a dog that committed suicide once. Somebody dropped off this really oooold german shepherd at a neighbor's house and my mom took it in. One day a few months later my dad was cutting down a cedar tree with the dog sitting nearby watching. When the tree was ready to come down, the dog got up and walked right underneath it. I couldn't make this up...

When I was a kid, my mom bought me and my brothers 3 ducklings for Easter. Yeah, the ones that were tinted green, pink, or blue with food coloring. We lived in the country, and raised the ducks to ducky-adulthood. They were fun pets, but eventually outgrew their pen. And the neighbor's dog was making menacing advances. My mom decided that we should deliver them to a pond on the UNCC campus. We loaded the duckies in the car and drove to the campus. We waited while the ducks meandered down to the pond to make friends with the other ducks. Two of them did dive right in and seemed to acclimate well. The third one simply would not make the walk to the water. We tried coaxing him, bribing him with food. Nothing worked. I was devastated, because I really wanted to see that he'd make new friends before we left. Finally, my mom insisted that we leave and convinced me that the duck would be fine out there with all of his new friends. As we pulled away in the car, the duck FOLLOWED OUR CAR DOWN THE ROAD.

Oh, my gosh. I cried the whole way home because I wanted my mom to turn around and pick up our little (BIG) duck. I can still see the little guy waddling as fast as his little legs would go, chasing our car. I guess he didn't consider flying. I hope his brothers and sisters called him back to the water.

I had a grasshopper stalking me once....He'd sneak up on me and I'd shoo him off. After awhile I'd chase him down and pitch him about 10 feet out in the water with a 3' concrete seawall. He'd make his way back, climb the wall and just stare at me, this happened twice. When I wasn't paying attention he's start back toward me and stop when I looked at him. I was reading a book so I didn't pay that much attention until he made it back and starting climbing up my leg, again, for the third time. This time I chased him down, threw him 15' out in the water and watched him having a difficult time getting back as the wind had changed direction. after about 60 seconds a fish come up and with one extremely fast gulp my problem ceased to exist.......Now you're thinking this guy is just plain whacked, but this is a tru story and really happened in Punta Gorda, Fl. They even have redneck grasshoppers down here........I also had buffalo in my yard one night in Fremont Ohio....Imagine that call to the sheriff dept at midnight on a saturday......"Are you sure they're just not cows" They weren't...lol

Whack is someone throwing you into the sea so a large creature might eat you. You are a sorry excuse for a person. Did youir parents raise you to torture and torment insects? Wonder what ever happens to children that pull the wings out of grasshoppers when they were children.

Okay, for all you cat lovers out there..... My sister (buckeyecutie) and I had this cat when we were growing up and for some reason, she would start at one end of our apartment, run like hell, then, at full steem, she would run up the curtains and across the curtain rod!! Sometimes, she would stay there for a while, then run down. I always thought she was rather weird (DA!!). but my sister always defended her. lol

My dad always had fox hounds. After running them one night, two of them did not come back. We hunted high and low for a couple of days with no luck. I was six or seven at the time. We drove to a house in Gnadenhutten, but dad would not let me go in with him. He came out, and we drove a while, stopped, and walked a little ways down a trail. There the dogs were. An old lady lived in that house, and she was a fortune teller. I probably wouldn't believe it either, but I was there.

I have three crows that nest in a big tree up the hill from my house. They stay year round. When I am in the yard, these crows seem to know me. Once, I looked up and all three of them were perched on the roof next door, lined up and peeking over the side at me. If I am in the front yard, I see them in the trees in the front of the house. If I am in the backyard, I see them in the trees in the back. Really odd! And I honestly think they followed me to work one day. At certain times in the mornings, these three crows are joined by a whole host of birds in the big tree up the hill. I bet there is at least 25 crows up there. The noise is incredible! Reminds me of Alfred Hitchcock's, "The Birds." But I am really fond of these crows. Crows are really intelligent and it has been proven that they can recognize people.
