Nothing is more annoying to go to the forums and find several Topics being posted on in sept, of 08 and the previuos post was made on jan, of 06
... and this is of an annoyance why? What does it matter when a subject was last discussed? other than perhaps some time sensitive topics like in the Current Events.
The forums are topic based - whereby you give your opinion on the merits of what was posted, and not basing your reply on who posted. The thread can still progress with someone else responding to your on topic statements, or to the Original post.

In any event, this has been brought up numerous times and doesn't need to be rehashed given the explanation in the prior link as to why or why not.
Aren't we supposed to do a thread search and find existing threads before starting a new one? Isn't that why redundant threads get deleted?
