It depends if you like debating/arguing and if your partner's views on anything differentiating from your own will force you to strangle him/her.
2. Would you date someone from a different Political Party than you?
Absolutely. My ex-boyfriend was a staunch Republican. I'm a stubborn Democrat. We never agreed on anything politically, and it made for fabulous foreplay.
3. Do you think Political Incompatibility could cause Relationship Problems?
Unless either party takes it too seriously, no. | |

Posted: 9/13/2008 12:20:08 AM | For me it's very important. I hate to argue, especially about politics, and I've been surrounded by people on the, er, other side of the aisle all my life, so maybe I just need to hear some people who think like I do!
Although there are some issues that I can handle if someone thinks a little differently than I do, but then there are others that there MUST be agreement. | |

But generally, I've dated more republicans than democrats (and I'm the latter), but it matters to me what KIND of republican the guy might be. I could never date an evangelical, serious right-winger, but an economic conservative is a different thing from a racist, sexist, bible-thumper. I can easily date a a REAL conservative, but I could never date a serious right-winger. It's a question, when those things come into play, of just being able to respect someone as a thinking person...and not a HATER. | |

I would date someone from a different political party as long as we could agree to disagree and neither of us would browbeat the other one to accept our political ideas. By the way, Arnold and his wife are of opposite sides of the Political Spectrum. Does anyone know how this has affected their relationship/marraige? A Republican Governor in a Democratic State with a Democratic Wife. Strange, eh?
If the Governator can do it, shouldn't anyone else be able to?

I couldn't consider a long term relationship (LTR) with a person who supports pre-emptive stikes against nations. Billions wasted and, more importantly, thousands killed.
I couldn't consider a LTR with an abortion extremist ... either extreme
I couldn't conside a LTR with a person who attempts to impose their religious beliefs on someone else.
I couldn't consider a LTR with a person who mistreats the working class American in order to line the pockets of the wealthy with tax cuts for the wealthy.
I want someone who shares my values about taking the profit motive out of health care... all aspects. Making money out of sick people is just ... sicko.
I don't care what party they are in so long as they vote ... and don't vote McCain this time. If they share my values and vote a 3rd party that is fine with me.

No.
It's a democracy, and you are free to choose who you want to choose politically. That's exterior to the relationship, if you have the same orientations on a personal level. That's all that counts.
2. Would you date someone from a different Political Party than you?
Absolutely.
I was married to someone that was a separatist, and wanted to break up my country as part of her political beliefs as a nationalist. My country almost did break up , twice, in referendums during the time we were together.
Never caused one problem, and we'd go to the polls together...and effectively cancel out each others vote - as we did in each and every election we ever participated in while together.
We still went, and did so enthusiastically.
3. Do you think Political Incompatibility could cause Relationship Problems?
Not at all, with two rational people. Politics is politics, and life is life. | |

Please don't be so logical and level headed. It puts me off my game in the other threads. 
If there are any dudes out there with a Hannity outlook (O..K... not too much of a chance on this site) and is seeking a gun totin' marksmanship capable (excluding the hunting except for absolute food sources), target shoots - at firing ranges - for relaxation, neocon female, just give me a holler (that's Southern for hello). | |

Think about it for a moment.....
They really are the SAME, if you drop the political orientation each have. 
It kind of reminds me of those old cartoon shorts , with Sam Sheepdog and Ralph Wolf.
They walk in with their lunch buckets, say hello to one another, and then get on with the jobs they have to do because of who and what they are.

I am an independent and will vote any party because I vote for the person, not just a party. Yes, I believe political incompatibility can cause a lot of friction in a relationship. Been there. I will only go out with guys who have an open mind and can think for themselves, not someone who has sold out to a "party" and votes like a zombie for whomever the party tells them to. It is the same with religion. I could never date a religious fanatic or a Bible beating Baptist or a Jehovah's witness for example because they are always trying to shove their agenda down your throat, just like a political party. | |

so, i guess that, if i ever decide to date again, i'd date almost exclusively democrats or independents.
i have close republican friends, one of whom feels the need to scream his opinions in my ear every time i talk to him. i stopped trying to reason with him long ago and now i just say 'ok...right...sure.' then he asks who i'll vote for, and i'll answer 'obama.' and he'll start again. last week he threatened to call my parents and yell at them! lol! my father would send him scurrying away with his tail between his legs! no one has ever won an argument with my father, but i always enjoy watching someone try. | |

Posted: 6/4/2009 12:19:45 PM | 1) If your views of the world, people, etc. and how to approach problems is very different, you may actually be lacking some compatibilities. The question that determines whether there will or will not be a problem is whether the two can respectfully agree to disagree and respect the why behind each others' reasoning.
2) I am independent. I like to get everyone's perspective. I learn more the more that I interact. I side with one party on some things and the other party on other things. So long as I respect the reason behind which a person takes a stance, I am fine. The more that someone can discuss any topic and share their thoughts, the more that I respect them.
3) I believe that it can but it doesn't have to. Extremists of any discussion will usually find problems whether there are some inherently or whether they can find someone that does not completely agree to support their righteousnes. | |

Absolutely. I only date Christians because I want to know whoever I marry forever. I believe in being "equally yoked", "like minded", and "one flesh". I believe in emotional, spiritual, and physical fidelity, and want someone who also believes in those things.
2. Would you date someone from a different Political Party than you?
No. I have before, but will not now. It's a total waste of time, but since I date only other Christians, this is never an issue.
3. Do you think Political Incompatibility could cause Relationship Problems?
Absolutely. If a woman tells me she is an Obama supporter, I know immediately we would have MUCH bigger issues than mere political differences... | |
