ok, lets keep it clean!
just a general request from anyone with something positive or inspiring to say and to help all or some of us bachelor types to clean up our acts a little.
around the home, i've heard it said that "a womans touch" is what makes a house a home. so c'mon folks! what are the little things we can do to improve ourselves around the house?

Hey Vandy...interesting thread..

MMMmm fresh flowers...not that I expect guys to go out and buy flowers for themselves and stick them in a vase but hey they do add atmosphere to a place...plant...probably more practical.....scatter pillows, dont know why but they always look good on the lounge or bed, just proof that someone lives there...photos ...random photos of whatever, but not too many of the ex hanging around, maybe a subtle one if this person is still relevant in your life...just some photos that are interesing enough and have story attached to them...and a pet.....a pet makes a home..in my humble opinion...

Oh and real food in the fridge...like food you can eat food.....that still has like a taste attached to it...and doesnt resemble a 3rd year high school science experiment !!!

Have a man friend who has just refurbished his house... the little touch that made all the difference was a palm in the corner where you walk in.

wow yandy!
... umm print your question out and put it on your fridge door? just the notion that you've thought of it should do it!

seriously, batchelor pads that anticipate a female visiting - especially bathroom areas is always appreciated - you might need to peek in a few bathrooms that have had the woman's touch to see any difference.

pretty much anywhere that I wouldn't feel the need to clean before getting comfortable gets my tick of approval : )

a friend's husband recently fell in love with my 'melts' for oil burners (lots of incredible scents from Dusk) even though he used to hate the oil drops she used to burn around their place - I should explain she is one of my dearest friends and her family were staying with me in between houses. She was surprised at him commenting and requesting she buy some. So maybe there's a bonus there if you can find a scent you like.

I think it's just a saying because i guess women tend to be cleaner than SOME men. Always keep your toilet and bathroom clean and no clutter in the bedroom is a start. A nice smell through the house is also nice. Hope this helps.

Which means of course, as pookie says, little touchs, like removing, socks, boots, and any other items of clothes, from off the floor, under the bed, etc.

Hanging up the towels in the bathroom, and putting a little hand towel, near the Laundry tub , so when we have *spent a penny* we can wash our hands at the trough rather than fight our way through the bathroom/or ensuite. We really don`t wish to inspect that room! Well not until much later.....
changing the bed sheets, if you are expecting to do any entertaining there!
Also, washing the dishes instead of piling them in the sink, removing the ash from the ash tray, and taking the line of empty booze bottles out to the Skip bin, rather than lining them up on the bar!
The smell of cigarette ash can be removed by adding some grains of rice to your ash tray and sprinkling some carpet deodoriser into the rice, and around the carpet...... sometimes it helps, if your visitors are asthmatics, they have a cleaner air to breathe.

Its all about letting your home reflect who you are. Tidy is great, clean is good but it should be a comfortable place where you can be you and anyone visiting can feel comfortable in. Take pride in your home shows a pride in yourself and that is attractive to women.

Here's two things that I've found to work, the first thing I did was to hermetically seal off my sons' bedrooms. The other thing I do is encourage my daughters to invite their boyfriends and girlfriends over as frequently as possible...It's amazing how quickly they clean and freshen up the house before the arrival of their sweethearts

Far out.. where do I find kids like that????

Mine couldn't give two hoots, they must be defective. Can I take them back for a refund?

It's easier to visit a 'lived in' place I think... especially for the first time.. we get to see what occupies you. I don't mean leave your stinky footy socks in the middle of the lounge room, or bike parts all over the sink, but the odd project makes for interesting conversations and kind of lets us into your world a little. (whether that be art, sport, work, whatever...)

I like art and photography.. I'll often look to these things for insight into a person, and ask who bought them and why.

Here's a hint though... you're car often reflects your bedroom, did you know that?

Okay if I got your message right, this is my touch

Toilet:
keep your toilet and bathroom nice and clean and keep as little as possible there. Use liquid soap and a fresh towel and clean your toilet and basin with white king.

Bedroom:
keep it simple and use plain bed covers and wash your sheets once a week.

Lounge room

get rid of what you don't use. have a comfy couch with nice big cushions...avoid multi colour and get yourself a nice fish tank put 8 gold fish and black fish and place it in the south East corner of the room.

Kitchen

go to your utensils draw and sort them all out.
go to your cutlery draw and give it a good wipe and sort the cutlery and throw the odds and sods out.
go to your pantry and throw anything out of date out
go to your fridge and throw anything mouldy or out of date out

Laundry

Clean with white king and go to the cupboard and throw anything you haven't used for the past year out.

Wow, I'm so impressed a man is asking this!!

I really like a house that is a home, a home that you can walk into and see it reflects the persons personality at least a bit!

I've noticed that some mens houses are boring with a capital B, there's no personality. An ex of mine kept a clean and tidy house but it was so boring, I bought him a few bits and pieces (that he loved) like a table runner with some funky candle holders, put some framed photos around, I made a few of the frames especially for him and got some photo's I'd taken of him and his son and enlarged them and put them in the frames, he was rapt.

Things that are off putting are girly calendars hung up throughout the house, empty grog cans and bottles strewn around, a filthy dunny (ewww) ~ a tip about the dunny, put some domestos or something similar in the bowl before someone comes around and it smells nice and clean! Fresh bedlinen is always nice, but not your exes flowery patterned ones lol.

I agree with No_Bait ~ candles are fabulous at night time, maybe some incense or an oil burner, something that smells nice ....

I thought I was onto something there, I got lots of ticks happening, but what is with the fish in the south East corner of the room. my sub woofer sits there the fish wouldn't like it unless there flying

However, don't do this...
Every week I used to get a cleaner in.
I had a Polish girl start and her first job was to clean the neglected fridge and freezer.
I told her to take everything out, check the dates and throw out anything old.
Then I left her to it for a hour or so.
I came back to find the fridge sparkling, but just about every single thing gone and in the rubbish.
As we laboriously retrieved and reinstated the food, I found that she had often confused the manufacturing date as the expiry date, and in exasperation had simply binned everything.

I knew a woman whose touch was nothing short of impending disaster. She could have destroyed the British empire single handed by merely strolling through it. I think she was last seen on a transport ship.

Vandy you ol' dog... you're playing right into their hands! (soft as they are). Every woman wants a bloke who's exporing his feminine side... I should take lessons!

Okay I'll concede that you're spot on -
Nice curtains
nice bed linen
used kitchen stuff gets put away
clean bathroom, but with too many products on every ledge available
coordinated pic/posters/rugs
No jocks on the bedroom floor
Pot plants that don't die.

I have a friend that swears that a womans 'touch' is most true, precise and deft..., when it's aimed at a man's wallet !

I didnt say it..., I would never be so....., so...., so publicly masochistic as to say such a thing.

In addition to the above:

Dust. Please dust.

Remove any pornographic paraphernalia.

Hide your medication.

Ask your mother to vacate.

I'm always impressed with a guy who has good taste with his furnishings, not necessarily expensive, but coordinated....and neat and tidy is good, but not to the point that it gets creepy, lol.

Fresh fruit and veges is another good sign, and a nice smelling home...incense etc is great.

A clean bathroom is a must.

And I like fish, so a fishtank that is clean would be very attractive to me.

Hope this helps!

Cheers, Deepy
