| Newbie Posters Directed To Read The Posting Rules Posted: 10/5/2008 5:59:31 AM | Wouldn't it be wise to have a feature that directed all FIRST TIME POSTS to a page that spells out the posting RULES before a newbie poster is allowed to make that final decision to post his/her new thread?
Say they finish typing out their well thought out *cough* piece of prose and just when they're about to hit POST, the page directs them to a full blown, in your face RULES OF POSTING page.....
They're instructed to read said rules before posting or lose ALL privileges of ever posting again!!
Once they've read, they've pretty much "signed" an agreement that says they knew the rules and will forfeit any "rights" if they screw up.
This could very well stop all those dumbass REDUNDANT NICE GUY THREADS or ones that are looking for Profile Reviews in the wrong places or any other such drivel.
Well, waddya think? I know this has been asked and not answered before, so I'm putting it out there NOW because of all the changes going on in the Forums... it might be the perfect time to implement it!
Markus? Are ya with me? | |

| Newbie Posters Directed To Read The Posting Rules Posted: 10/5/2008 6:24:43 AM | ^ I think it's a great idea and I've suggested pretty much the same thing on a couple of occasions, but to no avail...:(
What I thought of is that there could be some sort of questionnaire that one would have to answer and submit before being allowed to post on the forums for the first time.
It seems to me that it would cut the amount of redundant/attention seeking/pity threads by at least half.
Not to mention that the forums would be a nicer and kinder place since everybody would be made aware that flaming/baiting/name calling/ naming another user/etc. is not only against the rules, but of the consequences of breaking those rules.
Yes no...?

Maybe what we need is some form of a trial period for all new members and posters that direct them to the "New Members forum" to get counseling and direction from the "rules and regulations" team that watches it closely?????
This format might also funnel those that truly should not be on a site like "POF", and maybe, just maybe, eliminate some of those "spammers"????
How about a "think tank" committee of some of us that have been here for years and years, actually use the forum for its intended purpose, and the dating site for good reasons, and let us gather together on one of the "Mod" thread locations to discuss possibilities of all that has happened over the years, and how we just might be able to assist with solutions?
I learned long ago that you surround yourself with those that match your abilities, or greater, and use all talents at your disposal to make your intended goal, one that has a smooth transition, and embraces diversity of opinion, style, attitude, and possible solutions........
Just my opinion...... | |

useless.
especially for any one forum addict that knows something about a computer (even a newbie) who knows how to flip their IP address and can easily be back in the threads.
it's like telling people to learn how to read .
your better off talking to a brick wall.

| Newbie Posters Directed To Read The Posting Rules Posted: 11/4/2008 6:47:14 PM | It sounds like a good idea. Dunno about that permanent ban though? There needn't be any penalty. It would just ensure that new posters have some familiarity with the expectations of the community they're about to enter.
Users habits, site wide, are already being logged in all sorts of ways (voting, contacting IE, length of posts et.al) so presumably the system would know if they're a new poster. Maybe serve up the message the first couple of times?
Even if it doesn't lead them to then go on and read the FAQ's properly, at least they get force fed some info. And wow! Wouldn't the sudden appearance of a page saying 'WARNING' in big red letters make anyone think twice?
It would have to cut down on the redundant threads wouldn't it?

| Newbie Posters Directed To Read The Posting Rules Posted: 11/4/2008 7:43:02 PM | Maybe serve up the message the first couple of times? I've sent some ideas in the past to Admin with a few schemes, but the time and effort to implement such measures were deemed not critical.
Minimal Suspensions, with links to the rules are are given out to start, and repeated if necessary is basically the same idea, but are simply ignored for the most part, hence any other schemes short of having a puddle of water with a live wire in it, appear underneath them, would be just as ineffective
especially for any one forum addict that knows something about a computer (even a newbie) who knows how to flip their IP address and can easily be back in the threads When there is no evidence of wanting to conform, and we have to resort to banning them, and if they come back, we can be just as easily persistent in banning them over and over, until they run out of options and just flutter off to Usenet where they can ply their jackassed behaviours there - they're obviously not here for the intended purpose of this site.
