| | The 20 post limit in Ask A forums sucks [CLOSED Thread]Page 1 of 1 | I'm becoming increasingly aware that the 20 fastest responders are also the 20 dumbest responders. While I understand not letting a thread drag on forever, a posting limit doesn't help.
What would help is more aggressive moderation. Particularly, mods need to kill posts that go off the OPs topic. A lot of OPs complain on here about people just whistling off to lalaland with the topic.
One of the best forums on the web is AVS Forum (it ain't a dating site). What makes AVS Forum so good is that if posters go off the rails, their threads are modded off the site.
I think aggressive modding would be the more ideal approach to limiting runaway threads.

| The 20 post limit sucks Posted: 10/13/2008 9:51:01 AM | ...OP, I read your thread about women actually coming out to meet men after chatting on PoF.
I've met three blokes from this site in person - none panned out, but I didn't get chopped up or anything (yay!) so if I were single, I would consider it again... :) Maybe people ARE just playing games, or expecting Mr. or Ms. Right to just *poof* into their laps...I know the dating world is scary / stressful / whatever... for many women. I think it would be ideal if everyone could meet what they're looking for 'organically' - through hobbies and friends and in the 'real world' ... it would take a lot of stress off of the situation in my opinion.
Now...I've tried to answer your question...can you answer mine? And no, I'm not dumb, or silly, or just whistling dixie here. And, I'm not trying to be a pain...but ... why are you so angry? Your posts and your profile come off as just generally p*ssed off. Why? Women run away from angry people...or at least I'd be heading for the hills, and you know that interested folk can track your threads...and you're not doing yourself any favours my friend.
Stay positive, just have fun on the forums, work on your profile, go do what you like best, and it'll happen. Blessings, Pers

| The 20 post limit sucks Posted: 10/13/2008 11:00:56 AM | What drives me nuts on the threads is that there is an entire class of people who seem intent on doing nothing but deciphering everyone's profiles instead of answering the question the OP asks.
Those responses were, at the base of it, immaterial to the question. The question wasn't about initital responses to profiles or inquiries.
The question was about why after people message and message on here, that when the time comes to make a date and show up that they chicken out.
A lot of the responses people post on here amount to blaming the OP for whatever. A lot of people posting on here are just deeply in love with the notion that they're keepin it real. And that is lame. In short, there's a tendency to blame the victim (that isn't quite the phrase I want, but I don't have a better one).
What's even weirder, is that most people reading the threads skip right past the OP, proceed to the profile and conduct an inquisition that has nothing to do with the OP.
It's stupid behavior. And patent stupidity pisses me off.

What would help is more aggressive moderation. Particularly, mods need to kill posts that go off the OPs topic. A lot of OPs complain on here about people just whistling off to lalaland with the topic. It's noted in the rules in those forum re: the above, and when time permitting I enforce it as rigerously as humanly possible - there's at best 1 or 2 Mods tops, and we do as much as time allows.
As also noted in the Advisory Thread in the Ask A forums:
... the beauty is that it avoids lockdown - but then asking people to read anything is at par with bending the laws of relativity.

| The 20 post limit sucks Posted: 10/13/2008 8:46:44 PM | it's starting to look like we can't do anything almost. they're getting so strict on what you can't post it's almost pointless.
now the 20 posts max rule just tops it all off!
is this a forum or a dictatorship?
seriously... | |

is this a forum or a dictatorship? Not quite , but whenever you want to host your own site, then you can do whatever you like, as it stands - not your home, hence not your rules.
See Freedom of Speech.
Since these forums (Ask A ...) are havens for new users who haven't clued in to the House Rules, it's simply a measure to curb inane posts - an example of which would be the above quoted example, espcially after failing to read and comprehending my prior post outlining a solution and work around:
