| Favorite MMA fighters Posted: 10/18/2008 11:09:18 AM | I see there are a lot of knowledgable MMA fans here. Im a huge MMA fan myself, so I was just wondering who are some of yall favorite fighters? Here are a few of mines.
Yves Edwards- I dont care if he hasnt been the same since losing to Hansen in the Bushido tournament. Yves is my favorite fighter ever. I just love to watch his stand up. Its sick. Yves throws the most beautiful punch/kick combinations out there IMO. Plus he is very elusive, rarely taking a full shot. On the ground Yves has a great defensive guard. He doesnt take punishment and is good at reversals. For me though its his striking.
Anderson Silva- Whats not to like about him? Another great striker with amazing skills. He is also good on the ground
Rampage- Rampage is a great character. He is also a great fighter. Tough as nails who wont quit. Ill never forget him smiling during the first Wandy fight when getting repeatedly kneed in the face. I became a big Rampage fan after that night.
GSP- The prototype for the future of MMA. Exceptionally well rounded in all aspects of the game. No weaknesses in any areas of his game. THe only thing with GSP is how is his focus.
Urijah Faber- Just a ball of energy. I love his fearlessness. He is willing to give up his back in attempts to win a fight. He is another well rounded fighter who is very explosive.
Fedor Emelianenko- IMO the best fighter in the world right now. The man just bull rushes you. He fights his fight no matter who you are. Very well rounded and hits like a brick. His only weakness is he cuts easy.
Kid Yamamoto- Another fearless fighter who goes balls out. Not technical on his feet, but has vicious power. He is also a world class wrestler. Kid/Faber would be a dream fight.
Diego Sanchez- I know most people dont like him but I find his fights highly entertaining. His cardio is second to none. He is a tad bit too small for 170 IMO but his cardio makes up for size. His ability to scramble is amazing to watch.
Gina Carano- A thing of beauty. She has an amazing smile. As a fighter Gina has great timing. Her striking is top notch. She is a technically sound fighter who has perfect timing.

| Favorite MMA fighters Posted: 10/19/2008 3:36:11 PM | Favorites: Vitor Belfort (though I think his best days might be behind him), Frank Shamrock, Randy Couture, Anderson Silva, Fedor, Don Frye, Wanderlei Silva, Chuck Liddell, Kazushi Sakuraba, Andre Arlovski, Lyoto Machida, (though many hate his fighting style) CroCop, Bas Rutten, and yes Gina Carano is a babe and a great fighter, but Cyborg just might have her number.
Dislike: Tito Ortiz, BJ Penn (I know I'm probably in the minority on this one, but I just don't like him) Frank Mir, Rampage Jackson, and Matt Hughes most of the time.

| Favorite MMA fighters Posted: 10/19/2008 4:28:08 PM | Here's a list of my top 5 Fighters I like to watch fighting.
#1 - BJ Penn - How can you not like probably the best fighter of our era. I use to not care for the guy, but watching what he's done since he's re-committed himself to the sport is simply...amazing. He's beating top notch fighters like their kids.
#2 - GSP - maybe the most dynamic fighter in the world. Not sure he has a weakness. BJ/GSP II is going to be a TREAT!
#3 - The Spider - Precision striking like no one on the planet. Every punch he throws is meant to decapitate. Bad news for fighters....he's the most accurate striker in the game.
#4 - Rampage Jackson - Most charismatic fighter in the game. I still don't think he lost that fight. You can argue Forest won, but in order to take the belt, you have to BEAT the champ. How did ANY judge give Forest round 1?
#5 - Rashad Evans - Yea, I know. Shocking. Rashad is from Niagara Falls. So am I. Gatta support the hometown boy!
Honorable Mention:
Brock Lesnar - NEW, but the guy puts my ass on the edge of the couch. Kenny Florian - No one does more with less. Tito Ortiz - Sucks now, but still puts asses in seats. Gina Corano - Might actually kick my ass! But SEXY!
Over rated:
Keith Jardine - Horrific technique. Diego Sanchez - I wouldn't mind him if he never spoke. Melvin Gullard - Talented but obnoxious and takes the sport for grated.

| Favorite MMA fighters Posted: 10/19/2008 7:29:15 PM | My kind of thread!
Urijah Faber is definitely near the top of my list. GSP, Emilianko, Both Silvas (Anderson and Wanderlei), Genki Sudo, Miguel Torres, Frank Mir ( how can you not like a guy that had his leg broken so bad doctors thought he might not walk again, who comes back to beat Brock Lesnar, for God's sake LOL!), Randy Couture.......probably a few more that I can't think of right now.
Gina? She is certainly good, but Cyborg is on another level, IMHO. Can't wait for that one!
Kimbo for trying to turn his life around (too late, IMHO, but good for him). Tank Abbot just because!

| Favorite MMA fighters Posted: 10/19/2008 7:53:36 PM | I'm going a little old school for some people's tastes, but my favs are
Ken Shamrock Dan Severn Liddell Mark Coleman
and from the new guys, Lesnar for sure Hughes Frank Shamrock
As far as Gina goes, I think she's pretty, but I'm just not into violence towards women, even if it is by another woman. Its just me, but I don't like watching a pretty girl get punched in the face, I'm not against it or anything, I just don't like watching it.

I felt the same way at first, and still feel a little bad when I see one of them get banged up, but they are doing what they love and take their lumps with no complaints. So, that makes it a little easier for me to swallow.

| Favorite MMA fighters Posted: 10/20/2008 8:48:34 AM | | I don't have a problem with them doing what they love, I really think if thats what they want to do, anybody's opinion shouldn't make a difference, its just the guilt of watching a girl get mauled is too much for me. | |

Why not? The guy has super skills, and has an amazing knack for making his opponants look like total jokes.
His fighting style isn't for everyone. But........the guy is very talented.

| Favorite MMA fighters Posted: 11/29/2008 9:33:38 AM | Hmmm ...
Royce Gracie - If you were "there" for the first UFC's you just have to respect the man.
Kenny Florian - he put on, like, 30 lbs of DEAD weight to compete on the Ultimate Fighter and made it to the final. He's very well rounded, and just keeps getting better an better. And he seems to have a really good attitude and public image.
Randy Couture - becasue he not only continues to compete, but continues to be competative ... at 45 years old. And general consensus is that he is a great human being. Anyone who thinks he would throw a fight likely understands their own nature better than they do his. Couture has money, is probably the highest paid fighter in the sport, and isn't going to risk everything he's worked for for the sake of a few more pennies.
GSP - He's French-Canadian and probably the single most well rounded, athletic, and well conditioned fighter in the game. And he seems like a good person too.
Brock Lesnar - well, as a former WWE fan, it's always impressive to see a man that size move like he does ... and its nice to see those people who don't "get" the athletic element of pro wrestling react to his performance in MMA. Too bad he is going to lose his next match ... to either Mir or Nog ... by submission ... but I'll happily eat my words if he doesn't.

| Favorite MMA fighters Posted: 11/29/2008 10:32:56 PM | - Ken Shamrock (first UFCs he was a machine) - Dan Severn - The classic recent guys (chuck/randy/anderson silva/gsp/bj penn etc)
I really liked the early UFC fighters and have much respect for them for doing multiple fights in one night. Watch a UFC where they fight 3 times in a night... now thats a trained fighter who deserves respect.

|
| Favorite MMA fighters Posted: 1/3/2009 12:28:08 PM | SHINYA AOKI- best Japenise lightweight BADR HARI- great muay thai Loyoto Machida- great stricking (wish I was as good as he is) Fedor- greatest MMA fighter out there Takanori Gomi- pride lightweight champ Norifumi Yamamoto- great wreslting ability | |
|
| Favorite MMA fighters Posted: 1/4/2009 8:28:07 AM | Randy Couture - A class act, with all the titles he has won, probably top 3 best MMA fighter in history. I was one of the only few who thought he would beat Silva for the UFC title, I said never bet against him, well, except against Lesnar I did.
Gina Carano - Hopefully Dana White sees the potential to have a womans MMA fight now and then and signs her to a contract.
Brock Lesnar - He will be the most dominate heavyweight for the next couple of years at least
Chuck Liddell - Had the classics with Couture and Ortiz
Rampage Jackson - His character is sort of based off Junkyard Dog as he was a huge fan of wrestling back when he lived in Memphis, I think he is hilarious.
Forrest Griffin - Works very hard, had that classic fight in the UF finale, and like his attitude and his interviews.

I agree. He's not exactly a walking highlight reel, but he uses his style to do what matters most.....and that's win.

| Favorite MMA fighters Posted: 1/18/2009 4:51:06 PM | Randy Couture-a real class act and a true competitor
Forrest Griffin-he always shows up to fight
Rashad Evans-easily one of the most under-rated fighters ever,I have been a fan of his since his TUF days.I was jumping around like a little kid when he KO'ed Chuck.
Don Frye-how can you not like "The Predator"?His performance at The Ultimate Ultimate '96 was the stuff of legends.
Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira-I don't think I've ever seen him in a bad fight, and he's one of the nicest guys in the sport. Can't wait to see him fight Randy sometime this year.
Dan Henderson-I've always like Dan,he's a warrior. He'll show up and fight anyone-check out his fight in pride against Nogueira at Pride 24.He took the fight on 2 weeks notice, and Nog had 30+ pounds on him,yet he still took it to him and made it a great fight.
Wanderlei Silva-it's sad that most people only know Wandy from his last few fights. It wasn't all that long ago that he was considered one of the top two or three pound for pound fighters in the world.A really nice guy too.
I like just about every MMA fighter, there's very few I don't like.
