| Is the American economy making you a bit nervous? Posted: 10/27/2008 7:48:28 PM | | We Canadians have never been more in debt. The bank owns our house through a mortagae, our cars (second, third and forth). Our kids are in hock from going to post secondary school. Then of course there's the boat, the RV, and everything else we rent or have financed. In reality are you not just a bit nervous? | |

| Is the American economy making you a bit nervous? Posted: 10/27/2008 7:53:57 PM | Nope. Aside from a bit of credit card debt, which is minimal, the banks only 'own' my car. And there's no debt there since I never miss a payment.
If Canadians are in debt it's for the same reason the Americans are: their eyes are bigger than their wallets.

| Is the American economy making you a bit nervous? Posted: 10/27/2008 7:54:43 PM | Do you mean North American economy? Yes, I am a little nervous. Apparently more people than usual have gone for credit card debt counselling.
Personally, I am not in debt. My pink hair cost a fortune, but I am still okay. What worries me is that I notice my money goes no where as far as used too. In the good old days, I could have had my skin dyed pink, too.

| Is the American economy making you a bit nervous? Posted: 11/25/2008 11:55:51 AM | This tidbit arrived in my email today.
'I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around the banks will deprive the people of all property until their children wake up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered.'
Thomas Jefferson 1802
Rather prophetic and insightful I think.

Posted: 11/25/2008 6:54:39 PM | | I think what makes me nervous, is how the rich people on Wall St, can effect the markets by buying or selling alot of stocks on a daily basis. I do think the spin off can effect us here, we don't know how much, and it will be time for companies to re evaluate their expenses in the coming year.

| Is the American economy making you a bit nervous? Posted: 11/25/2008 7:00:11 PM | | Not sure about you guys but I am feeling it already in my workplace. Lots of my customers are holding back and taking a "wait and see" attitude, which doesn't bode well for the coming months. The tremors from the US are being felt all over | |

A house, four cars, a boat, an RV, and everything else? Yeah, I'd be nervous too.
all the above on sale now CHEAP ! <<<<<< thats not funny !!!!
Im not to worried, I dont think it will go that far....I think (hope to god im right) that the effects we are now experienceing in Canada is only a tremor coming from the states...Canada is still fine economically, If the banks still lend the money so we can make money instead of falling into the deep hole the states did and CMHC doesnt keep screwing with peoples investment mortgages here in Canada all will calm down and the people will start buying and thus creating revenue so we can continue on per usual instead of stupid fear and fear alone bringing our economy to a screaming downfall.

Sorry about the loss of your job mb. It's not just the American economy that's the issue, It seems that the world in general is in recession, Our PM has said it's just a matter of time before we too are in recession. So the Americans pulling out of it is totally in out best interest. Of course I'm nervous, anything that potentially takes food out my kids mouth makes me nervous, I'm as nervous as a turkey on thanksgiving.

| Is the American economy making you a bit nervous? Posted: 11/25/2008 10:19:30 PM | Yup.....
The US has a very substantial impact on the Canadian economy....... Having said that, it just blows my mind how stupid people really are..... Driving around in a 60 k SUV without a pot to piss in but it's easy with the enticing lower lease payments..... Seems to be the mindset.....lets get this regardless of whether or not I can afford it....paticularly without any ''what if'' forsight....... I'm not sure if printing money for anyone that seems to want it will help much.... Scarey days for this crazy planet..........

Posted: 11/26/2008 8:52:07 AM | ^^^ never mind that what blows me is that most of them do the worst off roading in the 1 inch puddle at the local wallmart parking lot oh well, its all about the feel... and vanity...that seems to be what kept the economy going and now all the promotion big business did is coming back at them...

| Is the American economy making you a bit nervous? Posted: 11/29/2008 5:06:37 PM | stock market climbing every day in the US ...so break out your credit cards and start spending
serously speaking I really dont see a substantial difference in the Interior, everyone is working, lots of hiring being done, new businesses opening up every day. The stores are packed with xmas shoppers. "I" dont know a single person who has been laid off in Canada, due to the "US Economy blues" . Personally other than a media scare I dont see the effects everyone seems to be talking about... Yes the banks are tightening up with loans and such but that is only to protect Candadians from making stupid decisions like the US made. Maybe I should start watching TV and the news or something, I just dont see the "horrid" effects people are talking about and my own personal business is as its always been...thankfully. The only thing I see is houseing is dropping its asking prices HUGE and gas is way cheaper but that works in my favor...
Am I missing something here ?

| Is the American economy making you a bit nervous? Posted: 11/29/2008 5:43:13 PM | Well, I'm not sure if this has everything to do with the American economic situation, but it appears that after meeting with my financial advisor, I have lost between 1/3 -closer to 1/2 , of my mutual funds. Now that in itself does not scare me too terribly much, as they are meant to be long term investments, but with the current climate, I was thinking of finally buying some real estate. That is now relegated back to the wish list.. | |

| Is the American economy making you a bit nervous? Posted: 12/11/2008 11:22:26 PM | This should make a few more people nervous. Expect another huge drop in the markets first thing tomorrow. The US Senate just killed the bailout deal for the big three automakers:

| Is the American economy making you a bit nervous? Posted: 9/3/2009 9:43:27 PM | Is the American economy making you a bit nervous? Nope, lucky enough (or smart enough) to live within my means and not gauge my lifestyle to an economy. When the recession hit, I could turn on a dime.... If you have the money, now is the time to take advantage of the down turn...
*Edit* Mark my words...Single women over the age of 40 will be the future driving force of tomorrow's economy... Cause we are smrt and we kick azz......
