| Wisdom..what indeed is Wisdom? Posted: 10/31/2008 10:56:19 PM | | Throughout my life I have strived for Wisdom. I believe it is the great comfort of Old Age and the reason that we live. What is Wisdom? I do not believe that Wisdom resides exclusively in any of the accepted disciplines...be they scientific, philosophical, etc. Please offer all and any definition. | |

| Wisdom..what indeed is Wisdom? Posted: 11/1/2008 5:08:39 AM | What is wisdom now, or what was wisdom traditionally considered to be, as now one is wise after the event whereas once it was wise before the event thus influencing the future. Now of course there are so many specialities in so many areas that ignorance tends to rule the roost, and there really is not enough time to gather all the references and decisions are made more on the hoof that over a period of time. The rich/ elites are considered wise as they are in a position to influence our behaviour through advertising, media outlets, allowing us to be conned or fooled almost all of the time as one great leader is supposed to have said. Wisdom is for the elected ones to practice for us, while we all work to pay the bills. The wise, those priests who worship in and for the temple of Mammon encourage their flocks to acquire wealth or possessions (stuff to many) beyond their real needs, encouraging social division through competition, the encouragement and encouragement of envy, thus giving satisfaction to the faithful, that their accumulation of possession denies others legitimate needs or access to those or other resources.
I must admit to love watching the result famines, refugees fleeing invading armies, other natural and man made disasters on TV while sitting in comfort watching all this human distress while eating and enjoying foods and drinks they probably do not even know exist. OH! the luxury of being a seeker of wisdom in economic terms of course.
Bye for now....Devils advocate!

| Wisdom..what indeed is Wisdom? Posted: 11/1/2008 6:39:35 AM | | I think that wisdom is the inner confidence and comfort we get from the thoughts and ideas we express to the world - along our ability to learn and accept all that is around us! Wisdom is being open to what is and what can be! | |

Wisdom isn't about learning new things, but understanding the things you know!
The word "educate" comes from learning what you already know in Latin. Wisdom is gnosis.

| Wisdom..what indeed is Wisdom? Posted: 11/2/2008 8:37:52 PM | | Wisdom is a shy smile and picking up the garbage you noted and picked up and disposed of in a quiet manner. Wisdom, like love,is active vs. verbiage filling our airspace as winter arrives and Co2 begins to strengthen due to our leaves falling. Indeed, sorely lacking. Finally, the Co2 question was posted by a nine-year old to his mother. Do our falling leaves mean more Co2 is in our atmosphere in this season of Fall? Earth's wisdom balances this equation, apparently. Who do you know would qualify as wise,,,,in your eyes? | |

| Wisdom..what indeed is Wisdom? Posted: 11/4/2008 9:24:00 PM | | Wisdom is defined in the dictionary as shrewd, learned, (educated?) knowlegeable. But not meaning to be petty, I have known all of the above and not felt that I was in the province of wisdom. In my own life, I have met very few wise people. You will never walk away a wise person depleted. Never. They have the amazing quality to see beyond their own noses and ease your contentions with living. | |

| Wisdom..what indeed is Wisdom? Posted: 11/4/2008 9:30:27 PM | Of all the things I could have in life, I asked for wisdom. The reason I wanted it so badly was that through wisdom all other things will come to you. Wisdom is both a gift and a tool.
With it you can help yourself and others. Without it you are a ship at sea with no sails or oars floating with every breeze of change. Not all change is good and without wisdom I wouldn't be able to see that.

| Wisdom..what indeed is Wisdom? Posted: 11/5/2008 3:21:25 AM | | There are various definitions of wisdom. I like that of Greek philosophy, a sense of wonder about things and a curiousity to know. Wisdom would also in my view be willing to know one's weakness and flaws and trying your best to remedy and overcome them. Another part to wisdom would be accepting your life and how it has unfolded despite misfortune and personal failure, and being able to affirm its intrinsic worth and value. Finally, wisdom is the ability to integrate the manifold and diversity of things into a coherent and clear vision of values or things; whoever has real vision, in any field, can be said in a way to be wise. | |

| Wisdom..what indeed is Wisdom? Posted: 11/5/2008 4:40:30 AM | | Wisdom is nothing more than recognizing the world as it truly is, rather than that self- deceiving imaginary world you want to think it is. | |

| Wisdom..what indeed is Wisdom? Posted: 11/5/2008 10:55:40 PM | I would start off by saying wisdom is experiences, but experience does not necessarilly make us wise.
I think wisdom is the process where we have come into our own individuality outside of the "known" system. Where one can do and say becuase they want to, not becuase they have to. Where one can admit that he can know alot, becuase he really does not know a whole lot. Read up on Aristotles works its very congruent with your quest for wisdom.

| Wisdom..what indeed is Wisdom? Posted: 11/6/2008 6:36:38 AM | | Wisdom is being able to think, speak, and act rationally and stay positive, constructive, and on the path of the success in the most stressful, confusing, and upsetting circumstances!!! | |
