When will we pull out of Iraq?Page 1 of 2    (1, 2)
Does the Bush administration have any plans for withdrawal of our troops? That is the question that is growing in the minds of Americans.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8256887/

With public support waning -- a new Gallup Poll shows that nearly six in 10 Americans say the United States should withdraw some or all of its troops from Iraq -- and lawmakers on both sides of the aisle calling for some kind of exit strategy to be verbalized by the Bush administration, Kayyem said the drumbeat for withdrawal will surely increase.

"We only have two military options left ... one Is increasing the troops, which is infeasible on a variety of levels. You can't do it, we don't have enough troops (and) politically it would be impossible for this White House to do it," Kayyem said.

"So then you (are left with) an exit strategy, which you're starting to hear from (Capitol) Hill, which is 'We need to get out, because our presence there is not necessarily making Iraq safer or more secure for the Iraqi people, and our presence there is sort of the focus for the Iraqi insurgency.'

The answer is no, of course. In fact, construction of at least six permanent US bases is currently underway, if not completed by now.

All administration officials admit that the US is there for the long haul - figures range from six to fifteen years depending on which official is giving the press conference. Course, with the army missing its recruiting goals every month, this will probably mean some sort of draft in the near future...

All attempts to bring about a withdrawal plan from Bush have been squashed by House Republicans. To even *think* about withdrawing the troops is being hailed by the talking heads in the media as Un-American.

It's a sad state of affairs, eh?

how can the US be the "insurgents"(lets call them what they are,,cowardly terrorists)when the latest suicude bombers are going after civilians...
and the US can only pull out once the country is stable,,,they cant leave anytime sooner or give a withdrawl date,,then the terrorists will jsut sit back till then and once the US is out,,BAM they are gonna be right in there.

What you may label as "insurgents" or "terrorists" think of themselves as freedom fighters waging war to liberate their country from a colonial foriegn power.

I remember back in 1776 when a similar group of people were waging war to liberate their country from a colonial foriegn power.

They are doing exactly what Americans would do, if China invaded to bring you the benefits of communism.

I really don't think Bush or the neocons plan to pull out at all.

I think we're about as likely to see Bush pull out of Iraq as we are to see one hundred snow white doves fly out of Jenna's pussy.

I truly think the aim is to take over more middle east oil, possibly by using Iraqi forces to fight a war with Iran.

The ones blowing up markets could be considered terrorists, but the ones blowing up american troops are only fighting an illegal occupying force and should be considered freedom fights.

Agreed, Iraq is now effectively the 51st state. Or perhaps, the 52nd.

Agreed pantiman, also one has to realize that our way of thinking and theirs is totally from different ends of the spectrum. These are a deeply religious people and when you drive thru downtown Baghdad with AC/DC Highway to hell blasting from American tanks and occasionally shoot woman and children, well that creates future problems for the American and coalition forces. One thing the Americans don't seem to be very well versed at is respecting other peoples ways of life or customs.Just my thoughts.

I get the feeling that Manitoba is the red-headed stepchild of Canada. No offense, to you Manitobians. I'd be willing to trade you Ohio for it, though.

The US will pull out of Iraq when the civil war starts, just like Lebannon in the 80's.

The invasion and occupation of Iraq is a violation of international law. Although the USA does not honor their treaty obligations they still agreeded to the terms of the Geneva Convention. Under the convention the right to resist occupation is gauranteed. So as much as the neo-cons will rail-the Iraqi resistance are freedom fighters.

In the 80's the USSR was at the hieght of it's power and was toppled by the same band of freedom fighters and the USA will also be defeated. Syria, Iran, China, Russia are all working with the Iraqi resistance and they will prevail, even if it takes over 10 years of bloody fighting.

It's just too bad that american proaganda and american intentions are moving in totally diffderent directions.

I disagree. Iraq is the world's problem. We certainly haven't been able to solve it so far and now it's very bad, if not worse than when we went in.
