| Anybody been canned yet? Posted: 11/28/2008 5:03:31 PM | I got my work to lay me off in April so I could go back to school, so I can't get fired from being unemployed, but come January I will be looking for work again. I am not at all concerned about finding employment though, as there is always work for those who want it bad enough. | |

on the upside we are having much free time It's actually kind of nice. Been doing the 12-15 hour days, 24/7 for about 10 years. Nice to be getting caught up on things. May just buy that place down south and call it a day.
Not really. I know I'll be bored by the end of January.

| Anybody been canned yet? Posted: 11/29/2008 5:04:39 AM | I know I've asked for my pink slip,,,but they won't give it to me!!! Seriously thou, we had to layoff about 10 a couple of weeks ago just because the work load was getting down. I know this lull in the economy is kinda scarey, but it's kinda nice to have somewhat of a break in the schedule that I have been trying to keep up in the last 5-6 years. Even better now is the time to "cut the fat", get rid of the "dead weight", etc, etc. Or as I call it to some out there, a lesson in REALITY.
Too many out there in the workforce have been walking around like they were "untouchable" because of how busy everybody has been and the silly amount of work everyone had. Those are the first that get sent to the unemployment line. Too many out there never used the opportunity of the last 5 years to learn, make themselves better at their jobs, or I say to them, make themselves UNfireable. They now will have figure out what they are going to do as things slow down a bit and reality comes back into the big picture.

None of the country's migrant workforce wanted to move either. You don't have to invest the money you make where you make it. You can invest it elsewhere. At least you don't have to move all the way down to Toronto. I don't blame anyone for not wanting to move to another part of the country and stay there to work. Sure it sux. But then someone else might say, "at least the opportunity IS there. (and not the other side of the country). For now.
Yes there IS that much work. It's just that it might not be right in our backyards, that's all. I have one job and am waiting to go to the other one for the winter to work. (Crazy for four seasons and loves working out in the miserable weather).

| Anybody been canned yet? Posted: 12/4/2008 8:30:05 AM | | I know a quite a few people who've been laid off, but the thing that makes it starkly obvious in my mind, is when I'm picking up my daughter from elementary school. It used to be that about 90% of the parents picking up were mothers ... now, I'd guesstimate close to 75% are fathers. | |
