| | New Feature: Men/Women Who Think You are Super HotPage 1 of 7 (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7) | Has anyone else seen this? I just logged into email and up by the "See Who Has Viewed you" is another link to see who the system thinks could be attracted to you but has never contacted you.
I went and checked it out, and what I find funny is, two of the guys that it says have never contacted me, have emailed with me, and have attended one or more events that I have hosted.
Has anyone checked theirs out yet?

The "Men/Women Who Think You Are Hot" have not voted for you and may not have even viewed your profile before, but when they do searches on the site, they tend to look for people with your characteristics. Think of them as helpful suggestions - they search for people just like you!

K... of the list of men that apparently find me HOT!!! One is a fantastic friend and not once has he ever mentioned anything other than he respects my mind... I'm pretty sure I'd have heard about anything more...
I also have one former mod ( a cute one!) and a bunch of guys from all over North America...

It's funny because I looked at a few of their profiles to see what this was based upon and found that most of them had the same level of education and that's about it. Many of the interests didn't match and my pic isn't available to be rated so I'm a bit baffled by this one. Even if this site provided a serious list of men who think I'm really hot, I'm not sure how useful it would be unless it was mutual. I know of at least one other site that does provide mutual ratings and you're alerted if both users think the other one is above average. I would like the rating feature here redone into something similar. It would be more useful. | |

How do we Forumites differ from those that are looking and not posting?
Does this new feature plaster users with interests based on their profile page?
How would that make us 'forum users' disadvantaged with this kewl new feature?

Think about it - if a guy sends an email to a woman that says he's writing to her because he saw a message that she thinks he's hot, what would the reaction likely be? "WTF!? I've never even seen you before, you weirdo!"
If a woman sends a message saying the same thing, she might get that reaction from a few guys, but since so many men complain that women never write them, it's not as likely. | |

obviously some of the factors used in coming up with the list will be adversely affected due to forum usage and interaction between posters ... consequently I wouldn't worry about it if you're forums users.

Anyway, this feature looks similar to the "your matches" email thing they send once a week. I scanned mine. Let's just say they need to go back to the drawing board with this one.

Posted: 12/4/2008 9:29:04 PM | Oh boy. This is one of those times I wish a preemptive block feature was available. I just checked out mine and I know 3 of them. I've already dated two of them, met one irl and one on yahoo personals when I was in my early 20s. Don't wish to hear from either of them. The third contacted me in 2001 and it was clear VERY fast we were not a match so I told him so. Then after that he would contact me on every single website he saw me on (dating, myspace, yahoo, et al) saying the stupidest sh*t imaginable (Hey, we're both still single, let's try again!) Try what exactly when we never moved past two phone conversations?? Also I was engaged two of the times he contacted me. I just know he's going to contact me here, I just know it. Unread/Deleted! 
The rest couldn't possibly be less my type. Interesting new features lately. I wonder what's next. | |

From what I have be able to gather, the coding takes random words and phrases on your profile and matches them with others. For example, if you have the phrase "I am looking for" then this seems to be matching up that same phrase on other profiles. This doesn't seem to have any 'rhyme or reason' to what YOU are looking for with regard to the other person's age, location, or anything else. I think this randomness goes against what made this site unique, and that is the ability to eliminate from a search the people you are NOT looking for. The way this feature currently exists, I don't think many of us will have much realistic use for it.
I have an extra penny here, anyone want it? | |
