Of course we have to comply with it, but what do you think of it and did you even know about it?

BARE ARIZONA ON YOUR PLATEThe new Arizona License Plate law could cost a lot of Arizonans a lot of money; $151 and $160 if you are stopped in Tucson.

What’s the BEEF?

Total Visibility of ARIZONA
Arizona Covered
You know those frames that go around your license plate to keep it from just looking like a rough rectangle of metal. The frame that often has advertising for the auto dealer or your favorite cause or association.

Well, as of January 1, 2009 it becomes a primary offense to have the word ARIZONA covered or even partially covered.

A primary offense means you can (and will) be stopped for it.

Wow, I hadn't heard anything about this. Can you show what your source was for that info? I've read nothing in the news!

i dont understand the reason for this law -arent the cameras fleecing enough off of everyone already?
its really an ugly plate anyway (blue, beige, purple) -i can understand people trying to cover it.
-just another brainfart scheme off of jefferson st. to skim more money from the working class...

hummm, got to make up for the revenue defficit somehow...... The taxes aren't coming in due to so many houses in forcloosure and if they jack the housing taxes anymore those that can pay are gonna be in forclosure too........
So there has got to be some way to make up for their losses.

Is it against the law to re-drill holes in your plate? I like my plate cover too, but if I drill holes in the plate and lower it you'll be able to read ARIZONA, when your tailgating me!!!

It's just a lame excuse for police to not have to use "probable cause" as an excuse for pulling you over. They do it in many other States, make it illegal to have the name of the State or the registration stickers covered. It's also illegal to have your registration sticker in any place other than the designated place on the license plate... but I see people with their registration stickers ALL OVER their plates, right next to their old ones... just covering their plates.

All in all, don't screw around when you're on the road and don't get the police interested in you, and they won't be pulling you over for this. If you do find yourself being pulled over for "something" the officer will probably be using this as his/her excuse from now on. They have a whole list of BS excuses they can pull you over for, like your license plate illuminating lights being too "dim", and this just gets added to the list.

I get pulled over a lot for my window tint in the from being too dark, with the frequent apology and the "get out jail free card" of the warning that doesn't require any action. I have had it checked and found I was in compliance. Friends in Law Enforcement flat out tell me that my racing rims are over priced for my car, plus dark tint makes me look suspicious. Okaaaaaay.

I like my froggy plate cover. It has to go now. waaaah I found the most awesome plate cover for now ex and bought him two, he LOVES it. He has the badge.... I bet he'll keep his.

wow, some just don't get it. I have a collection of tickets larger than most of you combined and I have no problem with the new law. I hope it includes those total covers that make the entire plate unreadable.

From a safety stand point think of it this way....a car hits a child on a bicycle. The Police ask the witnesses what kind of car ? The first person says a black one...the next a toyota, the next thinks it was a ford. The one thing they can all agree on is none of them could read the plate to positivly ID the vehicle. So the guilty party that hurt or possibly killed the child goes free, damn folks sure hope it wasn't your child but it was someones.

AZ has a larger collection of plate styles than anywhere I have ever been, most are ugly and far from easliy readable with the colors they use.

My one offset to the topic agrees they did a lousy assed job of letting people know the law was taking effect.

I also agree the camera enforcement is a bite in the ass, but bottom line is if you don't break the law them cameras do nothing to you.

Uh oh. And here I am looking to relocate to AZ. Here, since I have lived in the same place for over 10 years now, and have always had the same car, by now they leave me alone. But, just driving the car I do can get me pulled over on BS stops. Now you are going to tell me that I get to deal with over zealous types looking to increase revenues? Gonna get me a low profile beater I suppose. Be my under cover car hehehe

But does anyone know how AZ handles collector plates from out of state?

All vehicles must be registered and have Az plates if you are a resident. Az does have a historical vehicle plate that is copper and red I think. You could probably get a look at it through the Arizona Department of Transportation web site. Should be able to get you the extra costs involved in specialty plates!
Welcome to Az.......... Anyway

I went, I looked, at that plate is fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuugly! RATS! Was also surprised, and a bit confused, when I saw that the classic car club only allows about 20 years' worth of vehicles. Seems kinda dumb to me. I can understand a car having to be a certain age to be a classic, but that they would even refuse some prior to the first year they chose, really don't agree with that. Whatever. (I think they need to make a little icon that yawns, shrugs, and just walks away.)

Since the cops can pull us over for just that thing, I went ahead and took mine off. Just running a bare plate now.

I happen to work with about four wives of local cops. Interesting that they all have license plate frames that cover up the word Arizona on their plates....guess it don't apply to cop's personal cars.

That got me to wondering how many police cars have it covered....

Ya gotta love the law grinders...every year they gotta add more and more silly laws to justify their jobs. Wonder what the license plate frame industry is doing to cope?

One more reason NOT to move to Arizona. Add it to the HEAT, SMOG, traffic jams, having to be polite to children in loose fitting clothes because they DO have automatic weapons under there, and flash floods, and all them little things that slither and crawl and bite and want their desert back.

seems completely reasonable that the states name should not be covered,I always thought that was a no brainer anyways,I just shopped around years ago to find an appropriate one before this was even a thought. They did the same same in another state I lived in when it covered the tags, the tags tell a cop if your expired at a great distance away just by its color.
