| Fitness challenge.... Posted: 12/16/2008 6:54:52 PM | I was hoping to get some support and inspiration from as many people as possible on this challenge. I did this last year with a couple of co-workers in January and Feb last year and loved it. Then got busy and slowy got started again in August.
The package I signed up for last year gave 2 month full membership to a health club, which I normally I don't care for them and as much advice and guidance as I wanted. I did not go in it for weight loss but for the challenge of regaining my strength back after a 10 week illness knocked me off my feet that previous summer. It was amazing, I ended up working out 2 hours, 3 times a week. It was not on my way home, but added a few miles to the trip but I figured if I worked out 2 hours each time, it would be worth it.
The fact that my 2 coworkers joined gave me a bit of the challenge I needed. They ended up giving up after 2 weeks. I missed 1 week due to a nasty cold. I learned to push myself and found a few new things I enjoyed doing to stay fit.
If anyone is interested let me know... This is open to the men too! That would be a great challenge for us girls! jumping jacks!!!!

| Fitness challenge.... Posted: 12/17/2008 6:16:14 AM | I think this is a great idea. I have been into fitness and healthy eating for over 25 years. Stop drinking soda!!! It is terrible for your digestive system and the carbonation sucks the calcium from your bones. MEN can get osteoporosis!!! Diet soda is just as bad for you, I think even worse. I drink over a gallon of water a day. Your body is a big chemistry set. Stress, the enviroment and what you put in it ALL have impact on how your body breaks down and uses vitamins and minerals. Health is the most precious gift you can give to yourself, your S.I. and your family. Major changes are hard, BUT you get so much in return!! | |
|
| Fitness challenge.... Posted: 12/17/2008 8:11:55 AM | I sent you a bit of info that I have done that is working for me. I don't really care about weight, more about the distribution of it. I have taught myself to work out with out making myself hurt the next day, yet I see the changes within a few days. I feel the muscles, this sensation throughout the day helps me remember that I am working on improvement and gets me to do my stretching more often. So I remember to continue the natural sculpturing even though I am not working out. Stretching can make a big difference on the results of your workout.
I know I am not built typically, but I have tried the same things as others to help keep fit and it was a loosing battle. As anyone built typically?
My son is going to join me in January, to gain some bulk and stay healthy.

| Fitness challenge.... Posted: 12/17/2008 8:31:39 AM | Shelia, count me in on this. I am the same way, I enjoy working out, but sometimes need that extra motivation to help push myself farther. This year hasn't been the best year for me after having 3 surgeries and then my father being sick, but it just goes to show that we need to take care of ourselves the best that we can, and that exercise and eating right is a great start to that.
When is the challenge going to start?

| Fitness challenge.... Posted: 12/17/2008 9:01:26 AM | | Are you taking any supplements? I take 3,000 mgs of organic flax seed oil a day (Omega-3), a good multi-vitamin, and lots of B-12. I eat just about anything I want, PORTION control. Two bites of pie or cheescake instead of two slices. I don't eat all organic, BUT I do cook alot and eat as little as I can of processed food. I have found when I hang w/peeps that eat healthy, I don't feel I am missing out on anything. If anyone is interested, I have a method of frying food (chicken, fish, etc.) I would be happy to share. It seals out the grease. Drop me an e-mail. | |
|
| Fitness challenge.... Posted: 12/17/2008 9:37:26 AM | I only take a multi-vitamin designed for fitness when I remember. I am a caffiene lover and it has it in there too. However, I do not like the energy drinks. The omega suplements break me out but I have no problem with finding foods that have them in it. I also get drier skin from Vit c supplements, but not from eating foods with Vit C. My way of knowing I am not suppose to rely on too much science... Use my brain instead. No, I am not a 1st thing in the morning breakfast eater. I do keep old fashioned oats at work just for emergencies... never know how long I get stuck here at the hospital....
As I go, I will post things that I have tried and worked.... Things that I have read....
The discovery fitness challenge begins the 1st week of January. I will hunt down more info today...

| Fitness challenge.... Posted: 12/17/2008 9:47:33 AM | I am anti-energy drinks. I eat HUGE amounts of citrus, love it! And I love coffee. I have oatmeal everyday (Yeeuck), but I know it is really good for you. This book has a great breakdown to being more healthy with a holistic approach: Andrew Weil's 10 Weeks to Optimum Health. He is kinda radical about somethings, but really stresses how your "spirit" is so important to your physical well-being. Good luck to everyone! I hope to read what is working and what positive actions you are incorporating into your everyday lifestyle. | |

| Fitness challenge.... Posted: 12/17/2008 9:58:55 AM | Body for Life is good.... A bit more than I can handle, but a little more info and inspiration can help. I am not good with self help books, if I read, I want to read the happy ending too....
There are also books on what is good for you by your blood type! I read through the one my brother uses... Mr. Eight percent body fat!... and via nature the things that are not recommended for my blood type are things I don't like! Not everything though. If just 25% is accurate, then that is a bit more help for your health.
Fitness isn't always about how your body is shaped in my view, it is about your overall health... Heart, mind, body and soul...
|
| Fitness challenge.... Posted: 12/17/2008 10:19:53 AM | | That was" Dr. Andrew Weil's 8 Weeks to Optimum Health". I agree with you TOTALLY, Sheila. Everyone is different! You have to find what works for you. And I think the holistic approach is a great tool. | |
|
| Fitness challenge.... Posted: 12/17/2008 10:35:14 AM | My spirit isn't what it usually is this time of year! So I am trying to ramp other aspects around and gradually that will improve. Hugging my favorite little boy, Hayden, does bring tears to my eyes. That inocent unconditional love he has for his gwamaw is irreplacable. He loves going to the "play ground" at the health club! We now have a routine of drinking a lot of water when we get there, he goes to play, I work out. Then when I am done, we split a smoothie! He sits at the bar and tells them what color to make it. | |

| Fitness challenge.... Posted: 12/17/2008 12:35:44 PM | | Are you talking about the Discovery Health National Body Challenge? They have not updated their website for the 2009 challenge yet. | |
|
| Fitness challenge.... Posted: 12/17/2008 2:48:19 PM | Yes, but you can go to the registry and they will send you a reminder for the start of registering. But I would also like some of us to work together and encourage one another. Maybe even find out who can go to the same health club. I couldn't believe how nice the Bally's in Fairview was last year. I was impressed!
Anyone in Illinois want to join in with me for the month of January? I wanna give the spinning a try again... shocked the heck out of me last year! And I can ride all day long, 10 min of spinning I was about dead! That is my challenge this year...make it to 15 min! or more!
| |
|
| Fitness challenge.... Posted: 12/17/2008 4:21:03 PM | One of my clients has a spinning thing, name escapes me at the moment (duh) but if anyone is interested i can check with them and see if they're interested in doing a promotion or discount....?

And no i aint dead yet! | |

| Fitness challenge.... Posted: 12/17/2008 9:05:45 PM | | What area is this spinning thingy? If we could get a group together once a week it would be great competition. Spinning is about the most challenging thing I have ever tried. I only get through about 10-15 min of a class. They generally go for 45-60 minutes. Incredible workout! | |
|
| Fitness challenge.... Posted: 12/17/2008 9:11:47 PM | I think it's the brentwood area, would have to check, just off of 40. If you can give me an ideal of how many would be interested in doing it, i'll pass it on and see if we can get something worked out | |
|
| Fitness challenge.... Posted: 12/17/2008 9:36:29 PM | So far haven't gotten too much response... Just what you see here. That wouldn't be to bad if we could do like a 6 ish thing... have a light dinner together then hit the spinning! Would you be up for the challenge?
Besides pushing and encouraging each other we could laugh at ourselves too!

|
| Fitness challenge.... Posted: 12/17/2008 9:50:21 PM | Oh no not me, no bike can withstand my fat arse!!! Besides, w/all i have going on right now, i got no time to be spinning in place and going no where! | |
|
| Fitness challenge.... Posted: 12/17/2008 10:08:44 PM | Oh you would not believe the places you could go with this challenge! I don't recall you having any problems with you physique that would inhibit you keeping up with us!
It isn't like a regular exercise bike either...
|
| Fitness challenge.... Posted: 12/18/2008 4:30:20 AM | | whatever happened to just taking a regular bicycle out for a ride ????? or a daily walk around your local park ??? | |
|
| Fitness challenge.... Posted: 12/18/2008 7:26:35 AM | Ummm sittin on a stationary bike stare'n at the butt of the person in front of me... hmmm yeah, my mind would be going every place but where i was!
And i have an exercise bike here, just cant get to it w/all the crapola in this place!
And sctrrdr69, not sure about anyone else but it's TO DAMN COLD for me! :P
|
| Fitness challenge.... Posted: 12/18/2008 11:50:17 AM | I have to agree with Bay, as much as I enjoy riding my bicycle, something about 7 degrees with a wind chill of -11 degrees and ice on the roads makes me want to rethink riding my bicycle right now. Maybe when it warms up to 10 degrees I will think about it. | |
|
| Fitness challenge.... Posted: 12/18/2008 12:19:46 PM | | You can get a really good stair-stepper at Target for $50.00, made by SPORTLINE. It is small and you can adjust the tension, and it shows calories burned. I think it works your abs more than cycling. AND, if you fall off, as opposed to riding a bike, you can fall onto a nice cushy carpet instead of asphalt and you won't get run over by Bay in his pick-up when he is out scouting for chicks to pick-up. | |
|
| Fitness challenge.... Posted: 12/18/2008 11:10:26 PM | Hey now, i do NOT scout out chickies tyvm!!! I can't help it they like to jump back in the bed of the truck! Now if i could just get em into my other one! | |

| Fitness challenge.... Posted: 12/19/2008 12:00:07 AM | Since August, I have really changed my diet due to health. I read and researched alot of different books and websites... I liked Body for Life's Diet but I felt that they were really just trying to sell the supplemental program, read "Good Cholesterol, Bad Cholesterol", and really life Lance Armstrong's website, Livestrong.com. They have a challenge page and health pages, diet pages, and daily recipes emailed right to you... | |
