I ve been hearing bout Cake mix cookies.

I seen recipes, but no reviews on what they are like...taste and texture.

I was thinking of lemon with dried cherries

Chocolate with walnuts and dried cherries

ginger bread with raisins.

Have never made cookies from a cake mix so I did a quick search. The link below gives you numerous reviews - from what I can see, the cookies are moist and don't spread like a regular cookie.

SAGuy,, I make them all the time,, they're great!
I don't usually do regular cookies tho. I pat the dough out in a sheet pan to make bar cookies. When they are done, I cut them while still warm, they slice easier.
Any flavor mix works well and you can add anything you like to them. If I'm adding nuts, chocolate chips or M&Ms I put them on top after spreading the dough and press them in with my hands. Icings and glazes also work well on them after baking.
My favorite are lemon bars, just a lemon cake mix with a little lemon zest mixed in and topped with lemon glaze or just sprinkled with powdered sugar.

If you want to make actual cookies, add half cup ground almond (or any other nut) meal to the cake mix so it becomes bit thicker.

I made cookies with strawberry cake mix and sprinkles.
They bake quickly, come out a fluffier than usual cookies. If you want them to harden up a little, just keep them in the warm oven after baking thus allowing them to dry.

Nothing spectacular, but if you want cookies, cake mix will work.

SA,
I don't have a lot of experience with them, except for one style and it is awesome.
You can use any flavor and your variations would work fine, as well.
I will give you the original recipe, which is well worth trying, then feel free to do the exact same thing with different flavors of cake mix. I have tried it with several flavors and all worked excellently.

Gooey Butter Bars
1 box Yellow Butter Cake Mix
1 stick of real butter
2 large eggs
1 - 8 oz. cream cheese
1 cup powdered sugar
1 tsp vanilla (can change the flavoring with different flavors cake mix too)

In a 13 X 9 pan melt the butter, pour in the dry cake mix and add the 2 eggs, beaten. Mix well. Mix the cream cheese, vanilla and sugar until well mixed and creamy. Drop the cream cheese mixture by spoonfulls onto the cake mix mixture and swirl to cover the top as well as possible. Don't worry about being perfect here. Bake at 375 until golden. Cool completely and cut into 1" X 2" bars. You can dust these with powdered sugar, but not necessary.
Ohhhhhhh so yummy.

Here is one from the Steven and Chris show - he made it in less than 5 min!!!
Dorin's Fudgy Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars
Ingredients:
2 rolls, store-bought chocolate chip cookie dough
1 can, sweetened condensed milk
1C semi-sweet chocolate chips

Method:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Grease a 9 x 13 pyrex baking dish. Warm the condensed milk in a sauce pan, add the chocolate chips, stir until all is melted and combined.
Break up one roll of cookie dough into big chunks, gently press into bottom of the dish to cover evenly. Pour the chocolate/milk mixture on top of cookie dough base. Break up the second roll of cookie dough all over the top of the chocolate, cover evenly in biggish chunks.
Bake until the cookie dough turns slightly brown (15 - 20 minutes) and the bottom is fully cooked. Let cool completely. Cut into bars. Freeze or serve.

I made the Gooey Bars recipe and have been asked to make another pan for New Year's! They were absolutely fabulous and so darn simple it was almost scary! LOL! Thanks for a great idea. I will add that the cake mix I used was one of the new low sugar ones that had Splenda in it and no one knew the difference! Also used the Smart Balance stick butter and again excellent!

I just made another round of the gooey bars and used a fudge brownie mix. When almost done sprinkled on chocolate chips, slivered almonds and drizzle of caramel syrup. Just had a "Taste" and they are TO DIE FOR!!!! LOL! This recipe is such a versatile one and a true keeper!

Adding rice krispies!!!! This sounds wonderful. I bake; have a small "adult" cupcake business, but love making these cake mix cookies too. I like this version! Have also done lemon mix with coconut and a bit of dried cranberries! Happy New Year, Rusty

Hey Fritzle!
I am so glad you are enjoying them. I think that is an awesome and so simple recipe. I have always loved it and don't utilize it enough. I can't believe how amazing they are. You are really dressing them up! Cool

I think I will make some for this Sunday at church. I have never tried a coconut one, maybe I will try that and see what happens.

"adult" cupcake ...is that Naughty cupcakes or CCs for grown folk?

I want to admit...I did not try them, I instead used some "Jiffy" brownie mix I had...Yuck what a mess.

OK - "adult cupcakes" -- mine are basically adult flavors. They look normal; well, except one variety. The names are suggestive, but kids can eat (some of) them - you just have to call them something else. For instance, "The Big O" is dark chocolate with hazelnut filling and espresso buttercream frosting; "G-Spot" is a basic "black-bottom" cupcake (dark chocolate with cream cheese center and a hidden cherry" ... There's different varieties. Ah, you guys, just bake-on ...

Rustygetsit ~ you have to contact me with a list. That is too cool. Trust me I am too busy to bake, but it would be fun for a batchlorette party, or a lingere party, etc.... hee hee.
-----------------
Fritzil ~ The sugar free ooey gooey is a must try. I might be allowed to eat the whole pan. NOT! Sugar free, fat free is not calorie free. But, it does allow for a little more indulgence without the guilt. Thanks.

Recently Pillsburry came out with a line of 50% less sugar cake mixes, brownie mixes and canned frosting! I am thrilled! They are excellent and no one can tell the difference in taste or texture at all. Anything to save the sugar grams is a winner with me. Even though I am a totally controlled diabetic, no meds at all, I watch my sugars pretty closely. But sometimes everyone needs a treat and I love that there are products out there to help with it that aren't so darn expensive!
