She didn't speak any english and he didn't speak what ever she spoke but they got married in the movie. For a long timme after that I was thinking how great it would be to meet somebody from a different country that didn't expect so much out of a man but maybe didn't speak english. I guess that did kind of screw up my ideals for marraige because it probably hardly ever happens in real life. Sometimes I still think that a mail order bride could be a good optoin for me because it is really hard to meet ladies for me. | |

Now, my sons and I only watch guy movies. If the windows don't rattle, nothing esssssplodes, and things don't fall off the shelves, it's either a shitty movie or it ain't turned up enough...

I think moreso though, that it ain't so much that the media is brainwashing us or trying to perpetualize an ideal - it's more than society at large has become so damned stupid that they can't understand that THIS IS HOLLYWOOD - THIS IS NOT TO BE CONSIDERED "REAL". People by and large have a HUGE disconnect between what they see on screen and what is really out there. They try for this ideal that they saw in some movie, not stopping long enough to think that this was a SCRIPTED FANTASY. Of course the guy gets the gal at the end and all ends well...it's friggin' supposed to! Who'd pay to see a movie where the guy loses the girl at the end after all his work? Or her work, let's be fair.
Think about it. Not all good guys wear white hats. Not all bad guys lose/die. The coyote never caught the road runner not because he was stupid, it's because if he caught the roadrunner the cartoon would've ended after one half episode. You can't be punched like they are in Hollywood and have just a small "bruise" for your efforts. Bad guys DO win on occasion. No one has sex and wakes up next morning with perfect hair/teeth/makeup (or they clearly did it wrong!). People for the most part don't tend to break into Broadway Musical numbers for no apparent reason.
Society is just stuck on stupid. Don't just blame the media. Blame people by and large for not having the capacity to distinguish fact from fantasy.
There's your culprit. Emulation.
