| picture or no picture is the question Posted: 1/3/2009 3:26:00 PM | | Why is it that men who want to date women on here always specify that we must have a picture to contact them but yet they have no picture up for everyone to see? Anyone else find the irony in that? I mean if we are putting ourselves out there shouldn't they be as well? If anyone has any comments please feel free to share them! | |
|
| picture or no picture is the question Posted: 1/3/2009 3:49:08 PM | I get mail from people with no posted photo on their profile, but have found if they stipulate "must have photo" they add one in the email they send...I guess lots of people don't want the folks at work that are on here also seeing them and giving them a hard time.

| picture or no picture is the question Posted: 1/4/2009 12:44:41 AM | Maybe because they are in "small town" Alberta, they don't want their buddies to know they are seeking someone on line.
But as stated 2 up, it is usually that they want to remain anonymous except when contacting someone. There are probably 25 % of all users on this site (male and female) that do not post a picture, but will provide one if asked and they are interested !!
|
| picture or no picture is the question Posted: 1/4/2009 8:56:28 AM | The age old question....
You know people are so concerned that someone might see their photo online. That means that those people are surfing POF as well. LOL!
When I meet people IRL that comment about POF to me, I always answer "So have YOU met anyone interesting on POF?"... LOL!
|
| picture or no picture is the question Posted: 1/4/2009 9:04:44 AM | Being on a dating site without a picture is like going to a bar with a paper bag on your head.
As for the whole "small town Alberta" concept, I have news for those people .... everyone in town already knows you are on the site
|
| picture or no picture is the question Posted: 1/4/2009 9:09:05 AM | Great post Golfing! I totally agree! Man, I am in an agreeable mood today, I should go back to bed!!
I really don't like to chat much with people who don't have photos.
|
| picture or no picture is the question Posted: 1/4/2009 9:29:56 AM | What's the big deal? Sometimes I post a picture, sometimes I don't. Who cares? If it is that bothersome to some people, then send a message to the big fish and request everyone on here must have a picture posted. | |
|
| picture or no picture is the question Posted: 1/4/2009 9:35:58 AM | | I guess the big deal is...this is a dating site, and most people, shallow as it may be....kind of like to actually see the people they are chatting with before they meet for a date. | |
|
| picture or no picture is the question Posted: 1/4/2009 9:39:31 AM | | I joined a paid dating site and posted my pic. My very first match's first message to me was "See! I told you we should have dated!". He didn't have a pic up, but it was one of my regulars at the nightclub where I work. It was weird and uncomfortable. My pics will stay unposted on this site, thanks. | |

| picture or no picture is the question Posted: 1/4/2009 9:51:06 AM | | I am undecided on the picture thing, i am told my picture is terrible but being puter challenged it is as good as it gets, so here i am altho i have to admit i used to get emails and added to favs before i put it up and since welll hmmmm sigh, lol | |

| picture or no picture is the question Posted: 1/4/2009 11:12:48 AM | The web is way more then it appears. People really need to think about what they post. A picture is worth a thousand words, literaly.
Just as google can index words, you can index pictures. Imagine, search by location or face.
I'm small time, what are the big boys doing?
In the past I was accused of having something to hide because I had no picture. I'm just being careful. Making an informed choice.
Some people I've talked to about this in the past have had a change of heart. Where did your photos go?
Be careful what you post.
|
| picture or no picture is the question Posted: 1/4/2009 11:26:48 AM | agreed
I never post anything that I would be uncomfortable with my kids or my parents finding
I prefer talking to people that are willing to share their pictures and I do find it odd that some will stipulate "must have picture" and yet not have one up - very contradictory

I guess the big deal is...this is a dating site, and most people, shallow as it may be....kind of like to actually see the people they are chatting with before they meet for a date. Of course I'd exchange pictures before I'd ever go on a date with some one. But you know what they say... life is like a box of chocolates, what looks all fancy and tasty outside might be a bitter walnut inside.

| picture or no picture is the question Posted: 1/4/2009 11:33:14 AM | Wow...feel the paranoi in this thread!!
Because of this thread I have decided I will never return a message to anyone without a photo and I am going to delete all non photo people off my favourites.
I want to meet someone open and honest, who has nothing to hide, and doesn't care what people think.
I want to meet someone who has enough computer skills to post a photo.
I want to meet someone is comfortable with how they look and who they are and is PROUD to say 'this is me, have me or don't!
And, that is my Sunday Rant for the day!!!
First Edit *Now I have lost 1/2 of my favourites. Guess what? Out of all of those non photo people only one contacted me.*
**I think now the question is...how serious are non photo people about really meeting someone??**
Second Edit ..paper above...agreed - however I like to find a chocolate that makes me want to lick off the outer coating to find out whats inside. LOL!

| picture or no picture is the question Posted: 1/4/2009 12:03:30 PM | Just curious Equip Girl, Say we met at one of the get togethers? I seemed nice, hell we even kinda hit it off. If I added you as a favorite would you delete me too for not having a photo. (Not due to having a lack of computer skills.)
Not everone who has a photo is open and honest, with nothing to hide. People take different approaches. I use to go to the get togethers, that was my approach to this dating site. You wanted to see me, come out for the night with the group.
Ratherbegolfing, "Being on a dating site without a picture is like going to a bar with a paper bag on your head." I love this one. :) However it makes me wonder. Imagine if........everyone went to a bar with a bag on their head. Imagine the new friends you would make? I think we should set up a Bag Night. It'd be a hoot!
Cheers, P | |

| picture or no picture is the question Posted: 1/4/2009 12:11:09 PM | I would not know who you ever were if I met you IRL unless you told me.
Thus you can control how secretive you want to be.
Funny you should ask about the favourite thing. One of the non photo people I did hesitate before I deleted him., because I have chatted with him on MSN and he does seem nice. However, he refuses to ever meet up, post a photo or anything. I am very much guessing he is not single and using POF when he is lonely.
I DESERVE BETTER.
2009 is going to be a year for me to stop doing things the same old way I have as far as dating, as I have to come to the realization those ways do not work for me. If I continue on the same path I have been, I will be posting on here when I am 90.
There are more then enough wonderful, single, positive people on this site WITH PHOTOS, so why waste my time with someone that doesn't?

| picture or no picture is the question Posted: 1/4/2009 12:11:20 PM | Your reasoning makes no sense at all philters...because if someone met you in person first, they'd know what you look like...would they not? Therefore, they wouldn't need to see a photo after meeting you face to face?
None of us are perfect...but let's face it...no one is here to search out the lagoon creature to meet for drinks. No, a photo cannot tell you what someone is like inside...but at least it's a start.
|
| picture or no picture is the question Posted: 1/4/2009 12:14:18 PM | The Lagoon Creature? Is he from Yorkton?
I TOTALLY AGREE Jan! OMG! I am yelling so much today I am giving myself a headache. LOL!
It is a start. Having a photo is a start to an open, honest, fair friendship!!
C'mon Philter show us your face!

Comments like "I like to find a chocolate that makes me want to lick off the outer coating to find out whats inside" is going to get up added to a lot of peoples Favourites list. Picture or no picture.

| picture or no picture is the question Posted: 1/4/2009 12:17:18 PM | I think it might be the change in weather eh?
As for me I think it is the gingerale they put in my whiskey last night. LOL!
Maybe I should take a photo of myself now, no make up and in my jammies and post that. NOW that would be honest wouldn't it?
CHICO....I just knew you would be the first to respond to that post.
That will be $1.50 please.
|
| picture or no picture is the question Posted: 1/4/2009 12:21:41 PM | yeppers...chinook coming our way....I need to hire myself out to the weather stations.
LOL..put a photo up of me with my hair sticking up in the hair, bags under my eyes from no sleep and having the flu all week and no make up?? Yeah, THAT will attract a lot of desirables !!!!!!!!
|
| picture or no picture is the question Posted: 1/4/2009 12:23:30 PM | But if they see us at are worst, and still want to meet...then it must be love.
Or we could remove our photos and just go on with showing off our charming personalities.
